While he might of missed the opportunity to potentially challenge for the light heavyweight title again, Lyoto Machida had no regrets in asking for a bigger paycheck prior to his potential rematch with Rashad Evans.

In an interview with Terra Esportes, via BloodyElbow.com, Machida explained his actions in asking for “Anderson Silva money” and was not apologetic, citing no reasons to feel guilty.

“I ask forgiveness for the misunderstanding, but not for what I’ve done, because I was not wrong,” Machida said.

“The Dragon”, who rebounded from a two-fight losing skid with a knockout win over Randy Couture at UFC 129, said he did not initially accept the bout and did not have a training camp set up in order to properly prepare himself. In fact, Machida said he was only training to keep in shape.

Machida said he had negotiated compensation in case he lost because he felt there was more risk than reward to compete on such a short notice.

“I only asked for the type of money that would guarantee me tranquility for a certain time, because if I were to lose it would put me on the back of the line of candidates for the title,” he explained.

“Aside from also being potentially injured, Rashad (Evans) is not just ‘any’ type of fighter.”

Ultimately, Machida’s proposition was denied by the UFC and Tito Ortiz agreed to step in and face Evans at UFC 133

The idea of asking for more incentive makes sense on Machida’s part, but due to major time constraints, the UFC was forced to restructure and seek a replacement immediately.

The end result worked out for both parties and UFC president Dana White has since reaffirmed his stance on Machida and will not condemn the Brazilian for his camp’s actions.

It is a common occurrence to negotiate for more money prior to a bout, especially on short notice, but the way Machida’s management handled the situation must have rubbed White the wrong way.

Regardless, the UFC found a solution and there is more closure to this story.

Despite suffering a thumb injury during his bout against Tito Ortiz at UFC 133, Rashad Evans isn’t too concerned about it affecting him.

Evans returned after a 14-month layoff to defeat Ortiz in a dominant victory that earned him a shot at the UFC light-heavyweight title.

“[My thumb is] pretty good,” Evans said following the UFC-on-FOX press conference earlier this week. “I just got three pins into the thumb. The thumb is completely broken; it’s shattered.”

The injury came just moments into the fight when Evans was trying to finish Ortiz. Evans, however, underwent an operation to repair the damage and assured everyone he will begin training in the next few weeks.

“They put some pins in it to hold it together for a few weeks,” said Evans. “I have got like four more weeks of this, and then I am good to train again.”

Evans will now await the winner between Jon Jones and Quinton “Rampage” Jackson at UFC 135.

It’s been almost a week since UFC 133 went down in Philadelphia, PA, and there is still a buzz left by the fighters that has fans talking about their futures and possible matchups.

In this week’s edition of UFC Ultimate Insider, fans get a chance to go back and witness the event from all sides of the Octagon. The show was headlined by a light heavyweight bout between former champions Tito Ortiz and Rashad Evans. Evans won by technical knockout in the second round.

Featured fighters include Evans, Rory MacDonald, Constantinos Philippou and Vitor Belfort.

A week after the event, the UFC continues with UFC on Versus 5 on August 14. It features an anticipated main event with sluggers Chris Lytle and Dan Hardy.

In the video, Hardy gives his thoughts on the matchup, including his plans of how to be the first to stop “Lights Out,” who hasn’t been knocked out or submitted in a career of over 50 fights.

UFC Bantamweight Champion Dominick Cruz gives fans a look at what the Octagon Nation Tour is like from Los Angeles, CA. Tour dates are available, here.

Also, some of the fastest finishes in the UFC are showcased in a special “30 Seconds or Less” promo. Fights featured include Wanderlei Silva vs. Chris Leben, Rob Emerson vs. Manvel Gamburyan and Todd Duffee vs. Tim Hague.

UFC 133: What’s Next for Rory "The Waterboy" MacDonald?

Coming off of a win against Mike Pyle at UFC 133, where he employed vicious ground and pound after less than four minutes in the first round, there is a lot of talk about what is next for “The Waterboy.”

Since UFC 140 is taking place in Canada, that is most likely where his next fight will be scheduled. Some say give him Fitch, while others want him to go against the winner of Hardy/Lytle matchup. The 22-year-old shows some amazing ability to one day make it to the top, but first he needs to be put to the test.

Who could bring the fight to the 22-year-old?

According to ESPN, MacDonald stated his interest in having a rematch with Carlos Condit. However, Condit is fighting BJ Penn, so a rematch probably won’t happen any time soon. I say put MacDonald up against the winner of Lytle/Hardy.

A fight between MacDonald and either one of those two would definitely make for a good show.

Dana White’s UFC Live on Versus 5 Video Blog Day 1

(Video courtesy of YouTube/UFC)

Since he’s on his way to Wisconsin for the lead-up media appearances for Sunday night’s UFC Live on Versus 5: Hardy vs. Lytle event, Dana White’s first video blog for the show is more of a recap of UFC 133, which is just as well.

It’s interesting to see Dana’s non reaction to Vitor Belfort’s win over Yoshihiro Akiyama. He can clearly be heard telling Lorenzo Fertitta that the finishing blows by “The Phenom” were to the back of “Sexyama’s” head. Neither UFC executive showed little emotion when Belfort came over to their side of the Octagon to let them know he’s back and White later said in an interview that the former UFC light heavyweight champion would have to chew on his loss to Anderson Silva for a while before he gets another title shot.

Another pair of interesting moments came when Rory MacDonald finished Mike Pyle and White was too busy texting or on tweeting to notice, and when Dennis Hallman came out in his grape smugglers and a disgusted Dana said that the shorts should be illegal.

Dana seemed genuinely freaked out when Rashad emerged from the dressing room wearing a splint following his win over Tito Ortiz, but according to Evans, it’s just a dislocation.

Skippy Asks the Tough Questions at UFC 133

A couple of weeks before UFC 133 in Philadelphia, Dana White made an appearance on Philly’s Preston and Steve show on WMMR to promote the show. Preston and Steve, being the wacky morning radio show duo they are, invited local comic and YouTube star Ed Bassmaster down to meet the Baldfather as one of his many alter-egos. Dana obviously had no idea who this guy was, as he completely bought that Skippy was just your average TUF fan in khakis and comically thick glasses.

So what happens when you ask Dana why he frequently seems upset and angry?

Well, Dana was so amused that he decided to have Ed wander the locker rooms and hallways at the event, doing interviews and trying to put some moves on Chandella. Of course, what he really wanted to do was get Skippy in the same room with Lorenzo Fertitta and sit back and watch the big guy squirm.

Props to Dana, Lorenzo, Chandella, and the fighters for being patient with the funny guy.

But hey, if Dana likes comedians, why does he hate us so much? Hey Dana, call us; we’ll punk anybody you want. If all it takes to make Dana laugh is “make Lorenzo uncomfortable”, we should be able to get backstage access for a decade.

Props to MiddleEasy for the tip.
