Max Holloway is currently riding an extremely impressive nine-fight win streak, having defeated names such as Cub Swanson, Charles Oliveira, Jeremy Stephens, and most recently Ricardo Lamas; and is currently the No. 3-ranked featherweight in the UFC.

The 24-year-old has yet to receive a title shot since downing the elite of the 145-pound weight class, but has the opportunity to thrust himself into the title picture with a win over former lightweight champ Anthony ‘Showtime’ Pettis next month. The two will meet in the co-main event of UFC 206 with the winner most likely the next candidate to challenge for the 145-pound throne.

With a win Holloway does not want a rematch with current featherweight champ Conor McGregor, however, but instead a fight with interim 145-pound champ Jose Aldo who has gotten under the skin of the Hawaiian as of late. Speaking on SiriusXM Rush’s Toe-2-Toe earlier this week (courtesy of MMA Fighting), Holloway called the Brazilian champ a ‘pu**y’ for threatening to retire if not granted his rematch with ‘The Notorious One’ form UFC 194:

“After this fight everything to my agenda is let me know if Aldo found that f**king vaccine for that f**king pussy-itis he got. That motherf**ker been running. So tell him he can’t run for much longer. Tell him a Hawaiian is coming and I’m creeping. Tell him to be ready.”

While Holloway admits the obvious thing to do with a win over Pettis would be to call out McGregor, but believes the more ‘realistic’ option would be to throw down with Aldo next.

Make no mistake, however, Holloway would still love to avenge his previous loss to the Irishman, and welcomes the opportunity to silence the naysayers who claim that he was the only opponent the heavy-handed SBG Ireland product didn’t knock out because he was injured:

“The obvious thing is I would love to fight Conor McGregor. We’ve got some history there and he won and people saying he didn’t knock me out because of an injury he had. I was injured in the fight too so let’s test that theory, I want to test that theory. But being realistic, there’s a guy with an interim title inside our division. That’d be f**kin’ wild if the UFC let me pass the interim title to fight for the real belt. I’m just being realistic, that’s why I’m saying Aldo. And Conor’s gonna be gone for a while too. They said he might not be fighting for a while.”

“I have no control over it so why cry over spilled milk? You spill milk, are you gonna try and mop it up and squeeze the mop back into the carton? No, you mop that s**t up and you move on. I’m not gonna cry about something I have no control over. It is what it is. I’m gonna keep showing the world what I deserve…and they can’t be denying me for much longer. All I have to do is keeping on focusing on what Max Holloway does and that’s winning and winning fashionably.”

max holloway conor mcgregor ufcDespite many believing that Holloway could potentially hold out for a title fight given his recent streak of impressive victories, ‘Blessed’ instead wants to continue proving he is the best in the world. What better opportunity to do so than defeating a former champion?

“I ain’t making no excuses. Everybody is like, ‘oh you deserve a title shot, you should wait.’ If you’re waiting then you don’t believe you’re the best guy in the world. I believe I’m the best guy in the world. Pettis has a lot of value to his name. He’s a former champion. Motherf**ker’s on a Wheaties box so that’s pretty big. He has a huge name and I look forward to the challenge.”

If Holloway is able to emerge victorious over ‘Showtime’ come fight night in Canada, do you believe that a match-up with Aldo is on the horizon? Or will he again be denied a shot at the UFC gold he has been working towards his entire career?

Holloway and Pettis will meet in the co-main event of UFC 206 live on pay-per-view (PPV), from the Air Canada Centre in Toronto, Ontario, Canada on December 10, 2016.

As well as the masses of hype surrounding UFC 205 in New York, the recent months have seen an opposing focus on UFC 206. Returning to Canada for the third time this year, UFC 206 will mark the first pay-per-view event held in the North since UFC 174 in 2014.

That event, headlined by Demetrious Johnson vs. Ali Bagautinov, ranks among the lowest-drawing PPV cards of all-time. The December 10 card is also the first time the promotion has returned to Toronto since 2013 with UFC 165. Fuelling the negative attention from fans was both the poor nature of the last PPV in Canada, and one former welterweight champion named Georges St-Pierre.

Rumours began spreading earlier this year that ‘GSP’ would be coming back to the UFC. With UFC 206 just around the corner, it looked like the stars would align nicely. Having been out of the game since vacating the belt after UFC 167, St-Pierre’s octagon return has been highly anticipated. Suddenly ‘Rush’ announced he was a free agent following failed contract negotiations, the promotion denied his exit and claimed he was still under contract. This well publicised rift caused some sects of Canadian fans to join forces and start a boycott on UFC 206.

Although St-Pierre is no longer coming back at UFC 206, a number of great fights have been added since that news. Here’s a breakdown of some of the best fights going down at UFC 206:

Cub Swanson-Dooho Choi

Cub Swanson vs. Doo Ho Choi

Featherweight contender Cub Swanson takes on surging ‘Korean Superboy’ Doo Ho Choi on the main card. ‘Beautiful Destruction’ has some wildly unique striking, and Choi is rapidly becoming known for his heavy hands, and is currently on a 14-fight streak. Watch out for this one.

Rashad Evans has found it rather difficult to say the least when it comes to his attempts to make his 185-pound debut, as he has now been denied a license to compete by both the New York State Athletic Commission (NYSAC) and the Ontario Ministory of Tourism, Culture and Sport in the span of a few weeks.

Evans was scheduled to make his middleweight debut against Tim Kennedy at UFC 205 live on pay-per-view (PPV) from New York City, but was denied his license and the bout was called off. The bout was re-booked for UFC 206, however, Evans license troubles again would force him off of the card.

The UFC has released an official statement on the matter which you can read here:

“UFC has been notified by the Ontario Athletic Commission that it has declined to approve a license for middleweight Rashad Evans, based on the recent medical issue that prohibited him from competing at UFC 205 in New York City. As a result, Evans’ rescheduled bout against Tim Kennedy, set for UFC 206 in Toronto on Saturday, December 10, has subsequently been cancelled.”

“The UFC organization takes the health and safety of all athletes competing under the UFC banner very seriously and has encouraged Evans to take all the appropriate time to consult with his physicians and properly evaluate his medical status prior to scheduling any future bouts.”

The Ontario Ministory of Tourism, Culture and Sport (courtesy of MMA Fighting) has also released a statement of their own regarding the matter:

“The Office of the Athletics Commissioner is responsible for upholding medical requirements, which are put in place to protect the safety of contestants. In regards to the UFC 206 event on December 10, Mr. Evans has not cleared Ontario’s medical licensing requirements. We can confirm that his proposed bout has not been approved but are unable to comment further on his private and confidential medical information.”

As for Kennedy, he has yet to be given a replacement opponent for UFC 206 in Ontario, however, early reports suggest Kelvin Gastelum as the early choice for the Special Forces veteran. We’ll keep you updated as Evans’ situation progresses….

Tim Kennedy believes the UFC has plenty of time to find him a replacement opponent this time around.

After it was confirmed on Monday that Kennedy will not be facing Rashad Evans at UFC 206 next month, the former Strikeforce title contender posted on social media that he will remain in the “longest fight camp in history” to compete on the card.

The Ontario Athletic Commission revealed that they will not allow Evans to compete in Toronto next month. Earlier this month, the New York Athletic Commission did the same just hours before UFC 205 weigh-ins, scrapping the middleweight encounter.

Kennedy has not fought since September 2014 when he lost to Yoel Romero.

Well, we can scratch Rashad Evans vs. Tim Kennedy off of our lists of “fights we’re looking forward to” once again.

According to Ariel Helwani of MMAFighting.com, the Middleweight debut of Rashad Evans against one of the longtime ranked contenders of the division has been pulled from the scheduled lineup for the upcoming UFC 206 pay-per-view.

Worse yet, it’s apparently once again due to issues with the Commission that is sanctioning the event.

After announcing on his weekly program, “The MMA Hour,” which airs every Monday at the MMA Fighting website, Helwani’s website posted quotes from Evans’ manager who claims that despite it being cancelled twice, both times by the governing body overseeing the event, nothing is wrong with the former UFC Light Heavyweight Champion.

“He’s fine, guys,” Ali Abdel-Aziz said. “Rashad is fine. There’s nothing wrong with him.”

Rashad Evans vs. Tim Kennedy in Evans’ 185-pound debut was originally scheduled to take place at this month’s UFC 205: Alvarez vs. McGregor pay-per-view, but was pulled during the weekend of the show due to the New York State Athletic Commission refusing to clear him due to an undisclosed medical issue.

Regarding the Ontario Commission, who did the same thing this week, Abdel-Aziz said, “They don’t even like MMA.”

Headlined by Daniel Cormier vs. Anthony “Rumble” Johnson, UFC 206 takes place live from the Air Canada Centre in Toronto, Ontario, Canada on Saturday, December 10th. Join us here at MMANews.com on 12/10 for live coverage of the show.
