Former UFC champion Ronda Rousey discusses head injuries serious head injuries she suffered during her career.

Rousey remains one of the most influential fighters to ever grace the sport of MMA. However, since her departure from the fight game the former Olympic bronze medallist has little MMA-related appearance, taken part in MMA media, and has hardly even discusses her career.

“It got to the point where if I was getting touched at all, if I was getting jabbed, I was starting to get concussion symptoms and I couldn’t tell my coach about it,” Ronda Rousey said. “I couldn’t tell Dana [White] about it. ‘Cause, they would retire me. They wouldn’t let me fight. And I wasn’t ready to let go. I wasn’t ready to admit that I couldn’t do everything perfectly. ‘Cause that’s what I had to believe to be able to be at that level.” (H/T Brobible)

Ronda Rousey talks damage suffered against Holly Holm

Rousey’s reached the very top of the sport, but it didn’t take very long for things to come crashing down. She would suffer a pivotal knockout loss to Holly Holm, later attempting to come back nearly a year later against Amanda Nunes, losing by first round knockout. She would never fight again.

Further discussing her career, Rousey revealed the extensive damage she suffered during the fight with Holm.

“The first time I got touched in that fight, it knocked all my bottom teeth loose and I was completely out on my feet the entire fight,” Rousey said. “I couldn’t see how far away she was from me, if that makes sense. And [I was] not seeing things as quickly. Usually when I fight, time dilates and I see everything in slow motion. This was like I was in like a fog where I couldn’t tell a range or anything.”

When Ronda Rousey was shockingly dominated and knocked out by Holly Holm at UFC 193 on Saturday night, many fans were emotional to see her reign come to an end. One person who wasn’t the least bit upset is Rousey’s biggest career rival, Miesha Tate.

Quite the contrary, actually.

“Cupcake” Tate spoke about Rousey’s first MMA loss while hosting a UFC viewing party at The Sapphire Club in Las Vegas, Nevada.

“I’m f*cking stoked,” said Tate, via FOXSports.com.

“Honestly, f*ck Ronda Rousey. F*ck her and her ‘nobody has the right to beat her.’ Well, you just got beat, b*tch!”

Tate continued, touching on the other half of the equation — the fact that Holly Holm won and now Tate might be right back in the UFC Women’s Bantamweight title picture.

“I’m proud of Holly. She had the perfect, flawless game plan,” Tate said. “She came in here tonight and she’s the champion and I look forward to that fight because I think I’m next in line.”

Heading into last night’s (Sat., Nov. 4, 2017) UFC 217 from Madison Square Garden in New York City, New Yor, the general overarching consensus was that former UFC women’s strawweight champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk was going to roll over Rose Namajunas on the main card and tie Ronda Rousey’s record for most consecutive UFC female title defenses in the process.

However, “Thug” Rose had quite a different idea, and she proved that her evolution as a fighter was complete when she shocked Jedrzejczyk with a brutal first-round knockout (watch full highlights here) that actually had the former champ tapping to strikes.

The emotions understandably set in for the previously dominant Jedrzejczyk at the UFC 217 post-fight press conference, and some even speculated that she had gone the way of former women’s bantamweight champion Rousey by getting a bit over-heated and physical during pre-fight staredowns, something Rousey did during the lead-up to her first MMA loss to Holly Holm at UFC 193 in November 2015 (where Jedrzejczyk ironically secured the second defense of her title).

But Jedrzejczyk wasn’t having any of those comparisons, as she noted she wouldn’t take the loss to Namajunas personally (quotes via Bloody Elbow) and let it affect her overall psyche like Rousey, who returned to MMA for one more knockout loss and has been missing ever since, did. Instead, she attributed it to being just another part of the notoriously brutal fight game:

“No no, please don’t compare me to Ronda Rousey and I love her so much and we have very good relationship, but please let’s leave this bullshit away,” said the former champion. “I never take fights personal and I’m not emotional when fighting.”

“This is what happens,” added Jedrzejczyk. “Big congrats to Rose, I’m happy for her, but it was not personal, you know? This is what happened. The things which happened before the fight had nothing to do with this fight. It was a good punch, she cut me off, I really don’t know what happened, but it’s the fight you know? We take these risks.”

As for her next bout, Jedrzejczyk said she would sit down with UFC President Dana White to discuss her next move, but believes that with five prior title defenses, she had done enough to earn an immediate rematch with “Thug” Rose:

“I will sit and talk to Dana and the UFC, I think I’ve been a good athlete and a good champion for the UFC. I think I deserve the rematch. If I get the rematch we will see, I am looking forwards.”

The former champion will look forward, with the goal of tying and/or eclipsing Rousey’s record in the rearview mirror for now. there’s no doubt Jedrzejczyk is still one of the finest strikes in mixed martial arts (MMA), yet Namajunas may have bridged what was viewed as an unfathomable gap in only one round at UFC 217.

That means it’s back to the drawing board for Jedrzejczyk, but just don’t expect her to go into hiding like Rousey.

Recently, former UFC women’s champion Ronda Rousey has appeared at World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) tapings, leading to speculation that ‘Rowdy’ would soon begin a career in pro-wrestling after losing her last two bouts in the octagon.

Rousey has been out of action since a first-round TKO loss to current UFC women’s bantamweight champion Amanda Nunes in the main event of last December’s UFC 207, a loss that followed her shocking knockout at the feet of Holly Holm in her previous bout at UFC 193.

It’s widely believed the women’s MMA pioneer will never return to compete in MMA, and UFC President Dana White, a good friend of Rousey’s, has repeatedly stated he believes it to be true in interviews. The rumors of her foray into the WWE only serve to give weight to that view, and apparently, she’s becoming quite involved with pro-wrestling.

A well-known lifelong fan, Rousey has already entered into training with the WWE according to Fightful.com (via MMA Mania):

“According to sources, WWE had referred Rousey and company to current superstar Brian Kendrick for training purposes in Southern California. There was also buzz backstage at the tournament — mainly among WWE employees and contractors — that Rousey’s training would start soon. She’s taken some basic bumps among other things thus far.”

Rousey’s ‘Forse Horsewomen’ teammate Shayna Baszler recently competed in and won two matches in ‘The Mae Young Classic,’ a WWE tournament consisting of female competitors, for which Rousey was present ringside, prompting speculation that some sort of angle involving Rousey, Baszler, and the other two ‘Horsewomen,’ Jessamyn Duke and Marina Shafir versus a team of the top female wrestlers in WWE.

That would be a huge draw for WWE, and based on the situation where they ‘lent’ Brock Lesnar to the UFC so he could face Mark Hunt at UFC 200 last summer, it certainly isn’t a far-fetched possibility in that regard. Rousey doesn’t seem to want to return to fighting, at least not anytime soon, so a stint with the WWE where she’d be an obvious huge attraction without taking any more unnecessary punishment could be a welcome direction for her career.

And with her personal website recently revealing “Big news,” this could be what they were referring to. Stay tuned.
