Colby Covington has his sights set on two big names, and he plans on retiring them.

UFC President Dana White has gone on record by stating that former UFC lightweight champion Rafael dos Anjos is the clear front-runner to challenge current UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley next.

However, that has not stopped Covington from hovering over this situation and seeing how he could leapfrog dos Anjos in line for a title shot.

Covington went on record in a recent interview that dos Anjos and Woodley are the only two names on his current list of fights to make.

He added that if he is given the chance to fight them, he would retire these fighters when he finally gets his hands on them.

“The list is really only two,” Covington told ESPN’s Five Rounds podcast (via ESPN). “That’s what I’ve earned in my career. There are only two fights to make for #NerdBash2018, these nerds I’m going to bash and retire, and that’s RDA and T-Woodley. Those storylines are already written,” he said.

Make no mistake about it, Woodley is still the top pick for Covington as he wants the title.

However, this has been that has unsuccessfully for quite some time now.  With RDA next line, Colby may have to wait just a little bit longer.

“Woodley is not a draw. He needs help selling a fight,” Covington said. “I’m his money fight. I’m the guy. If he fights me, there are going to be a massive amount of fans who want to see him knock me out. He can be a hero that way, and that’s what he wants to be. He’s trying to be a hero, but really he’s just a fake and a fraud.”

“I completely broke him,” Covington said. “I will take his soul in that Octagon and he will never fight again, mark my words. I guarantee it. You heard it here first. I completely dominated and owned him and he knows that. That’s why he’s avoided me,” concluded Covington.

Controversial welterweight Colby Covington has made quite the name for himself both inside and outside of the cage last year, and this year appears to be no different.

Covington has his sights set on welterweight champion Tyron Woodley, and as usual, he won’t hold back while doing so.

The welterweight contender called Woodley out for ‘race-baiting’ and vows to be the champion the people want (via Submission Radio):

“He let’s things get to his emotions. He’s literally a prima donna. That’s the perfect explanation for Tyron Woodley. He tries to racebait. The people that don’t like him and don’t wanna watch him for or think he’s boring, ‘Oh, they’re racist’. That’s his only claim now.

“So, he’s just trapped, he’s in a corner and he’s defeated before anything. The fans have completely gotten in his head and everybody’s under his skin. He doesn’t know how to handle the position he’s in now, but it’s okay, I’m gonna take over his position as welterweight champ and you will see the division be made great again.”

Covington (13-1) most recently defeated Demian Maia in October and has kept his name in the press ever since. Meanwhile, Woodley himself beat Maia at UFC 214 and is due for a title defense after recovering from shoulder surgery for the torn labrum he suffered in the fight.

However, Covington will have to navigate his way around fellow contenders Rafael Dos Anjos, Santiago Ponzinibbio, and Darren Till in order to get a fight with the champion, and he may just have to face off with surging contender Kamaru Usman before he fights any of them.

Who would you like to see Woodley defend his belt against next? Should Covington be the next fighter in line for a shot?

It didn’t take long for UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley’s next title challenger to start hyping their upcoming fight.

UFC President Dana White confirmed to the media on Sunday night after UFC St. Louis concluded that former UFC lightweight champion Rafael Dos Anjos would be the next fighter in line for the champion.

It should be noted that Woodley is coming off a recent shoulder surgery and as of this writing, there’s no word yet on the date and location for this impending title showdown.

Despite all of that, it didn’t stop RDA from start trashing talk via the power of social media to the champion.

Dos Anjos believes Woodley is avoiding top contenders in favor of money fights. You can see their exchange here:

“First @TWooodley was trying a super fight against @bisping, did not happen then he tried @GeorgesStPierre and then Diaz and now Connor. You feeling your time is up and you are getting desperate for a big fight #RDA #AndNew.”

Woodley fired back by responding with this:

“Brother just stop?????! Crap talking ain’t your thing. Chill I’ll get to you when I get a chance. @RdosAnjosMMA @ufc.”

RDA has reinvented himself since moving up to welterweight. He made the move after losing to current interim lightweight champ Tony Ferguson. Since then, RDA picked up three wins with victories over Tarec Saffiedine, Neil Magny, and Robbie Lawler.

On the flip side, Woodley has successfully defended his title Stephen ‘Wonderboy’ Thompson and Demian Maia. The belief is that he will return to action in the first quarter of this year.

We now know who will challenge Tyron Woodley for the UFC welterweight title next.

UFC President Dana White made it clear during the UFC St. Louis post-show on FOX Sports 1 that former UFC lightweight champion Rafael dos Anjos would be the next title challenger.

Woodley, who is coming off a recent shoulder surgery, has stated pubicly that he doesn’t think there are any clear contenders in the division right now. However, White disagrees and plans on making this fight happen.

“As soon as he’s healthy, obviously, RDA is the fight to make, especially the way he looked in the Robbie Lawler fight,” said White (transcript courtesy of MMA Junkie). “We’re just waiting for Tyron to get healthy.”

Despite this announcement by White, Woodley still has his sights set on former middleweight and welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre.

Keep in mind that this fight is not likely to happen anytime soon due to GSP vacating the middleweight title shortly after he won it from Michael Bisping back in November at UFC 217 and him dealing with health issues.

Woodley continued to state that GSP is the opponent he wants and that he will tell fighters such as RDA, Colby Covington, and Kamaru Usman to wait a little longer.

“I don’t really see a fight that makes sense for me right now,” Woodley told MMAjunkie backstage at the Scottrade Center in St. Louis, which hosted the FS1-televised event on Sunday.

“There’s not any clear No. 1 guys. Some guys say RDA. We’ve got a guy who’s bumping his gums; I won’t even give (Covington’s) name any attention. I think the deck needs to be shuffled a little bit more, and maybe a fight that’s more substantial for my career and my legacy will present itself.

“I’m not going to say (dos Anjos and Covington) need to fight. Fall back, take a seat. I’m not going anywhere. I’m here for a while. I’m not on the cusp of giving this up. One by one, everybody will get their chance to see what it’s all about. But I really want to fight Georges St-Pierre.”

“If he’s still fighting, he needs to come and see me,” Woodley said.
