UFC Interim Heavyweight Champion Ciryl Gane is hoping to follow in the footsteps of WBC and The Ring Heavyweight Champion Tyson Fury when he meets Francis Ngannou at UFC 270.

As with Gane’s next Octagon appearance, Fury was matched up with a powerhouse in his last outing. For the third time, he faced Deontay Wilder inside the ring. The pair first collided inside Los Angeles’ Staples Center in 2018. After surviving a late knockdown, many expected “The Gypsy King” to have his hand raised. Instead, the fight was controversially ruled a split-decision draw.

The two heavyweight stars ran it back last February at the MGM Grand Garden Arena. In the rematch, Fury dominated throughout and became champion via a seventh-round TKO. The Englishman had his sights set on a blockbuster clash with his compatriot Anthony Joshua this year. However, Wilder successfully put a stop to those plans by forcing a contractually obliged trilogy with Fury.

Last weekend, the rivals met for the third time. They closed their feud with one of the best heavyweight boxing matches in recent memory. Despite eating the full force of Wilder’s power, and being knocked down more than once in the fourth round, Fury recovered and was on top for the remainder of the contest. He finished “The Bronze Bomber” with a brutal KO in the 11th frame.

In the aftermath of the fight, elite UFC heavyweight Gane gave his take on the incredible Las Vegas showdown combat sports fans were treated to on Saturday. During an appearance on Submission Radio, “Bon Gamin” praised both men, but suggested he wasn’t surprised to see Fury’s hand raised given his immense fight IQ.

“It was really crazy. It was really a big fight, more than the first one and the second one. And it was really tight. It was really tight at the beginning. But for me, when you have a fight IQ and this kind of technical skill from Tyson Fury, for me it’s really normal [to see] him have his hand up.”

Discussing how Fury dealt with Wilder’s famed power, which even “The Gypsy King” acknowledged was harder than he could ever strike, Gane asserted that smart, fast, and technical fighters can often find the path to victory against the most brutal hitters. The interim champ is hoping to use Fury’s latest success as an example as he prepares to face the most powerful puncher in the UFC.

“Sometimes… I hope it’s going to be the same for me with Francis, but sometimes when the guy in front of you is really quick and are really smart, every time they have the solution [to their opponent’s power]. I hope it’s going to be the same for me and I think that helped Gypsy for real… I hope I’m gonna manage [the fight] very well like Tyson Fury, I hope.”

Gane and Ngannou are set to collide in a unification bout at UFC 270. In what will be the opening pay-per-view of 2022, the promotion will be hoping to begin the year with some heavyweight fireworks.

Do you think Ciryl Gane has what it takes to dethrone Francis Ngannou at UFC 270?

Everyone has their turn-ons, and for Sean O’Malley, that is apparently watching epic heavyweight boxing fights.

Like the rest of us, O’Malley was unbelievably impressed by the all-out war put on by Deontay Wilder and Tyson Fury in their trilogy fight. The two heavyweight champions were both dropped multiple times in the fight, with each man getting hurt. In the end, Fury was able to finish the fight in the 11th round with a brutal knockout after overwhelming Wilder with a barrage of punches over the course of the contest.

As later revealed by O’Malley, it seems that “Suga” was a little happier than most people at how the fight went. Speaking in a recent episode of his podcast, he said that he liked it so much that he felt the need to pleasure himself through every round, just because of how intense the action was.

One of the sickest fights, probably the sickest boxing fight I’ve seen. I was J-ing off every round,” O’Malley said (h/t MiddleEasy).

“(Wilder) is a gangster, dude. That’s gangster. To be knocked down, then knock down Fury, and then get knocked down seven more times before the fight’s over. Just get up every time, scary.”

This was certainly an odd admission from Sean O’Malley, although it is somewhat relatable given the circumstances of what transpired. After all, many people were considering Tyson Fury vs Deontay Wilder 3 was one of the best fights of the year and one of the greatest heavyweight fights of all time.

With the momentum swings and nonstop action from start to finish, this truly was one of the most exciting boxing matches to take place in a long time. That said, it is probably a bit easier for someone to enjoy watching the fight if they are doing so while keeping their pants on.

Daniel Cormier Says Fury Benefited From ‘Crazy Slow’ Count After Wilder Knocked Him Down

Daniel Cormier voiced his displeasure after seeing what he believed to be Tyson Fury receiving a slow count after being knocked down by Deontay Wilder in their epic trilogy fight at the T-Mobile Arena on Saturday evening.

‘The Bronze Bomber’ was dropped inside three rounds but rallied back in the fourth frame, landing two monstrous punches to secure knockdowns of his own that could’ve ended the fight in the opinion of Cormier if referee Russell Mora wasn’t “crazy slow” with his 10-count.

“I agree with @andreward the count was crazy slow! He isn’t supposed to stop counting to tell deontay to go to his corner. #FuryvsWilderIII,” Cormier wrote on social media.

The former dual-weight UFC champion seems to be lacking when it comes to his knowledge of boxing rules. According to Boxing guidelines, the referee should stop the count if a fighter moves away from his neutral corner.

After scoring his first knockdown, Wilder was told to go to a neutral corner but instead went to his own, something that could’ve and should’ve delayed the count.

On the second knockdown, the referee stopped his count at five to order Wilder to a neutral corner. The process took a couple of seconds before he continued his count at six (as he should), something that upset Cormier and other people supporting Wilder.

Fury got up before the count of eight and went on to dominate the fight. ‘The Gypsy King’ put a beating on Wilder before eventually stopping the former WBC heavyweight champion in the 11th round to earn his second successive win over the American. The pair also fought to a draw in 2018, although many believe Wilder was the beneficiary of wacky scorecards in that fight.

Do you agree with Daniel Cormier? Did Tyson Fury benefit from a “crazy slow” count?

Conor McGregor was certainly impressed with what he saw.

Tyson Fury defeated Deontay Wilder in an epic trilogy fight to defend his WBC heavyweight title last night in Las Vegas. The contest featured five knockdowns with plenty of action throughout.

However, it was Fury who came out on top as his third knockdown of the night downed Wilder for good in the 11th round.

Mainstream audiences, casuals and of course, the combat sports world were all watching and reacting. That included McGregor who gave his thoughts on Sunday.

“Great fight that. Both warriors, both winners. Hard to not be impressed with Deontay there. Against the much larger man and almost got it done. Great fight. 40lb’s in weight difference is A LOT. Fair play both men there, very enjoyable fights they have had together. Respect.”

McGregor also managed to take a shot at Dustin Poirier in the process as he referenced what happened in his own trilogy with “The Diamond” in July.

“Their skill levels are unique but very close. A great heavyweight trilogy that was. I love when it gets set for certain and both have an honorable showing. Not the fam in the ring fake celebrating after a freak injury etc etc you know the gig, God bless the real in this world.”

“Congrats Tyson and Paris. Me and Dee are so happy for you and the kids. Congrats Deontay and Telli also. Was great meeting you guys recently. A real proud showing that was, and could have went either way. Amazing! Happy Sunday now today with the cheddar and the memory’s God bless”

Tyson Fury went raving after he scored an 11th round knockout win over Deontay Wilder at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas last night.

‘The Gypsy King’ squared off against Wilder for the third and last (hopefully) time on Saturday evening ‘The Bronze Bomber’ started the fight well with a flurry of jabs to the body of his opponent in round one of their trilogy bout. The tables quickly turned though and by round three Fury had dropped Wilder and seemed to be on his way to another routine victory.

Wilder rallied in round four, scoring two heavy knockdowns of his own. The WBC heavyweight champion showed exactly why he is considered the best when he rose from the floor and worked his way back into the fight.

As the rounds progressed the result looked inevitable in Fury’s favour. Only a true warrior’s heart allowed Wilder to fight on until round 11 before he was brutally knocked unconscious by the British banger.

Fury celebrated in the ring with a sing-song as he so often does. This time, he sang “Walking in Vegas” to conclude his post-fight interview.

Apparently, the celebrations carried on well into the night. Paris Fury posted a video to her Instagram story that showed her husband raving the night away alongside Joseph Parker – check it out.
