Former UFC welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre has been gone for a long time now. Even before his post-UFC 167 retirement, ‘GSP’ later revealed he had completely lost the urge to compete. Vacating the belt after a narrow win over Johny Hendricks, St-Pierre left a huge hole in the division. Since that time, rumours and reports of a highly anticipated return have simply not materialised. Refuting the former champ’s comments, Dana White claimed ‘GSP’ did not want to fight again.

Contract disputes with the UFC led to St-Pierre’s heavily reported UFC 206 return falling apart. Apparently the Reebok deal was the main sticking point, and ‘GSP’ claimed he was now a free agent. Again shooting down these comments, the UFC president said St-Pierre was still under contract. Since that whole mess, the Toronto-based UFC 206 card has undergone massive change.

Is GSP Coming Back at UFC 206?

Seeing stacked fights featuring Donald Cerrone, Matt Brown, Anthony Pettis and Max Holloway added, UFC 206 has also taken some big hits. First Rashad Evans pulled out of his middleweight debut with Tim Kennedy, then we lost the main event yesterday. With Daniel Cormier injured, the event is now headlined by Holloway vs. Pettis, but is there more in store? According to Fight Network’s Robin Black, there could well be:

“I was sat right next to Georges St-Pierre for two and a half hours. One of the things he told me was he is staying in shape for UFC 206. Two weeks out, GSP is in fight shape and he wants to fight, that’s a fact. Can these guys get this thing done? That is in play for sure. (Georges manager) is on the phone to them right now, this is in play. All of a sudden for thirteen days, it’s nothing but (GSP). This mentality that it’s all about the lead up, that’s old school. Even in movies, there’s no proof that it works in this crowded landscape. It’s the hot ten days before that are the hot ten days. He’s training as if he’s fighting on that day.”

Daniel Cormier Pulls Out Of UFC 206 Main Event

They just can’t catch a break.

The UFC lost yet another high-profile match, as it was announced on Friday that the scheduled main event between Daniel Cormier and Anthony “Rumble” Johnson at UFC 206 in just over two weeks has been cancelled.

Cormier, the reigning UFC 205-pound champion who defeated Rumble to win the title in their first fight at UFC 187, was forced to pull out of the fight due to injury, leaving Rumble Johnson without an opponent for the December 10th pay-per-view in Toronto.

The Canadian Curse continues, as another event has virtually lost all of its’ luster. Initially the hope was that a Georges St-Pierre return could be put together for the show, however the negotiations ended up falling flat.

Additionally, the UFC 206 fight card, which goes down from the Air Canada Centre and will be broadcast live on pay-per-view, lost its’ co-main event, as the Rashad Evans vs. Tim Kennedy 185-pound fight that was originally scheduled for UFC 205 in New York City was scrapped for the second time in a row due to Evans’ health issues.

According to various reports, the hope right now is that UFC will be able to find someone to replace D.C. against Rumble, who they are attempting to keep on the card, likely in the main event spot if a worthy opponent that can weigh 205-pounds on 12/9 emerges.

Daniel Cormier Apologizes To Anthony Johnson For UFC 206 Withdrawal

The day after Thanksgiving, the MMA world is still digesting the unfortunate news that light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier has been forced out of December 10’s UFC 206 main event against Anthony ‘Rumble’ Johnson.

It’s the second such withdrawal in three scheduled bouts for ‘DC,’ as he pulled out of his awaited rematch with archrival Jon Jones in the main event of UFC 197 this past April, and ‘Bones” removal of the re-scheduled bout at UFC 200 due to a failed USADA test certainly didn’t help matters.

Cormier famously beat ‘Rumble’ by submission at 2015’s UFC 187 after Jones was unceremoniously removed from his bout with Johnson following a concerning hit-and-run accident involving a pregnant woman in his adopted home of Albuquerque, New Mexico. That lead to a mess at the top of the shallow UFC 205-pound division, and no one is quite sure where it will head.

However, Cormier and Johnson aren’t going to rip into each other like he and Jones did; in fact the opposite is true. That was made evident by the champ’s public apology to ‘Rumble’ on Twitter directly after the news broke today:

Johnson will similarly even-keeled in his own response to the mess, noting that worrying about his latest lost title fight would do absolutely nothing before wishing ‘DC’ nothing but the best in his recovery:

The UFC is reportedly looking for a short-notice replacement to fight ‘Rumble,’ but that may be a tall order to find someone willing a competitor most consider to be the hardest hitter in all of MMA.

Set for December 10 from Toronto, UFC 206 is quickly falling apart after losing the Rashad Evans vs. Tim Kennedy bout earlier this week. It promises to be a tough sell on pay-per-view (PPV) in the middle of a Holiday season where the UFC is already asking fans for a ton of their time and hard-earned cash, so stay tuned for any new updates as they arise.

The injury bug has bitten the UFC 206 main event. A light heavyweight title rematch between champion Cormier and top contender Anthony Johnson was scheduled to main event UFC 206, but Ariel Helwani of MMA Fighting is reporting that Cormier has been forced to withdraw from the event due to an injury.

The UFC is currently working on finding a replacement for Cormier, and the UFC is still planning to keep Johnson on the card. This marks the second time this week that UFC 206 has lost a fight. On Monday, Tim Kennedy found out that he will not be fighting Rashad Evans at the event due to Ontario Athletic Commission refusing to license Evans.

If the UFC can’t get a reasonable opponent and big name to fight Johnson at the event, then the UFC might make this event a FOX Sports 1 event.

UFC 206 takes place in Toronto, Canada at the Air Canada Centre on Dec. 10th. The main card will air on PPV (pay-per-view) while the prelims will air on FOX Sports 1 and UFC Fight Pass. Here is the updated card for the event:

Featherweight: Cub Swanson vs. Dooho Choi

Strawweight: Valerie Letourneau vs. Viviane Pereira

Flyweight: Zach Makovsky vs. Dustin Ortiz

On The Thanksgiving holiday here in the United States, UFC released a new “Free Fight” that fans will be thankful for.

Featured above is the complete first fight between Daniel Cormier and Anthony “Rumble” Johnson, the five-round showdown for the UFC Light Heavyweight Championship that served as the main event for the UFC 187 pay-per-view.

D.C. and Rumble will fight in the rematch, once again a pay-per-view headliner with the 205-pound title on the line, when UFC 206 touches down at the Air Canada Centre in Toronto, Ontario, Canada on Saturday, December 10th.

With Rashad Evans Out of UFC 206, Who Should Tim Kennedy Fight Next?

Tim Kennedy has his hands tied. After opponent Rashad Evans was denied licensing by the New York and Toronto commission – due to brain injury – Tim Kennedy was left fishing for a partner, again. With UFC 206 fast approaching Kennedy has taken to twitter to call out anyone that will listen, even Brock Lesnar.

“Hello, is there anybody out there?”

But let’s face it, Brock Lesnar is freakin HUGE and besides being a behemoth, he’s also suspended due to a doping infraction. Patrick Cote, while a native Moose jockey (canadian), is supposedly out due to an elbow injury…so where does that leave us?

 Kennedy vs. Silva

Anderson Silva has become a journeyman of some sort. While we still believe in his voodoo magic, his last fights have been  a wonky last minute fight at light heavyweight against Daniel Cormier, and before that a razor thin lost against the count Michael Bisping. With a pulled fight against Uriah Hall, it seems he’ll take on whoever poses a challenge, so why not Kennedy? Despite his age you never really know what Anderson will do next, and with a tough well rounded fighter like Kennedy, sparks could fly.

Kennedy vs. Vitor Belfort

Though usually a 205′er Kennedy has already said he would fight at a catchweight to compensate for Vitor’s “dadbod”. This is an interesting matchup because though Vitor’s the bigger man, at 6’0 he’s not exactly a large light heavyweight and has fought at middleweight in the past. While Vitor can dish out a beating in the first round, Kennedy can definitely take one (check out his strikeforce match with Luke Rockhold) and keep on ticking. I predict this fight is won in the third round.

While these two seem the most likely with Gegard Mousasi looking for a big fight, Derek Brunson, and Whittaker tied up this weekend, and Kelvin Gastelum suspended for missing weight, who do you guys want to see Kennedy fight?

Be sure to like us on Facebook and leave your comments on who should step into the cage next with Tim Kennedy.
