Even when he isn’t competing in the biggest event in UFC history, Brock Lesnar is still involved in the biggest event in UFC history.

Immediately prior to Friday’s weigh-ins for UFC on Fox 1, Lesnar will join Alistair Overeem for a prefight press conference for UFC 141, which will take place in December.

Due to a second bout with diverticulitis, Lesnar has not competed inside the Octagon for more than one year. Nonetheless, a win against Overeem would propel the former champion into a title fight against the winner of this Saturday’s bout between Cain Velasquez and Junior dos Santos.

Recently brought into the UFC from Strikeforce, Overeem will be looking to display his world-class striking skills that have earned him multiple titles over recent years. However, against a wrestler of Lesnar’s size and ability, that will be easier said than done.

For the UFC, selling this fight will be a combination of introducing the fans to Overeem, the Strikeforce heavyweight champion, and convincing the fans that Lesnar is back, healthy, and ready to fight. This press conference will be the first big step on that front.

On December 30th, 2011 Brock Lesnar will make his return to the Octagon after being off for more than a year.

In his first fight back, Lesnar will take on UFC newcomer Alistair Overeem. While Overeem has yet to take part in a UFC bout, he is considered one of the most dangerous heavyweights in the world.

However, this is exactly what Lesnar wanted according to UFC President Dana White.

Lesnar asked for the toughest test we could find for him and there’s no doubt that Alistair Overeem fits the bill. He’s been a champion in other organizations and came to UFC to fight the best guys in the world.

White continued to address Lesnar and his return to the UFC when he stated,

He wants to show everyone that he’s the number one heavyweight in the sport. This fight is the perfect fight to close out 2011.

While Lesnar and Overeem will certainly be fighting for a win come December 30th, news recently broke that they’ll be fighting for much more.

White also announced that the winner of Lesnar vs. Overeem will be the heavyweight’s No. 1 contender and will move on to receive a title shot against the winner of Cain Velasquez and Junior Dos Santos at UFC on FOX.

UFC 141 will take place live on pay-per-view beginning at 7:00 p.m. PT and 10:00 p.m. ET.

Another busy week wrapped up in the MMA world with the UFC announcing plans for upcoming cards and the new year.

Middleweight kingpin Anderson Silva’s next opponent will be the man who nearly dethroned him at UFC 117, Chael Sonnen.

Although Carlos Condit will no longer be fighting for the welterweight title at UFC 143, the contender will take on former title-challenger Josh Koscheck at the February event.

In 2012, the UFC’s preliminary card bouts will no longer stream on Facebook and will instead be shown on the cable network Fuel TV.

Additionally, a former Strikeforce champ is suing his former management, as well as a Bellator champ returning to action.
