1) Conor McGregor Is More Than Just Talk

Many fans criticized the UFC for booking Conor McGregor against Eddie Alvarez for the lightweight title given the fact that the Irishman has yet to defend the 145-pound title he won last December. Many have also criticized the “Notorious” one, claiming that he talked his way into another big fight.

When the cage door closed, however, McGregor proved that he was more than just talk.

After dropping “The Underground King” multiple times in the opening round, McGregor finished the job in the second with a brutal combination. It was a dominant performance from McGregor and he made history in the process, becoming the first man in promotional history to hold two titles at one time.

Now we can only fathom at what his next move may be.

We are now just days away from the landmark UFC 205 event, as the card is set for this Saturday night (Nov. 12, 2016) live on pay-per-view (PPV) from the famed Madison Square Garden in New York City, New York.

The UFC has stacked the deck from top to bottom with this card, and it’s safe to say that it will be a special night for sure. In fact, it has been billed as the biggest card in promotional history.

Let’s take a look at five reasons why it just might be:

UFC New York

The UFC’s New York City Debut

To start things off, UFC 205 will mark the UFC’s inaugural show at Madison Square Garden, an arena that the promotion has attempted to hold an event at for years. With the sport finally being legalized in the Empire State last year, the UFC will finally get to take the sport of mixed martial arts to the one of the most infamous arenas in the history of combat sports, and because of that, the card has an added pop to it.

The UFC has promised fight fans for years that once it was able to enter New York, a blockbuster show would soon follow, and it looks as if the promotion has owned up to it’s promise with one of the greatest cards of all-time.

Tyron Woodley: My Last Loss Was My Last Loss

Reigning UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley will look to make the first defense of his 170-pound title in the co-main event of this weekend’s (Nov. 12, 2016) UFC 205, but many feel as if he’ll have a tough test in front of him, as he’s set to take on the surging Stephen “Wonderboy” Thompson, a

Reigning UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley will look to make the first defense of his 170-pound title in the co-main event of this weekend’s (Nov. 12, 2016) UFC 205, but many feel as if he’ll have a tough test in front of him, as he’s set to take on the surging Stephen “Wonderboy” Thompson, a man who was an incredible seven straight fights.

While many feel as if Thompson has the tools necessary to dethrone “The Chosen One”, Woodley doesn’t plan on surrendering his strap any time soon:

“It’s my time,” Woodley told MMAJunkie at today’s UFC 205 open workouts. “I’m not losing to anybody. My last loss was my last loss.”

Despite coming off of a brutal first round knockout of Robbie Lawler last July, Woodley has been deemed the underdog against Thompson, although he isn’t bothered by that, as it actually adds ‘fuel’ to his ‘fire’:

“They like to fuel my fire,” Woodley said of the oddsmakers. “I’ve been the underdog my last five fights and I’ve won them. … I think (my fight is) just pure domination, pure violence. I plan on annihilating everyone in this division and I’m going to prove everyone wrong.”

Do you expect Woodley to retain his title on Saturday at the famed Madison Square Garden in New York, or will “Wonderboy” walk away as the new undisputed champion?

Anything can happen in a mixed martial arts fight and especially in a title fight, as we’ve seen multiple UFC titles change hands over the last year. With less than two months remaining in the calendar year, the UFC is set to put on a slew of not only exciting, but competitive title fights, as well as some massive events.

Let’s take a look at six UFC titles that could potentially change hands before the year’s end:

Ronda Rouseyn

Women’s Bantamweight

Newly crowned UFC women’s bantamweight champion Amanda Nunes is gearing up to defend her title for the very first time when she takes on former longtime champion Ronda Rousey, a female many consider to be the best 135-pound female fighter of all-time, in the main event of Dec. 30’s UFC 207.

By the time she enters the cage, The “Rowdy” one will have spent 13 months on the sidelines, as she hasn’t competed since being brutally knocked out by Holly Holm last November. Rousey was picked apart by Holm’s superior striking and she didn’t deal with the loss well, ultimately staying out of the limelight for the majority year. With that being said, it’s difficult to tell what form of Rousey will show up and what improvements she may have made.

Nunes is no slouch and she has proven to be a vicious well-rounded fighter, but if Rousey shows up in vintage form, we could see the 135-pound title change hands.

We are now just weeks away from the historic UFC 205, as the blockbuster event, which is being billed as the best in promotion history, is set to go down on Nov. 12 from the famed Madison Square Garden in New York. The event will mark the promotion’s first trip to the state since the sport was legalized there last year.

Headlining the show will be a lightweight title clash between reigning champion Eddie Alvarez and 145-pound champion Conor McGregor. McGregor will look to make history, as he hopes to become the first fighter in company history to hold two titles at one time.

The card features two more title fights, as welterweight champion Tyron Woodley meets Stephen Thompson, and women’s strawweight champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk meets Karolina Kowalkiewicz.

Brazilian jiu-jitsu guru and No. 3-ranked UFC welterweight contender Demian Maia is likely deserving of a title shot. He’s won a super impressive six straight and is coming off of a dominant first round submission victory over No. 4-ranked former interim titleholder Carlos Condit. Despite his recent body of work, Maia will have to wait for his shot, as the 170-pound title is set to be defended at November 12’s UFC 205 from New York when champion Tyron Woodley battles Stephen Thompson.

As far as that fight goes, Maia feels as if Woodley has the power to retain his title, although the Brazilian ultimately sees “Wonderboy” getting the job done:

“The fight is a little more for ‘Wonderboy,’” Maia said during a recent Q&A session in England. “I think he probably will be able to control the way Rory (MacDonald) did with Woodley. Like movement and control the distance, but Woodley is always dangerous with the big right hand. If he hits him with the right hand, it will be a problem.

“If not, I think ‘Wonderboy’ will win by points or TKO, something like that.”

Maia, hopeful that he’ll receive a crack at the winner of UFC 205’s co-main event bout, also spoke on how he’d matchup with Thompson, one of the sport’s very best strikers:

“He’s an unorthodox striker and I’m an unorthodox grappler. Let’s see. I believe in jiu-jitsu, I believe in my style. I believe I’m going to win if I fight him,” Maia said about Thompson.

“Every fighter that I’ve fought in the UFC in the welterweight (division), they didn’t want to go to the ground with me, and I was able to put all my opponents to the ground. I was able to take all the guys down. Everybody trains wrestling so I’m pretty confident in my takedowns. I know everybody’s going to try to avoid (that) but even the fights that I lost in this division, I took everybody down. So it’s not going to be different.”

Who do you see walking away with welterweight gold next month, and could you see Maia eventually reaching the top of the mountain?
