Dana White Comments On Frankie Edgar’s ‘Insane’ Injury

Jose Aldo and the UFC haven’t always had the best relationship, but the former featherweight champion is currently on UFC President Dana White’s good side. Jose Aldo and the UFC haven’t always had the best relationship, but the former featherweight champion is currently on UFC President Dana White’s good side.

After Frankie Edgar suffered an injury just a few weeks ago that forced him out of his scheduled title fight with Max Holloway at this weekend’s (Dec. 2, 2017) UFC 218 from Detroit, Michigan, Aldo, who was slated to rematch Ricardo Lamas on Dec. 16, stepped up to accept the fight, and White was in favor of the decision:

“We’re going to find out how hungry Jose Aldo is and how bad he wants that belt back,” White said Tuesday in Las Vegas (Via MMAjunkie). “He’s getting this opportunity because Frankie fell out. Life is all about jumping on those opportunities. I actually liked it that Aldo wanted this fight like that. It’s awesome. I’m excited. I’m excited for that fight.”

Not only is White excited for the fight, but he also said that Aldo accepting the fight increased ticket sales:

“You know what’s funny?” White added. “So, the Detroit show is on par to sell out. We’re selling out. The show’s going to be a sell out. You know when you’re going to sell out because of how many tickets you have left and how many days. We put Jose Aldo on the card, and – (vanishing sound). Tickets. Yeah.”

Holloway and Aldo met for the first time earlier this year at UFC 212 in June when Holloway scored a third-round TKO victory. Now, however, the Brazilian will have a chance to reclaim the 145-pound title.

As far as Edgar goes, the former lightweight champion suffered a facial injury, and White found it ‘insane’:

“My question for Frankie – and I haven’t talked to Frankie yet, Frankie is in Russia or something right now, I think – but how do you break your orbital in training?” White said. “Unless it was a freak knee to the eye in wrestling or something like that.

“Who’s hitting you that hard in your training camp that you break your orbital? That’s insane. Anybody know the answer to that question?”

What do you make of the UFC President’s comments?

UFA 218 – Henry Cejudo Vs. Sergio Pettis Predictions

The sad reality is that there are a lot many fans out there that have unknowingly been complaining about the lack of top notch, high quality fighters in the flyweight division lately. However, if you are to consider the fashion and dominance with which these two fighters, Henry Cejudo and Sergio Pettis, have risen through the ranks, you will certainly understand why that argument is flawed. These fighters have not only been getting results, but have done so in a way which has been highly entertaining for the fan that wants to see some quality mixed martial arts action. And now, they come up against each other – you really can’t ask for more.

In terms of lineage, it does not get much better than what the pedigree that Cejudo has. Cejudo holds an Olympic gold medal in the sport of freestyle wrestling – how about that for silencing the complaints about the lack of flyweight talent? In fact, since his entry into the MMA after he concluded his freestyle wrestling career, he became one of MMA’s hottest new prospects.

On the other hand, Pettis has risen through some harder times. He had a hard time finding his footing when he got into the MMA as a hot prospect and a former RFA champion. However, a win against Chris Cariaso is what it took for him to build up momentum and confidence and he went on a four win streak and has looked solid ever since.

This UFC 218 bout is an already incredible fixture which is only made better by the fact that the winner here could go on to get a shot against the current flyweight champion – Demetrious Johnson. In terms of prediction, this one is hard to call, but Cejudo might have the edge considering his grappling expertise, we will have to go with Cejudo to win via submission.

UFA 218 – Eddie Alvarez Vs. Justin Gaethje Predictions

Justin Gaethje really shut his critics up when he debuted against Michael Johnson and won in a comfortable and dominant fashion. Justin Gaethje really shut his critics up when he debuted against Michael Johnson and won in a comfortable and dominant fashion. Previously, he had had trouble making quick work of opponents that were seen as underdogs and this is what raised questions in terms of whether he will be able to make it in the UFC or not. Well, so far so good.

For years now, he has been touted as one of the best fighters in the World Series of Fighting, now known as the PFL, he was and still is a very popular fighter who was known especially for his never give up attitude in the octagon and his hyper violent attacks when you least expect it. It also helped that he was an ex – NCAA Division I All – American fighter.

Gaethje aspires to be the new Eddie Alvarez. Alvarez is no stranger to the path that Gaethje has walked so far and the challenges he has lying ahead of him. In fact, Alvarez also has been through an identical path in the recent past. What fans love about Gaethje is the fact that it does not matter who his opponent is, Gaethje is going to come out swinging and he is really going to take the fight to them, be it an underdog or someone undefeated.

Focusing on Alvarez, he fought for several years in other promotions before being scouted by the UFC. He was known as the underground king of MMA and for most UFC fans, they only knew who he was after his loss at the hands of Conor McGregor.

While Gaethje is climbing up the ladder, and Alvarez is trying to steady himself, it is a fitting fixture which will make for a good fight indeed. For this UFC 218 prediction, we will have to go with Gaethje given his confidence and recent form.

UFA 218 – Tecia Torres Vs. Michelle Waterson Predictions

The Karate girl, Michelle Waterson, really made a name for herself when she convincingly defeated Paige VanZant early in their fight last year. This victory is what really made her popular with the fans, and all of Endeavor (which was WME – IMG back then) fell in love with the Karate diva. The demand for […]

The Karate girl, Michelle Waterson, really made a name for herself when she convincingly defeated Paige VanZant early in their fight last year. This victory is what really made her popular with the fans, and all of Endeavor (which was WME – IMG back then) fell in love with the Karate diva. The demand for the fighter was good enough for the UFC to take notice and the UFC certainly did not hold back. They made their intentions clear and pursued her the way in which they usually only do for established stars of the sport.

Waterson certainly has proved her money’s worth in terms of the viewership she attracts since her move to the coveted UFC and come UFC 218, she will be put to the real test now as she faces Tecia Torres in the octagon for what is going to be a fight to remember. It has not always been smooth sailing for Waterson in the UFC though, in fact, her debut did not go anything like planned at all as she was humbled by ex – title contender Rose Namajunas. This way, Waterson went from being in the form of her career to hitting the lowest of lows in her career in one single fight.

Given her popularity, you would expect that the UFC hand her a fight wherein she can bounce back, but it seems like the UFC may have lost interest in Waterson as they throw her away to Tecia Torres. Torres is not exactly a fan favorite, but she has always been consistent with results and always been one of the top few fighters in the strawweight division since she fought in the Invicta FC.

We cannot see how Waterson can overcome this challenge, she likes to strike, and Torres will out clinch her.
