The UFC put on their most stacked card of the year thus far this past weekend with UFC 211 and their prelims, which featured several slugfests as well as exciting bouts, delivered with good viewership. The viewership numbers for the event are in. The prelims, which were headlined by Eddie Alvarez vs. Dustin Poirier, pulled in 1,148 million viewers. UFC 211 prelims viewership was up from the UFC 210 prelims that did 723,000 and UFC 209 prelims that had 1,033 million viewers.

UFC 211 took place on Saturday, May 13, 2017 at the American Airlines Center in Dallas, Texas. Three bouts aired on the UFC Fight Pass prelims at 5:30 p.m. ET while the FX prelims aired at 8 p.m. ET. The five bouts will take place on the main card that aired on pay-per-view (PPV) at 10 p.m. ET.

The pre-fight show drew 522,000, while the viewership numbers for the post-fight show drew 329,000. UFC 211 pre-fight show was up from the 268,000 viewers that UFC 210 drew. The weigh-ins did not rank in the top 150 shows on cable. For those who want comparisons, here are the viewership numbers for the last three UFC PPV preliminary cards that aired on FX:

UFC 188: 727,000

UFC 185: 1,003 million

UFC 174: 784,000

With the post-fight show doing good numbers is a good sign for PPV buys as that meant that a lot of people were interested enough to hang out and catch the results/highlights of the actual PPV main card after the event aired. Usually when a PPV event does a good/great PPV buy rate, then the prelims and the post-fight show does good viewership numbers. Both the UFC and FOX have to be happy with these numbers.

Fight fans will have to take a break from action as the UFC does not hold an event until May 28th. UFC Fight Night 109 will be held at Ericsson Globe in Stockholm, Sweden. A light heavyweight bout between former title challengers Alexander Gustafsson and Glover Teixeira will serve as the main event.

On Saturday night (May 13, 2017), in the co-main event of UFC 211 from the American Airlines Center in Dallas, Texas, reigning 115-pound champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk tightened her rattle snake like grip on the strawweight division, scoring a dominant one-sided decision victory over the tough and gritty Jessica Andrade, beating the Brazilian in every round on each of the three judges’ scorecards.

The win marked the fifth defense of Jedrzejczy’s title and she accomplished this victory in impressive fashion, repeatedly peppering Andrade with a lightning quick jab as well an effective combination of elbows, knees and kicks.

After such a victory, the Polish striker should’ve been on top of the world, but she ended her night leaving the post-fight press conference in tears after she was asked a question by MMAFighting’s Ariel Helwani regarding her coach Kami Barzini, who will be making his departure from American Top Team.

Once again speaking with Helwani on today’s (May 15, 2017) edition of The MMA Hour, Jedrzejczyk said that her sadness stemmed from the fact that Barzini is her ‘master’:

“It’s amazing how he changed my wrestling, how he changed my takedown defense,” Jedrzejczyk said. “You can see that in my last fight. That’s the thing. I’d like to work with him. And he’s such a good person. He’s a master of wrestling — he’s my master. But he’s like such a good spirit. He’s like a doctor.

“Before this fight, he said I’m like a lion. I felt like a lion.”

Jedrzejczyk’s wrestling has certainly improved, as she stuffed a plethora of Andrade’s takedown attempts, while springing back up instantly when taken down.

Since joining American Top Team late last year, the 29-year-old champion has clearly continued to elevate her skills and Barzini appears to have been a big part of that process. Overall, however, Jedrzejczyk admits that she’s well taken care of at ATT:

“It’s not just about the work,” Jedrzejczyk said. “They really take care of me. They’re with me all the time. They ask me how I feel after the training, before the training. We hang out together.”

In her next fight, Jedrzejczyk will look to tie Ronda Rousey’s record for the most consecutive title defenses made by a female fighter and some have already begun to consider her the best female fighter in the world. She agrees this may be true, but that doesn’t mean she lacks emotion. Respect also seems to be important to the woman dubbed “Joanna Champion” and she urged all of her fans to show respect:

“Good people connect with good people and this is what happened with us,” Jedrzejczyk said. “Maybe I’m the baddest chick on the planet, maybe I’m the baddest woman in the Octagon, but I’m definitely emotional. I believe in people so badly and I love when people treat me the same way. It’s not just about the money.”

“It’s all about the right relationships with people,” she told Helwani. “To all of you, remember — one day you can be a champion, you can be the richest person in the world, you can be the boss or the director of some big company, but remember the next day you can be at the beginning again. So, respect people and it’s all about the right relationships.”

Do you consider Jedrzejczyk to be the baddest woman on the planet?

Although he hasn’t necessarily transcended the mixed martial arts world like some other titleholders have, heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic’s recent run of success is something to take note of.

The 34-year-old Ohio native has scored five straight T/KO victories over some of the very best heavyweights of all-time including Mark Hunt, Andrei Arlovski, Fabricio Werdum, Alistair Overeem and Junior Dos Santos. His last loss came in a back-and-forth slug fest with Dos Santos in 2014, but he has seemed to improve each time out since, which was shown in his rematch with “Cigano” this past weekend (May 13, 2017) at UFC 211, as Miocic dispatched the Brazilian in just over two minutes with a brutal right hand.

Clearly, Miocic is something special, but not every heavyweight feels that way. In fact, No. 5-ranked rising contender Francis Ngannou said earlier today (May 15, 2017) on The MMA Hour that he was ‘not impressed’ by Miocic:

“That was a good performance, but I’m not impressed,” Ngannou told Ariel Helwani. “I’m not impressed with him. [I’m more impressed] by Velasquez. I think Velasquez is the best heavyweight that we have. That’s why I want to fight him too.”

“I’m ranked number five right now,” he continued. “I’ll probably fight everyone right now. I already called out [Cain] Velasquez. He said he’s injured, but I’d like to fight him and just get the title shot.”

Velasquez, a former champion, is the only heavyweight ranked in the top four that Miocic has not yet fought, which is why many want to see the two face off, although Velasquez was scheduled to compete against Werdum this past December, but he was forced to withdraw with a back injury. A timetable for his return has not yet been announced.

While Ngannou, a French knockout artist possessing a 5-0 UFC record, expressed interest in a bout with Velasquez, he admitted that he would obviously accept a fight with Miocic if it were offered to him:

“Yes, that’s true.” he said when asked if he believed he was ready for Miocic. “That is one of my reasons for moving to Vegas. Right now, I’m ready for all challenges.”

“If they give me the opportunity, I will take it.”

Ngannou is coming off of an impressive first round knockout victory over former champion Andrei Arlovski this past January and “The Predator” seems focused on proving his doubters wrong:

“You will always have that kind of people,” he said of his skeptics. “[They say] ‘you’re not ready, you need to improve yourself, you need to learn more, Stipe is too tough,’ but until the fight [happens], no one will no for sure. I would like to get the fight.”

Would you give the 30-year-old contender a chance against Miocic?
