Max Holloway is the villain heading into UFC 212 – and he’s just fine with that.

The 25-year-old Hawaiian interim featherweight champ is on a tremendous 10-fight win streak, with his most recent win seeing him finish former lightweight champ Anthony Pettis in the third round at UFC 206 to secure the interim strap. Holloway will be attempting to unify the featherweight titles in the main event of UFC 212 on pay-per-view (PPV) from the Jeunesse Arena on June 3rd, 2017, when he takes on Jose Aldo in his backyard of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

During yesterday’s (Tues. April 11, 2017) press conference to promote the event Holloway commented on fighting in enemy territory when he’s locked in the Octagon with Aldo, and said he’s embracing the role as the bad guy (quotes via MMA Junkie):

“I can’t wait to get in front of (the Brazilian) people,” Holloway said. “It would be stupid to think I wouldn’t be the bad guy coming to the fight. I’m the bad guy, and I’m embracing the role. He’s got to do his job. Show up June 3, and let’s get it done.”

For some time now Aldo has been contemplating moving on from his mixed martial arts (MMA) career and fulfilling a life-long dream by pursing a career in soccer. So, naturally, Holloway’s generous Hawaiian roots showed through as he gifted the Brazilian a soccer ball to get him started in his post-fighting career:

“I came with a soccer ball because the old boy said he wants to play soccer after he’s done fighting,” Holloway said. “Us Hawaiians, we like to give gifts, and this gift is for him. He’s going into retirement. It’s right here. He can have the ball, and we can get this fight going.”

Jose Aldo Is Ready To Embrace ‘Trash Talk Era’ Of MMA

Jose Aldo and Max Holloway are set to main event UFC 212 on pay-per-view (PPV) from the Jeunesse Arena in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil to unify their featherweight titles on June 3rd, 2017.

Aldo originally ruled as the featherweight king for four years before being knocked out in just 13 seconds by Conor McGregor at UFC 194 back in December of 2015. ‘Scarface’ went on to win the interim 145-pound strap at UFC 200 when he defeated Frankie Edgar via unanimous decision.

He was later promoted to undisputed champion after McGregor was stripped of his title after not having defended the title for almost a year. 25-year-old Max Holloway would win the new interim title by knocking out Anthony Pettis in the main event of UFC 206, setting up his unification bout with Aldo in Brazil.

During a UFC 212 press conference in Brazil yesterday (April 11, 2017) Aldo spoke on his upcoming bout with ‘Blessed’, saying he’s embracing the trash talk leading up to the contest as he knows it makes for a better financial payoff – as he found out in his feud with ‘The Notorious One’ (quotes via MMA Fighting):

“I think that this rivalry is great because it sells more and gives us money,” Aldo said. “We’re going through a new generation now that is completely different than when I started in the sport. When I started, athletes fought for honor, respect, philosophy. Today, it’s not a real fighter. It’s this joke. If you don’t talk, you fight for nothing, you’ll be left behind.”

“Rankings mean nothing, you have to talk trash,” he continued. “What drives this (sport) today is money, and that’s super normal to me now. I made a lot of money (against McGregor), and I’m thinking about it now. I think about continuing being champion and having my honor and respect, but it’s not worth being the good guy anymore. The thing is to talk trash. Talking makes the fight bigger. … When the fight is over, everyone goes in opposite sides with money in the pocket. You have to talk trash because that brings money.”

If all goes well against Holloway the Brazilian is looking forward to getting a few superfights under his belt down the line, after already having one at lightweight fall through earlier this year:

“I have this fight first, and after I win, I’ll think about what’s next,” Aldo said. “The division has stopped for a bit. Not only my division, but lightweight too. I tried to get a fight done (at lightweight) but it didn’t happen. After I win, we’ll see. I already have a few fights in my head. I want superfights, to challenge other opponents. After I win, I have a plan in my head.”

Anderson Silva Wants To Fight Nick Diaz At UFC 212

Former longtime UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva was scheduled to take on rising contender Kelvin Gastelum at UFC 212 on June 3, 2017 in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil, but it was reported last week that Gastelum had been flagged by USADA (United States Anti-Doping Agency) for a potential anti-doping violation, which subsequently forced him out

Former longtime UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva was scheduled to take on rising contender Kelvin Gastelum at UFC 212 on June 3, 2017 in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil, but it was reported last week that Gastelum had been flagged by USADA (United States Anti-Doping Agency) for a potential anti-doping violation, which subsequently forced him out of the bout with Silva.

The UFC quickly made it clear that “The Spider” would likely remain on the card, and names like Luke Rockhold and Vitor Belfort emerged as potential replacement opponents. Silva, however, doesn’t appear to be interested in fighting either man:

“I’m coming off a win (over Derek Brunson), right, after a long time without wins, so it doesn’t make sense to fight any of them because they are both coming off losses,” Silva said at a UFC 212 press conference in Rio de Janeiro (Via MMAFighting.com). “It’s not something that will add anything for me. It doesn’t make sense.

“I’m ready to fight whoever the UFC puts there. It doesn’t matter who that is, be someone who’s coming off wins and adds something to my legacy, otherwise it doesn’t make sense.”

Instead, Silva expressed interest in a rematch with former Strikeforce welterweight champion Nick Diaz:

“It’s something that was on the table ,too, it’s possible that it happens this fight with Nick,” said Silva.

“I respect him, he’s an excellent fighter,” Silva said. “It would be an interesting fight. It would be cool because this fight makes sense. The (first) fight was a no contest, so we’ll see. Anything can happen.”

The first fight was indeed declared a no-contest. Silva technically won the bout via unanimous decision, but the result was overturned after both men failed drug tests.

Diaz, like Silva, was handed a suspension for his failed drug test, but he was deemed eligible to fight again this past August, although he has yet to return to the Octagon.

Would you like to see Silva and Diaz run it back in Brazil?

Anderson Silva and Vitor Belfort will rematch at UFC 212 from Brazil according to a report from Fighters Only Mag. Anderson Silva and Vitor Belfort will rematch at UFC 212 from Brazil according to a report from Fighters Only Mag.

The 40-year-old Belfort, who is nearing the end of his legendary mixed martial arts (MMA) career, has reportedly agreed to replace Kelvin Gastelum who was removed from the card after violating the United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA’s) anti-doping policy. There has been talk that former middleweight champion Luke Rockhold could be filling that void, but the report suggests ‘The Phenom’ is the man being brought in for the job instead.

Silva and Belfort initially met in the main event UFC 126 back in February of 2011, and it ended with one of the greatest knockouts in MMA history as ‘The Spider’ landed a front kick to Belfort’s face for a first round knockout. The victory marked Silva’s then-eighth successful consecutive title defense.

After that bout Silva would go on a three-fight win streak, before embarking on the first four-fight losing streak of his career. The former 185-pound champ’s last Octagon appearance saw him take home a controversial unanimous decision win over Derek Brunson at UFC 208 in February.

Belfort also had a mixed record following the UFC 126 bout but is currently on a three-fight losing streak, having been finished in all three of those contests. The potential rematch with Silva would most likely be Belfort’s last.
