Decorated UFC champs Stipe Miocic and Daniel Cormier are set to earn some well-deserved big bucks for their heavyweight superfight in the main event of tonight’s (Sat., July 7, 2018) UFC 226 from T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

According to a document from the Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC) via MMAjunkie, heavyweight champion Miocic will take will take home $750,000 while light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier will take home $500,000. Neither fighter will earn a win bonus.

It’s a step in the right direction for the record-setting Miocic, who has had some well-documented issues with the UFC concerning his pay.

The co-main event for the awaited pay-per-view (PPV) event features a heavyweight slugfest between Francis Ngannou and Derrick Lewis, with Lewis taking home $130,000 to show and another $130,000 to win while Ngannou will earn $100,000 to show and $100,000 more to win.

The original co-main event was set to be a high-profile featherweight title fight between 145-pound champ Max Holloway and surging contender Brian Ortega before Holloway was forced out of the bout with concussion-like symptoms earlier this week. “Blessed” was set to earn $350,000 while Ortega was scheduled to take home $250,000.

As always, these figures do not reflect any potential pay-per-view revenue the main fighters may take home, bonuses, Reebok sponsorship earnings, or any other discretionary bonuses. They also do not include deductions for insurance, license, and taxes.

Daniel Cormier Suffers Concerning Fall At UFC 226 Presser

ANOTHER #UFC226 title fight could be in jeopardy:

Say it ain’t so. Please, say it ain’t so.

The fighters scheduled for the main and co-main events at this weekend’s (Sat., July 7, 2018) anticipated UFC 226 from T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, took part in a pre-fight press conference earlier today, and most of the focus was understandably on heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic’s super fight with light heavyweight Daniel Cormier.

But one day after featherweight champion Max Holloway was forced out of his originally scheduled co-main event with Brian Ortega, Cormier suffered a mishap that put yet another International Fight Week title fight in jeopardy (as has happened the last three years) by falling off the stage at the end of the presser.

Watch it right here:

There’s no word as of yet if Cormier is hurt, but the champ was walking with a noticeable limp after the fall.

If he were to be hurt and out of UFC 226 (please no), it would be the latest in a long and concerning series of cancellations for the UFC, which has seemingly seen a long and never-ending streak of high-profile headlining fights fall apart for one strange reason or another.

Holloway was forced out of a third fight in 2018 due to concussion-like symptoms yesterday, Yoel Romero was unable to win the title against Robert Whittaker at June’s UFC 225 when he missed weight and was given an additional two hours to make it but stopped after one hour, ultimately missing weight by 0.2 pounds, and of course, former interim lightweight champion Tony Ferguson was pulled from his oft-scheduled match-up with Khabib Nurmagomedov at April’s UFC 223 after tripping on a cable and injuring his knee fulfilling media obligations for the card.

Phew. That’s a lot of strange happenings, so let’s hope Cormier isn’t injured from this pointless fall.

Stay tuned fans.

We’re only two days out from this weekend’s blockbuster (Sat., July 7, 2018) UFC 226 from T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Although it lost the anticipated featherweight title bout between Max Holloway and Brian Ortega in the co-main event, the pay-per-view event still features one of the biggest fights in UFC history when heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic meets light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier for the title in the card’s featured fight.

Heavyweight knockout sluggers Francis Ngannou and Derrick Lewis will also meet on the main card in a match-up that is legitimately one of the most potentially explosive fights in MMA right now.

The fighters will appear in the traditional pre-fight press conference starting at 6 p.m. EST. Watch it streaming live here:

Stipe Miocic Details Why He Told The UFC To Shut Up

Stipe Miocic’s issues with the UFC continue.

The post Stipe Miocic Details Why He Told The UFC To Shut Up appeared first on LowKickMMA.com.

Stipe Miocic’s issues with the UFC have been well-documented.

Three days out from his awaited heavyweight title fight with Daniel Cormier in the main event of Saturday night’s (July 7, 2018) UFC 226 from Las Vegas, the UFC heavyweight champion has long been at odds with his employers over his contract to the point that the midsummer mega-event will be the first time he’s actually satisfied with his pay.

Part of that has to do with money, but a big portion of his publicly-stated discontent also has to do with the fact he’s felt slighted by their handling of him on more than one occasion. With three title defenses, Miocic ranks as the most decorated heavyweight in UFC history, yet he hasn’t always felt like he was treated as such.

He detailed one such situation at a media lunch promoting UFC 226 earlier this week (via MMA Fighting), proclaiming that the UFC actually called him about meeting Cormier two days before he was scheduled to fight previously surging bulldozer Francis Ngannou in the main event of January’s UFC 220. When they did, Miocic told them what to do with the suggestion:

“I told them, ‘shut up,’” Miocic said. “I got more things to worry about.”

Indeed he did, and he stopped ‘The Predator’s’ hype train in its tracks by handing Ngannou his first UFC loss via dominant five-round decision. Still, the champion was baffled at how the UFC could ask him to focus on another top-ranked challenge when he was tasked with the hardest-punching heavyweight in MMA history only days later:

“It had nothing to do with Cormier,” Miocic said. “Dude, leave me alone — I’m fighting in two days. You’re talking about how I’m gonna get hit by the Ford Escort power and you’re gonna come at me with this?”

He toppled that mountain, however, and the UFC was once again knocking at his door to discuss the Cormier fight the Monday after UFC 220, this time with an opportunity to coach The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 27 opposite the light heavyweight ruler. He let the first phone call that Monday ring, but talked with the UFC a day later to discuss business.

With his wife expecting their first child, he wasn’t thrilled about leaving to coach TUF, so he wanted to make sure everything was good with his spouse first and foremost:

“No, I didn’t want to do it,” Miocic said. “My wife is pregnant, I want to make sure it’s OK with her. She’s the boss. She’s carrying our child. I’m not carrying a child. She’s put a lot into it. I just wanted to make sure it was good with her, make sure it was OK for me to leave. Make sure it was right.”

Miocic closed by offering his hope that his wife didn’t go into labor during UFC 226, adding that it was difficult for him to consider that possibility while asking reporters present not to “jinx it”:

“I’m not gonna worry about it,” Miocic said. “My wife is a tough cookie. She’s the captain, as they say. She leads the ship. It’s gonna be hard for me. It’s gonna take a while for me to get over it, not being there. I’m doing it for my family, though. It’s not just I’m fighting. It’s also making sure things are taken care of.”
