Tyson Fury and Deontay Wilder are likely to complete their trilogy of fights in October, according to promoter Bob Arum.

‘The Gypsy King’ emphatically stopped the American in seven rounds last month. Previously he was robbed on the judges’ cards as they had scored the first fight a draw in 2018.

The Top Rank boss told ESPN the original date of July 18 was no longer on the cards due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, he said.

“Clearly not. We don’t even know if the MGM will even be open by then. You could not guarantee the fighters that the event would take place on that date. We couldn’t convince them or ourselves.

“Where were they going to train for it? It just made no sense. You just have to take a step back. How are you going to sell tickets? It’s absolutely ridiculous to say the fight is on when the Brits can’t even get there.

“So everybody has to take a step back. Boxing is not isolated. It’s part of what’s happening in the world,” Arum said. “So possibly the fight will be in early October.”

Eddie Hearn, the promoter of heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua has been frustrated by this latest news. He now says his fighter could forgo an IBF defence against Kubrat Pulev and wait for the winner of the trilogy.

“Well, I think, all of a sudden, does the Joshua-Fury fight start taking priority, maybe over a Pulev fight, if the Pulev fight extends beyond the summer? There’s so much that could happen right now.

“I mean anything is possible, but contractually Deontay Wilder is going to want his fight next, whether that’s in July or whether there’s a force majeure that takes that to October, November wherever.”

Should Tyson Fury vs. Deontay Wilder III be postponed?

Heavyweight boxing champion Tyson Fury has told the people of Britain to remain indoors amid the global coronavirus pandemic.

The United Kingdom has had a slower reaction than most to the virus but has now joined the rest of the world by putting more stricter measures in place.

Yesterday evening Prime minister Boris Johnson announced the British people are to stay indoors and will only be allowed to go outside for a very few essential things. People may leave home to exercise once a day, to travel to and from work, shop for essential items, and to fulfil any medical or care needs.

‘The Gypsy King’ has taken the British leader’s strict guidelines very seriously and has vowed to stay indoors for the foreseeable future. Fury has also urged his fellow Brits to do the same to help prevent the spread of COVID-19. In a video statement on social media, the WBC champion said.

“I’d just like to say. I hope everybody is keeping well and staying safe and staying indoors and not going out spreading the virus. After listening to what the Prime minister said, I’ve took it deadly serious, as should you. Let’s fight this virus together as a nation, as a family, as a team, and do the best we can to help others not get the virus. Stay indoors! It’s very, very important to listen to Boris (Johnson) – stay indoors! I’ve had a person bring the gym over to me today. I’ve got a running machine here, weights, a few free weights. I’m going to keep fit, and I’m going to post daily videos of myself training to keep you going, keep me going. Without the gym, I’m finished. God bless. Stay safe. Stay indoors.”

Will you be taking the advice of Tyson Fury and staying indoors?

New, previously unseen footage of Tyson Fury preparing to face Deontay Wilder for a second time has been released.

‘The Gypsy King’ dethroned the American power puncher in Las Vegas last month. Fury dominated the WBC champion over seven rounds, dropping his opponent twice before Wilder’s corner mercifully threw in the towel.

Previously the fighter had banned British sports network BT Sport from broadcasting any of his training. This is because he was working on a new, more aggressive style which no-one had previously seen from him.

The Englishman is primarily known as a master boxer, employing the hit and don’t get hit tactic to outpoint his opponents. This is what we saw from him during his first fight with Wilder. However, the judges didn’t give Fury the decision many believe he had earned, and it is that fact which saw him take bold steps to change his style.

In the build-up to the rematch, Fury switched trainers from Ben Davison to Sugar Hill, with the end goal of scoring a knockout win. Speaking pre-fight about what we could expect in the eagerly anticipated rematch, he said.

“I’m not looking for herky-jerky. I want him to meet me dead centre in the ring and have a slugfest. I didn’t come here again to get a bad decision. I know I won’t get a decision in the United States, that’s clear. That’s why I hired Sugar Hill. If I didn’t want a knockout, I wouldn’t hire the Kronk trainer who specialises on sitting on your punches, landing the right hand.”

Now he has been proven correct. It’s crazy to see this six-minute clip of coach and fighter working the pads, knowing what is to come. Check out the video below

Former undisputed champion at cruiserweight Oleksandr Usyk is planning to repeat his achievements at heavyweight.

The 33-year-old Ukrainian has told Sky Sports he plans to beat British heavyweights Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury to capture all the belts.

“I work hard on it,” said Usyk, when asked about becoming undisputed at heavyweight. However, when asked who he would prefer to fight, the talented southpaw was unsurprisingly nonchalant. “I want to fight both.”, he said.

Both Joshua and Fury have fights booked in against Kubrat Pulev and Deontay Wilder, respectively. Usyk isn’t really interested in those, though. He just wants the belts. “The last thing I think about is who will fight who. No predictions,”

Injury has hampered Usyk’s time at heavyweight. So far, he has fought just once, beating Chazz Witherspoon in October 2019.

“I need to stay active. I need to box,” he said. “If your vocation is passive, it’s not good. If you stay active, it’s very good. This is my active vocation.”

Next, he’ll face Dereck Chisora on May 23 – Coronavirus permitting. It’s a sizeable step up against a real dangerous heavyweight. However, his manager Egis Klimas is confident of handling ‘Del Boy’ before moving on to bigger things, he said.

“Right now, we have to win [against Chisora], then after the mandatory fight for the WBO has to happen.

“I believe Anthony also wants this fight. Good fighters want to fight good fighters. Anthony sees a good challenge in Oleksandr and wants to go there. Everybody says Oleksandr will give Anthony problems, but Anthony believes the opposite, so he wants to show that he is stronger.

“In the UK would make sense – it wouldn’t make sense to go to the States with one boxer from the UK and one from Ukraine. The UK fans know Usyk.”

Tyson Fury could face an eight-year ban from boxing, which would essentially bring an end to his career in the sport.

‘The Gypsy King’ and his cousin Hughie Fury received two-year backdated bans for testing positive for the steroid nandrolone in 2015.

At the time, the two heavyweight fighters blamed the results on consuming uncastrated wild boar meat. A lengthy and costly investigation followed, costing United Kingdom Anti-Doping (UKAD) £600,000 – nearly bankrupting the organization.

Since returning to boxing in 2018 Fury has looked better than ever. Last time out, he captured the WBC heavyweight title beating long-reigning champion Deontay Wilder inside seven rounds to do so.

However, his joy has been short-lived amid fresh claims of drug cheating that could seriously jeopardize his future in boxing. According to the Mail on Sunday, Fury stands accused of bribing farmer Martin Carefoot to lie about providing the boxer wild boar meat. The Lancashire man claims he was offered £25,000 to say he was the source of the tainted meat, although claims he was never paid.

“I just went along with it, and they always dangled this carrot that I was going to get paid. When things got quite serious, they offered me a sum of money before it went to court in London and a sum of money after. I went along with them because, I suppose, in my own way, I was just helping them out.”

Since the report was released, UKAD has announced they will be investigating the claims made by the farmer if found guilty both Tyson and Hughie could face a ban as long as eight-years.

While the heavyweight champion has not commented on the latest allegations, his promoter Frank Warren has rubbished the claims of Mr. Carefoot, speaking to media he said.

“The farmer making these outrageous allegations sent me a letter last October, full of errors and basically telling me he had committed perjury by signing statements under oath and lying. “When I called him, he asked for money. I told him to clear off and get in contact with UKAD. He chose not to speak to UKAD but instead speak to a newspaper.” (Transcribed by Daily Mirror)
