Colby Covington Reacts To Controversial Exchange With Michael Bisping

As expected, Colby Colby Covington had some choice words aimed at Michael Bisping:

In a little over a week since June 9’s UFC 225 from Chicago, one of the most hotly-debated topics to arise was newly-crowned interim champion Colby Covington’s on-air back-and-forth with former middleweight champ Michael Bisping.

The hotly-discussed scene where Bisping was put off by Covington’s over-the-top style was one of the most dramatic moments of a card that stacked on paper but supposedly brought little heat at the box office. Indeed Bisping drew a fair amount of criticism from several in the MMA universe, namely his FOX Sports 1 co-worker Jon Anik.

And it was also hardly a surprise to hear someone snap at Covington after he’s called out the majority of anyone involved in mixed martial arts during his run to the placeholder title over the last nine months. With Covington ironically taking over as MMA’s most brazen trash talker after Bisping occupied a top spot on that list for many years before retiring, he won’t stop building his brand heading into his upcoming title unification fight with Tyron Woodley.

On a recent episode of The MMA Hour, “Chaos” effused the predictable insult he used against ‘The Count’ during their original rivalry, making fun of his eye and mentioning Dan Henderson’s historic knockout of the brash British legend:

“He’s an unprofessional little one-eyed twerp,” Covington said. “Every time the UFC brings me out, I’m always professional, I’m always on time. I make weight. There’s never any issues with Colby “Chaos” Covington. I always do the right things. What he did on Saturday night was a complete joke. That was my time and my moment and he was trying to steal my spotlight. He knew the light was so bright — and usually he can’t see out of that one eye. But my spotlight was so bright, he just couldn’t help but try and jump in.

“It’s crazy, he forgot what happened from American forefather Dan Henderson. You would think he got humbled from the last time he messed around with the red, white and blue. I’ll come across the pond and break that little, one-eyed nerd’s face.”

More of the same from Covington, whose promotion may not be working as much as you may think with his social media following not yet possessing equal statistics to the sheer number of headlines he’s emblazoned as of late.

He won’t stop doing what got him here, however. Covington claimed he wasn’t like any other fighter, and wouldn’t complain like his budding archnemesis Woodley, who claims he’s subject to racism but is actually disliked because his fights are boring:

“I’m not like any other fighter,” Covington said. “I don’t ever complain, man. I just take things the way they are. I’m not like TyQuil Woodley where he complains about the fans, like ‘Oh, they’re racist, because they don’t like me. Oh, they’re racist, they don’t want to watch me fight.’ No, you’re just boring, no one wants to watch the human form of NyQuil.”

Back to “The Count,” Covington closed this verbal battle with the British vet by suggesting he wouldn’t be moving along with the promotion when they shift to ESPN:

“You want to take shots at me from the Fox Sports desk, there’s a reason that they’re moving over to ESPN,” Covington said. … “He ain’t going over there.”

Thre’s not yet a date for Covington’s anticipated grudge match with “The Chosen One” yet, but it’s already become personal and should only get more controversial as “Chaos” trashes the champ every time he opens his mouth.

But Woodley isn’t the only target, and Covington’s list of victims is covering more and more territory with each passing day. Is it growing old for you, or do you still care enough to pay to hopefully see him lose?

Tyron Woodley Claims Colby Covington’s Sister ‘Tried To Slide Into His DMs’

Tyron Woodley is already making it personal with Colby Covington:

One week after Colby Covington won the interim welterweight title with a one-sided unanimous decision over Rafael dos Anjos at UFC 225, his budding rivalry with champion Tyron Woodley is becoming personal.

Covington’s sister Candace recently sent a warning message to Woodley following “Chaos’” impressive win, declaring that they were “coming” for the champ in a perceived title unification bout that will happen once “The Chosen One” finally returns from shoulder surgery after his last bout against Demian Maia in 2017.

Woodley apparently isn’t taking the threat lying down, however, posting on social media that Covington’s sister supposedly tried to ‘slide into his DMs but was rebuffed,’ something he claimed to have proof of:

Woodley vs. Covington doesn’t have an official date yet but should be one of the most trash talk-filled lead-ups of 2018 when it does become official.

The two top-ranked fighters have a lengthy history dting back to their time spent training at American Top Team (ATT), sessions which both fighters predictably offer significantly different recounts of.

‘The Chosen One’ claims he wants to end Covington’s career and get banned from the UFC, quite the over-the-top statement from a champion who talks a decent amount of trash but almost always falls short of making it personal with his opponents.

As you can see, this rivalry is quite different.

Tyron Woodley Details Sparring Session With “Buffoon” Colby Covington

This would’ve been an interesting session to witness.

UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley claims he dominated interim 170-pound title holder Colby Covington in the gym, and he’s willing to bring forth witnesses to testify.

The Chosen One recently joined The MMA Hour to discuss the ongoing beef between he and his fellow American Top Team (ATT) member. After capturing the interim welterweight strap at UFC 225, Covington is virtually guaranteed a fight with Woodley next.

Covington has claimed that he and Woodley were initially supposed to spar for five rounds at ATT, but Woodley stopped the session prematurely after two rounds. Chaos claims that he made the welterweight champion “quit.”

Now, Woodley has told his version of the events, and they go a lot differently than how Covington had described them (quotes via MMA Fighting):

“I talked to (coach) Din (Thomas), I said, ‘Din, you know what? I’m going to take him down, and watch how he reacts.’ And I tortured him for the whole practice,” Woodley said. “He ran off the mat basically crying, storming off, and I have people who are willing to come forth and testify to the training camp.

“Tell me one person that’s going to testify that Colby whooped my ass in practice. Tell me one person that’s going to lie under oath and let God above hear them say he beat me in anything. He ain’t ever beat me at thumb wrestling. Not only has he never taken me down, he’s never won a millisecond of a round,” Woodley added.

“I can’t even imagine when he’s won an exchange of combinations. He ran from me the entire training camp. He went home early, saying that his toe was hurting. And when it was time to really wrestle, he had my striking partner … in there with a broken wrist wrestling me, while Colby was sitting in the weight room acting like he didn’t know what was going on.

“So the fact that he would even bring that up, I’m going to whoop his ass so bad. I’ve never wanted to hurt somebody in my life. I’ve never wanted to beat somebody up so bad.”

Furthermore, Woodley claims to have text messages between he and Covington that he threatens to leak out. After all the trash talk Covington spoke about Woodley, he tried to tell the welterweight champ he’s simply trying to hype a fight so they can both make big money when it’s all said and done:

“One thing that Colby is really underestimating, that I will leak these text messages of him,” Woodley said. “I’m his big brother, and I will always be his big brother. He was brought into training camp to help me train for Rory MacDonald, and I’ve never met a lazier piece of sh*t than Colby Covington, a more horrible human being than Colby Covington.

“When it was time to wrestle, ask him how many takedowns he actually scored on me. Zero. Ask him why he turned blue like a f*cking blueberry when I was choking him out and he refused to tap. So, he is an asshole training partner, he’s a horrible human being, nothing that he says is factual, and I told him.

“I called him and I said, ‘Hey, I know you feel like you’ve got to do this, this is the path that Conor McGregor made and you think this is what you’ve got to do, but you’re really making yourself look bad.’  I said, ‘I gave you your one weekend on FOX when I was on-air and that’s all. So you can say whatever you want, but I’m not going to respond to it.’

“He said, ‘Ah man, I’m just trying to make money for both of us, man. You know, we’ll both eat at the end of the day. Light at the tunnel.’ So when somebody’s doing a good [job promoting themselves], like with Conor (McGregor) or Chael (Sonnen), I hate to unveil them.

“But when you have [an employee] of American Top Team scripting and writing your stuff, and when 99 percent of your social media is my face, you need to check your man visa because you done lost all points.”

Colby Covington vs. Tyron Woodley Early Betting Odds Released

The early betting odds for the upcoming fight between Tyron Woodley and Colby Covington have been released.

The early betting odds for the upcoming fight between UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley and interim champ Colby Covington have been released.

Covington earned the interim welterweight title after being able to score a decision win over former UFC lightweight champion Rafael dos Anjos in the co-main event of the main card for UFC 225 pay-per-view event at the United Center in Chicago, Illinois.

Woodley suffered a partial labrum tear early in his last title defense over top contender Demian Maia, which he won by decision. Woodley has been a fighting champion as he has defended it twice in 2017 with winning decisions over Stephen Thompson and Maia.

This tied with three other fighters for the most active 2017 schedule by a UFC champion.

Woodley has gone on record in the past by teasing a return to the Octagon under the UFC banner in August and even went as far as stating that he plans on returning at the UFC 227 pay-per-view event.

However, that card already has two title fights booked – TJ Dillashaw defending the bantamweight title against Cody Garbrandt in a rematch and UFC flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson defending the flyweight title against Henry Cejudo in a second fight.

Thus, this title fight is not likely to go down at UFC 227. This leaves the UFC 228 event on September 8, UFC 229 on October 6, 2018 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada and UFC 230 on November 3 in New York City at Madison Square Garden.

The betting experts at Bovada.lv has released the odds for the upcoming welterweight title fight between Woodley and Covington.

Woodley is currently a -140 favorite with Covington as a +110 underdog.

For those who plan on betting on this fight, it means that you’d have to bet $140 to win $100 if you’re picking Woodley to win while you would have to put $100 down on Covington to get $110 back.
