Francis Ngannou’s Octagon return is on the horizon, and it’s against the stiffest competition he’s ever seen.

The Frenchman stands at six-foot-four and has a ridiculous reach of 83.5 inches. Ngannou has only lost once in his mixed martial arts career, dropping a unanimous decision loss in his second-ever fight. Each and every one of his victories have come in either the first or second round via finish. Of his 10 career victories, Ngannou has won six by knockout and four by submission. His last Octagon appearance saw him take home a first round knockout win over ex-UFC heavyweight champion Andrei Arlovski.

Ngannou has been viewed as one of the most promising heavyweight prospects today, and according to a report from ESPN’s Brett Okamoto, he’ll be taking on former K-1 champ Alistair Overeem at UFC 218 from Detroit, Michigan:

Overeem has had a great run in his MMA career as of late, previously racking up a four-fight win streak over the likes of Stefan Struve, Roy Nelson, Junior dos Santos, and Andrei Arlovski. That earned “The Reem” a shot at Stipe Miocic’s heavyweight title. Unfortunately for the Dutchman, Overeem suffered a first round knockout loss to Miocic and was forced to go back to the drawing board. He has since racked up back-to-back wins over Mark Hunt and former UFC heavyweight king Fabricio Werdum.

A win over Ngannou, who looks to be the most promising heavyweight prospect MMA has seen in years, would definitely propel him back into the title conversation. UFC 218 will go down live on pay-per-view (PPV) from the Little Caesars Arena in Detroit, Michigan on Saturday December 2, 2017.

It appears that we have our first bout revealed for the upcoming UFC 218 card.

Justin Gaethje has made it perfectly clear that he wants to be the next UFC lightweight champion. Although he only has one bout under his belt under the UFC banner, he will look to dethrone UFC lightweight champion Conor McGregor if given the opportunity. A title fight might be down the line, but he has his next fight already lined up.

Since making his UFC debut earlier this year, fight fans have been waiting for the return of the former WSOF champion. Gaethje is one of the best-kept secrets in MMA. He scored a victory over Michael Johnson at the finale of The Ultimate Fighter season 25 in July. Shortly after that bout, the UFC decided to set him up to coach TUF 26 opposite Eddie Alvarez.

According to a report from BJPenn.com’s Chris Taylor, a date has been made for the fight, which is UFC 218. Unfortunately, one of the negatives of this bout being added to the upcoming PPV (pay-per-view) event is the fact that it will not be the main event. No main event means no five round fight, which is a bummer considering that it should be a great fight that fans would love to see extended from three rounds to five.

Gaethje usually doesn’t need that long to finish his bouts. His last decision (one of two over his entire career) was back in 2014. On the flip side, Alvarez has gone to the scorecards a bit more.

UFC 218 will be held on December 2, 2017, at Little Caesars Arena in Detroit, Michigan. It should be noted that this event doesn’t have a headlining fight attached. If you recall, UFC President Dana White has already gone on record by saying that the promotion attempted to set up Jon Jones vs. Stipe Miocic for the heavyweight title. Obviously, that bout isn’t happening thanks to Jones’ latest drug test failure.

It’s well known by now about the drama that went down on Tuesday night.

It was announced that UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones failed an in-competition drug test for his title winning performance over Daniel Cormier at UFC 214 last month. Because of that failed drug test, the long-time UFC fighter has been provisionally suspended by USADA pending a full investigation by the California Athletic Commission.

UFC President Dana White spoke with the media after his Tuesday Night Contender series in Las Vegas, Nevada at the TUF Gym to talk about this latest Jones controversy. Before the suspension was announced, fans around the world wanted to see Jones take on Alexander Gustafsson again due to their first meeting being a great close fight that some thought Gustafsson should’ve won.

White revealed that the promotion was planning on having Jones challenge Stipe Miocic for the heavyweight title at UFC 218 on December 2, 2017, at Little Caesars Arena in Detroit, Michigan.

MMA Fighting’s Ariel Helwani has reported in the past that the UFC spoke to Jones’ team about the possibility of that bout despite the fact that Miocic’s team was not contacted. For years now, there has been talk of Jones moving up to heavyweight, which is something MMA fans have been wanting to see for a long time.

“Obviously, it’s brutal. It’s unbelievable. Unbelievable. I’m sure I feel the same way every one of you felt when you heard. We were talking about Jones fighting at heavyweight. Probably [against Stipe in Detroit].”

It’s pretty clear that White is disappointed in the champion that he calls “the best ever” and his self-destructive tendencies.

“You look at the potential that this kid had, and what he could have been, you know what I mean? Look at Conor right now. Look at Conor McGregor. Imagine what Jon Jones could be right now. How big he could be, how many sponsors he would have, who he’d be signed with that have never signed a mixed martial artist before. The list goes on and on about what could have been with Jon Jones. It’ll be a great 30 for 30 some day.”

The light heavyweight rematch that MMA has been waiting is reportedly being targeted for a pay-per-view card later this year.

According to sources obtained by Swedish MMA site MMAnytt.se, champion Jon Jones will face No. 2 Alexander Gustafsson in the main event of December 2’s UFC 218 from Detroit, Michigan.

The bout, if booked, would be a rematch of their scintillating razor-thin first match at September 2013’s UFC 165, one of two UFC bouts where one could say that “Bones” was legitimately tested (the other being his near-submission loss to Vitor Belfort which he ultimately won).

Jones of course just recently won back his long-held title from longtime rival Daniel Cormier in the main event of July 29’s UFC 214 from Anaheim, California, ending their three-year-long rivalry with a swift head kick and brutal follow-up assault in the third round. Jones beat Cormier by unanimous decision in their first fight at UFC 182, but then became embroiled in a controversial and disturbing set of legal and drug-centered trouble that saw his stripped of the belt and suspended by USADA.

Gustafsson, on the other hand, is only 3-3 in his last six bouts but has won his last two, including a jaw-dropping fifth-round stoppage of fellow former title contender Glover Teixeira on May 28. Two of those losses were split decisions to Jones and Cormier, and many MMA fans and media members still believe “The Mauler” won his first controversial fight against “Bones” four years ago.

UFC 218 will go down on December 2, 2017 from Little Caesar’s Arena in Detroit, Michigan.
