Contest: Design Urijah Faber’s ‘Punch Buddies’ Shirt, Win Tickets to UFC 148!

(Hint: Incorporate gigantic women whenever possible.)

Great news, everybody: Our friends at Punch Buddies — who have produced such classics as the Chael Sonnen “I Want YOU Anderson Silva” shirt and Melvin Guillard’s historical revenge-fantasy tee — have just signed Urijah Faber to their roster. With the California Kid making his coaching debut on The Ultimate Fighter Live this Friday on FX, we thought it would be a perfect time to launch another t-shirt design contest on CagePotato.com. And the stakes have never been higher.

Your assignment is to design a new Punch Buddies-style t-shirt for Urijah Faber. (Check out some of PB’s past designs here for inspiration; they usually include a pun or phrase based on the fighter’s name/nickname/persona, and an insane, cartoonish illustration. Easy as pie.) E-mail your work to [email protected] by Wednesday, March 21st. We’ll announce our favorite design by the end of that week.

The winner will get two tickets to watch Faber complete his trilogy against rival TUF coach Dominick Cruz at UFC 148, July 7th at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. But wait, it (potentially) gets even better…

If your winning design is really, really good — like good enough for Punch Buddies to actually produce it — they’ll arrange for you to present the design to Urijah Faber himself, and maybe, just maybe, he might even wear it on The Ultimate Fighter. How incredible would that be? Honestly, that would be the #1 highlight of your entire life. And don’t give me any of this “the birth of my first child” bullshit.

I’m sure your heads are spinning right now, so please drop any questions you might have in the comments section. Otherwise, you have two weeks to produce the greatest t-shirt design of your life. Good luck. We’re all pulling for you.

Urijah Faber to Dominick Cruz: "You’re Welcome, for Letting You Live"

Tension is building between former WEC featherweight champion Urijah Faber (26-5) and reigning UFC bantamweight champion Dominick Cruz (19-1) and they will both be fighting in a highly anticipated rematch later this year.

The first time they met, Cruz was undefeated and 9-0 in MMA. In his first bout in the WEC, he lost to “The California Kid” by guillotine choke in the first round. It would be the most important thing to happen to him in his career, as he would go on to win every fight after that, including a rematch with Faber at UFC 136.

“The guy is a good fighter,” said Faber, who dropped a unanimous decision loss to Cruz two fights ago. “The guy is good at what he does, which is scoring some points. He’s not dangerous. He’s not scary. I knocked him down three different times in three different rounds. He had 11 takedown attempts and basically got one and a half.”

Cruz’s win-streak includes wins over Faber, Demetrious Johnson, Scott Jorgensen, Joseph Benavidez and Brian Bowles. He also holds a win over UFC flyweight contender Ian McCall.

“If the guy thinks I don’t know how to beat him, I already did beat him,” Faber continued. “The guy is alive right now ’cause there are rules in MMA and I had to release his neck and let him breathe so you’re welcome Dominick Cruz, for giving you life and letting you live. Next time, I’m going to do the same thing. I’m going to let you live, but it’s going to be painful.”

Faber will enter the bout having come off his impressive second round submission win over Bowles, which took place at UFC 139.

The bout is expected to take place at the MGM Grand Garden Arena on July 7 and will be following The Ultimate Fighter 15, where Cruz and Faber will both be opposing coaches.

Dominick Cruz vs. Urijah Faber III Targeted for UFC 148 Fight Card

A third meeting between UFC bantamweight champion Dominick Cruz and Urijah Faber has been set since the latter defeated Brian Bowles at UFC 139 in November. However, on Friday, UFC co-owner Lorenzo Fertitta finally named a date for the bout between the former WEC titleholders.

According to Fertitta, Cruz and Faber will square off on July 7, five days after the one-year anniversary of their second fight against one another. Following their inclusion as coaches on The Ultimate Fighter, the elite bantamweights will return to the site of their second bout, the MGM Grand Garden Arena, and settle their feud in a rubber match at UFC 148.

Fertitta’s announcement came shortly after Cruz and Faber had already begun their bickering through their Twitter accounts.

After Cruz responded to a quote from “The California Kid” stating that he could beat the champion at coaching, Faber snapped back by bringing up his submission win over Cruz in their first meeting in March 2007.

Undisturbed by Faber’s jab, Cruz fired back with a shot of his own, mocking Faber for his inability to reclaim a title since losing his WEC belt to Mike Brown in November 2008.

Needless to say, there will be plenty more verbal altercations between Cruz and Faber on the upcoming season of The Ultimate Fighter, which will make its FX premier on March 9.

Cruz, who beat Faber in a close decision in their previous meeting, will be looking for a fifth consecutive defense of a Zuffa-promoted title at UFC 148.

The fight between Cruz and Faber would likely serve as the main event for UFC 148, for which no other bouts have yet been scheduled.
