Rumor: Jon Jones vs. Dan Henderson Possible for UFC 145 Headliner

(Great, like we need another reason to hate this guy. IT’S RUDE TO POINT, JON.)

The March 24th UFC 145 card in Montreal still lacks a main event — but if the timing works out, a light-heavyweight superfight could take the headlining spot. As we already know, Jon Jones has decided to scrap his vacation and start fighting again ASAP. Here’s UFC president Dana White speaking on the subject to ESPN 1100:

[Jones] called up four days ago and said ‘okay, let’s go I’m done with vacation.’ He said he wanted to take all this time off and then they were calling me four days ago saying he wants to fight as soon as possible. He’s ready to go…What could end up happening is Dan Henderson fights Jon Jones first, and then it would be close to the time that Rashad (Evans) fights. Or we see how things go with Rashad and Rashad fights him first.”

Rashad Evans‘s UFC on FOX 2 headlining match against Phil Davis — which has already been promoted as a #1 contender bout — goes down on January 28th, which means that the winner probably wouldn’t be ready to challenge for the light-heavyweight title until April. If Jones insists on fighting sooner, a meeting with Hendo at UFC 145 in March seems like the most logical situation. Henderson has won his last four fights, including his Fight of the Year unanimous decision against Mauricio Rua at UFC 139, and his first-round TKO of Fedor Emelianenko in Strikeforce.

And since Rashad Evans is eternally cursed, here’s what we think will happen: Jon Jones fights Henderson at UFC 145 and beats him, but gets injured in the process, and once again, Evans loses the opportunity to face his nemesis for the title. As usual, Evans will publicly blast Jones for ducking him. To stay active, Evans will accept a fight against Shogun or a rematch with Lyoto Machida. He will lose, and get bumped down the ladder, Jon Fitch-style. Sound about right?

Win or Go Home, ‘TUF’ Edition: Mac Danzig vs. Efrain Escudero Booked for UFC 145

(“It kind of feels like my nose might be shoved into my brain. Oh God, is that bad? That’s bad, isn’t it.”)

The UFC confirmed yesterday that TUF 6 winner Mac Danzig and TUF 8 winner Efrain Escudero will meet in a lightweight bout at UFC 145 (March 24th, Montreal). Danzig has lost five of his last seven outings, most recently dropping a unanimous decision to Matt Wiman in a rematch of their controversial first fight. Meanwhile, Escudero just lost a decision to #1 Obama-fan Jacob Volkmann at UFC 141, coming in as a short-notice replacement for TJ Grant. It was Escudero’s first UFC appearance since getting booted from the promotion last September.

It goes without saying that contracts are on the line here. If Danzig loses, he might become the fifth Ultimate Fighter winner to be cut by the UFC, following Travis Lutter, Escudero (the first time), Kendall Grove, and Joe Stevenson. If Efrain Escudero loses, he might become the first Ultimate Fighter winner to be fired twice.

UFC 145 still lacks a main event; for more details on the supporting card, go here.

Efrian EscuderoTwo former Ultimate Fighter winners are set to clash at UFC 124 in Montreal on March 24.

Mac Danzig, who won Season Six of The Ultimate Fighter, and Efrain Escudero, who won Season Eight of the UFC’s reality show, are set to square off in a lightweight bout, the UFC announced on Thursday.

Danzig will be fighting for the first time since losing to Matt Wiman on Oct. 1. That loss was Danzig’s fifth in his last seven fights, and there was some talk that Danzig would be released from the promotion. But he’ll get at least one more shot to prove he belongs in the Octagon against Escudero, who’s also on thin ice with the UFC: Escudero was released by the UFC in 2010 before getting another chance at UFC 141, where he lost to Jacob Volkmann. The loser of Danzig-Escudero is probably done in the UFC.

The Danzig vs. Escudero fight is one of several the UFC announced on Thursday.

Others include:

— UFC 145 will also feature Matt Wiman vs. Mark Bocek in a lightweight fight.

Shane Roller will take on Michael Johnson as part of the UFC on Fox 2 undercard. Johnson had been slated to face Cody McKenzie, but McKenzie dropped out with an injury and Roller has taken his place.

— T.J. Dillashaw will return to the Octagon for the first time since losing to John Dodson at the Ultimate Fighter 14 Finale when he squares off with Walel Watson at the UFC on Fuel event on February 15. The same card will feature a featherweight fight between Jonathan Brookins and Vagner Rocha.

— Dustin Poirier has a new opponent for UFC 143 after both Erik Koch and Ricardo Lamas dropped out with injuries. Poirier will now face UFC newcomer Max Holloway.

— Jake Hecht will face T.J. Waldburger at UFC on FX 2 in Australia.

MacDonald is in the process of making his return to the Octagon: He’ll take on Che Mills on March 24th at UFC 145.

Over the course of his young career, MacDonald has often been referred to as the future of the welterweight division.

Fans can expect to see a better than ever MacDonald when he makes his long awaited return to UFC 145 in just a few short months.

The following slides display seven things to expect in Rory MacDonald’s return.

Let’s take a look.

Canadians Mark Hominick and Mark Bocek will play host to Eddie Yagin and Matt Wiman, respectively, at UFC 145 on March 24 at the Bell Centre in Montreal.

The UFC announced Tuesday that verbal agreements are in place for the two bouts.

Featherweight Hominick (20-10) will look to end a two-fight losing streak that began with his unsuccessful title challenge against Jose Aldo in April 2011 and extended with a seven-second knockout loss to Chan-Sung Jung last month.

Yagin (15-5-1) is a Filipino-American out of Hawaii who fell short in his UFC debut last September against Junior Assuncao.

In 2011, Toronto’s Bocek (9-4) fought to a decision loss against lightweight title contender Ben Henderson and then bounced back with a win over Nik Lentz.

Wiman (14-6) has won four of his last five fights and in his most recent fight in October, earned a decision over Mac Danzig.

UFC 145 will be the promotion’s first event in Canada of 2012 and its first trip back to the Bell Centre since UFC 124: St-Pierre vs. Koscheck 2 in December 2010.

Brendan SchaubAfter suffering a knockout loss in his biggest career bout, Brendan Schaub will attempt to bounce back when he faces Ben Rothwell at UFC 145 in March 2012.

The UFC confirmed that both heavyweights have verbally agreed to the bout, which will take place during an event at the Bell Centre in Montreal.

Schaub recently saw his four-fight win streak snapped in a first-round knockout loss to Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira at UFC 134 in Rio de Janeiro. The 6-foot-4 Coloradoan looked good in the early going before getting ciipped, and Nogueira finished him with ground strikes for only his third career KO in over 40 fights.

Prior to that, Schaub (8-2) had put together a nice run, capped by a third-round knockout of Mirko “Cro Cop” Filipovic that vaulted him into contender status.

Rothwell too will be looking to rebound from a loss. Following a long layoff due to a knee injury and subsequent surgery, Rothwell (31-8) returned at September’s UFC 135 and lost a decision to Mark Hunt.

The UFC has yet to officially announce a main event for UFC 145, but other bouts include Rory MacDonald vs. Che Mills and Travis Browne vs. Chad Griggs. The Bell Centre has been one of the most profitable venues for the promotion in recent years, with the arena briefly holding the North American attendance record, a mark that was later shattered by Toronto’s cavernous Rogers Centre.
