Former UFC featherweight champion Jose Aldo has his sights on his next possible opponent.

Aldo has called out UFC veteran Jeremy Stephens for a fight. The good news is that this is a fight that makes sense from a booking standpoint and it appears that both fighters are on board for this fight.

The former featherweight champion recently conducted an interview with Brazil’s Combate News and during that interview, he noted that he would like to have this fight take place at the upcoming UFC 224 pay-per-view event.

“We’re trying to land a spot there,” Aldo said (transcript courtesy of MMA Junkie). “I was supposed to have fought in April; it didn’t happen. So we’re just waiting on the opponent. For sure,” Aldo said. “He’s a guy who asked to fight us. I’ve already sent Dana (White, UFC president) a message saying I want this fight. I think it’s a great fight, and I’m just waiting to hear back.”

The UFC 224 pay-per-view event is slated to go down on Saturday, May 12 in Rio de Janeiro. The main card will air on pay-per-view at 10 p.m. ET while the preliminary card will air on FOX Sports 1 at 8 p.m. ET and the promotion’s streaming service, UFC Fight Pass.

This show already has a main event set. It was officially announced earlier this week that women’s bantamweight champion Amanda Nunes would make her next title defense against rising contender Raquel Pennington.

Stephens has responded to Aldo’s challenge, and he didn’t use many words for his reaction. Although, he is not down to fight in Brazil, but rather at the UFC 225 pay-per-view event. He posted the following on his official Twitter account:

The UFC 225 pay-per-view event slated to go down on Saturday, June 9, 2018, at the United Center in Chicago, Illinois. The main card will air on pay-per-view at 10 p.m. ET while the preliminary card will air on FOX Sports 1 at 8 p.m. ET and the promotion’s streaming service, UFC Fight Pass.

As of this writing, Alistair Overeem vs. Curtis Blaydes, Claudia Gadelha taking on Carla Esparza, and Joseph Benavidez meeting Sergio Pettis have already been confirmed for the upcoming event.

The show doesn’t have the main event yet, but UFC middleweight champion Robert Whittaker recently took to his official Twitter account to lay down the challenge to Yoel Romero for their fight to take place at this upcoming pay-per-view event, which could serve as the main event.

Nunes comes into this fight on a six fight winning streak. She won the title from Ronda Rousey, which marked the final bout of her storied pro-MMA career, back in December of 2016 at UFC 207.

In her most recent bout, she successfully retained her title against Valentina Shevchenko by split decision in September at UFC 215.

On the flip side, Pennington is coming into this fight on a four fight winning streak that includes wins over Jéssica Andrade, Bethe Correia, and Elizabeth Phillips.

Her most recent fight came back in November of 2016 at UFC 205 when she picked up a win over former women’s bantamweight champion Miesha Tate.

Top prospect and rising contender Darren Till is making a name for himself in the welterweight division.

Now, after taking time off after a breakout performance in his latest fight, he is finally ready to return to action. The welterweight star hasn’t been seen in the Octagon since his big win over former title contender Donald Cerrone.

Till has been on the sidelines while he dealt with a recent battle with sinusitis earlier this year. In a recent interview with MMAFighting.com, he noted that he is looking to fight in the spring.

He actually has a fighter in mind as his next possible opponent and even a date and location. He wants to fight former UFC lightweight champion Rafael dos Anjos at UFC 224.

“Just because of his fan base there,” Till said, “and I’ve obviously lived there. I’ve got a lot of fans there, and I can speak the language. It would be a good sell in Brazil, if he’s willing to do it. I know he’s waiting for [Tyron] Woodley but Woodley doesn’t seem to want to come back.”

Even though there have been many who have spoken highly of Till, he has yet to fight in America.

“The Americans need to see the new breed,” he said.

Till doesn’t appear to be too picky about who’s next. Now, he’s just ready to resume his rise up the welterweight rankings.

He also noted that he would like to fight Santiago Ponzinibbio, Kamaru Usman or Stephen Thompson in the near future.

“Apart from Conor, everyone is anticipating my comeback more than anyone else,” Till said. “It will be big.”

Cat Zingano Says She Broke Amanda Nunes At Her Lowest Point

After 20 months out of action, former UFC women’s bantamweight title contender Cat Zingano will finally return to the Octagon at this weekend’s (Sat., March 3, 2018) UFC 222 from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. After 20 months out of action, former UFC women’s bantamweight title contender Cat Zingano will finally return to the Octagon at this weekend’s (Sat., March 3, 2018) UFC 222 from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

There, she’ll meet surging undefeated Ketlen Vieira on the opening main card bout, but Zingano has her eyes on a much bigger prize.

As the only female to beat women’s bantamweight champion Amanda Nunes in the Octagon when she stopped ‘The Lioness’ at 2014’s UFC 178, Zingano told MMA Junkie Radio that while Nunes has gotten better she has as well. From a personal standpoint, Zingano feels she was at her lowest in 2014 after dealing with a serious knee injury and the suicide of her husband but was still able to ‘break’ Nunes in their fight:

“She says she’s improved since then, but there’s no way I didn’t improve since then. I didn’t stop training, and that was my first fight back after blowing my knee. It was the first fight back after losing my husband and coach to suicide and having a completely different camp – and having no idea what I was going to do with myself now that there’s a new normal.

“Everything is different now, so to think that I haven’t improved since then, or that was even my best – that’s ridiculous. She had everything in her favor that fight. Everything in her favor in that fight, and I still broke her.”

There’s little doubt that Zingano’s win over Nunes, even in 2014, was a telling reminder of just how much “Alpha” possesses when healthy and focused on fighting, as do her previous wins over current title contender Raquel Pennington and former champion Miesha Tate.

The win over Nunes was her last, however, as injuries and long bouts of inactivity have kept from establishing any tangible momentum in the last few years. Still, with the women’s 135-pound division lacking in true top contenders, Zingano said her bout with Vieira is a potential title eliminator that could put her right back at the top with an impressive finish:

“This fight, they said it has potential to be a No. 1 contender fight,” Zingano said. “That could be one fight away; that could be two fights away. Either way, I’m focused on this fight, I’m focused on getting through this one in the most fantastic way possible. Of course I want those title shots. Of course I want to jump right back in to where I left off and do everything the way that I know I’m capable of doing. I also understand there’s a patience that comes with it and a believing in myself that comes with it, and taking little steps to get to the big steps.”

The words may suggest she’s looking forward to a title fight with Nunes or Pennington, but Zingano then shifted focus to Vieira, admitting the rising Brazilian was no joke while bringing the confidence of being undefeated to UFC 222:

“Ketlen is not a joke,” Zingano said. “She’s a great fighter, and she’s done good. I know what it’s like to be undefeated and to put that pressure on her and do everything I need to do to end up breaking her down from that feeling, I’ve got work to do. It’s a dangerous fighter that’s undefeated. But what’s next is still to be written.”

This weekend could mark the return of one of the division’s biggest stars, or it could mark her further decline, putting Zingano in yet another tough spot in her mercurial five-year career.

She’s been through it – and much worse – before, but will she be able to climb back up the mountaintop this Saturday?
