Megan Anderson Reveals Her Gameplan To Beat Holly Holm

Megan Anderson opens up on why she believes she can beat Holm.

Megan Anderson has the biggest fight thus far in her pro-MMA career in a few days.

The former Invicta FC featherweight champion is slated to take on former UFC women’s bantamweight champion Holly Holm on the main card portion of the UFC 225 pay-per-view event.

This fight marks the first non-title women’s featherweight bout in UFC history.

Anderson is on a four fight winning streak and this bout will mark her promotional debut with the UFC.

Anderson recently conducted an interview with Submission Radio to promote this upcoming fight and stated in this media appearance that she feels she matches up with Holm.

“I think I match up pretty well,” Anderson said of the upcoming bout against Holm (transcript courtesy of Bloody Elbow). “I think they’re gonna be very surprised at the changes in my game. And I think Holly is a very skilled athlete and she’s been doing this for a really long time and I can see where people who don’t know about Invicta or haven’t watched a lot of women’s MMA outside of UFC may not know who I am so they kind of jump to the conclusion, ‘Oh, she’s not as tough as Holly, she’s gonna be out-boxed or out this.’

“Well, I’m like, this isn’t a boxing match, this is MMA, this is Mixed Martial Arts, this isn’t one discipline. And Holly tends to really only just fight one discipline when it comes to her fights that I’ve watched in the cage, and that’s where I’m different.

I incorporate everything into my game, and people just haven’t seen that yet, and that’s something that we’re really excited to really show, that I’m not just a striker, that my ground game, my grappling is up there as well, and I see me matching up really well with Holly. I’m a lot bigger than her, I’m gonna be a lot stronger, I’m gonna be a lot longer and I’m just excited to showcase that.”

UFC 225 pay-per-view event is slated to go down on Saturday, June 9, 2018, at the United Center in Chicago, Illinois.

UFC featherweight champion Cris Cyborg recently stated in an interview that she would like to fight the winner of this fight between Anderson and Holm then take on current UFC women’s bantamweight champion Amanda Nunes before exiting from the UFC.

Anderson caught wind of these comments made by Cyborg and knows that she is a big threat to take away the featherweight title from her.

“I don’t really care what Cris says or Holly says or what this person says, because at the end of the day it’s just Holly and I in that cage, no one else,” Anderson stated. “And all I can control is me and my performance on June 9th, and the rest is all speculation. The rest is all, ‘What if this person wins, what if that person wins?’ That all doesn’t matter until the result of June 9th happens. So, Cris can say whatever she wants.

“You know, A: she’s fought Holly before. She’s fought her and she’s beat her, she knows she can beat her again. I’m unfamiliar territory for Cris. She hasn’t fought me. I’m young and up and coming. I’m improving with every fight, I’m getting better, I’m coming into my prime. I’m a big threat to her, so of course she’s going to say she thinks that the UFC is trying to set up a Holly rematch.

I’ve been underestimated and the least experienced in every single one of my fights, so what’s new? If experience won fights then I’d be on a losing streak, but I’m not (laughs).”

If there is a central question from Anthony Smith’s interview with Karyn Bryant Saturday, that question would be posed directly at Smith’s opponent at UFC 225, Rashad Evans: What happened to you, man?

Anthony Smith doesn’t ponder this because he believes Rashad Evans is not the same fighter on the outside; but rather he is questioning what happened to the fight inside of Evans:

“When Rashad was fighting Rampage, I remember thinking, ‘Someday, I want to be one of those guys. I want to be mentioned with those people.’” Smith began. “And Rashad’s fought Jon Jones, Forrest Griffin, Thiago Silva, I mean the list goes on. And then to see how everyone talks about him and just runs him into the ground…this isn’t the Suga that I know. He’s not even sticking up for himself. So now I find myself in interviews having to stick up for him. Like, why the fuck am I doing that? Where’s the Rashad that got into epic trash-talking battles with Rampage? And where’s the Rashad that got in Jon Jones’s shit and stuck up for himself?”

We have heard trash talk in just about every form by now. We’ve heard the insults, the predictions, the overconfidence…but this may be a first. Smith seems to be trash talking Evans for defending him. This would be like someone sticking up for a classmate after others were name-calling the student, but then calls the student a wimp because he couldn’t stand up for himself. Smith insists that he is not trash talking Evans, but is speaking from the heart on why this version of Rashad Evans is truly sad for him to behold.

“Just some of the stuff that he said…like, ‘My bags are at the door,’ and, ‘I see the writing on the wall’…that’s not the way this was supposed to go in my head. If you told me five years ago that someday I’d be fighting Rashad, this isn’t the build-up that I expected it to be.

“I want the old Rashad. I don’t want the mentally broken one.”

Smith wants more out of Evans. He even expects more out of Evans. His gripe is that Evans doesn’t seem to expect more out of himself:

“I don’t want him to focus on not losing. I want him to try to take me out. That’s the fight I want. That’s the one I’ve been preparing for. And I just hope that that’s the one I get. I’m just disappointed. This isn’t the Rashad that I grew up watching.”

We’ll see if Smith gets his wish Saturday at UFC 225…and if he should have let sleeping dogs lie.

Who do you think gets the victory Saturday? Anthony Smith or “Suga” Rashad Evans?

RDA Says Darren Till’s Time At Welterweight Is Running Short

Rafael dos Anjos has advised Darren Till to move up in weight in order to avoid more difficult cuts:

The post RDA Says Darren Till’s Time At Welterweight Is Running Short appeared first on LowKickMMA.com.

Former UFC lightweight champion Rafael dos Anjos is no stranger to difficult weight cuts.

After dropping back-to-back defeats at lightweight, dos Anjos decided to move up in weight and it has worked out for the better, as he’s won three-straight fights and is set to take on Colby Covington for the interim 170-pound title in the co-main event of next weekend’s (June 9, 2018) UFC 225 from Chicago.

Due to his experience, dos Anjos can relate to rising welterweight contender Darren Till, who missed weight ahead of his UFC Liverpool main event against Stephen Thompson last weekend. And although he won the bout, a video was later released detailing just how difficult Till’s cut was.

Because of this, dos Anjos expects Till to eventually move up to 185 pounds:

“I don’t see him fighting very long in this welterweight division,” dos Anjos told MMAFighting.com. “Every time you make weight, it gets harder and harder and harder. I’ve been there before. I feel like every time I made 155, it was getting harder and harder harder every time. That’s gonna happen to him and he’s gonna go to 185 eventually.

“He didn’t make weight, after all that,” dos Anjos said. “And we could not even watch the whole video, right? And he was 3-1/2 pounds over — off the extra pound. If he would fight for a title, it would be 4-1/2 pounds. He’s a great fighter, a young guy. But he’s going to go to 185 eventually.”

As far as his own career goes, dos Anjos recalled his troubling cuts down to 155 pounds, while confirming that moving up was the ‘best’ decision he’s made:

“After I made weight, I couldn’t stand up for like 40 minutes to one hour,” dos Anjos said. “I lied down on the ground, on the hallway of the hotel, by my room, by my room’s door. The guy said, ‘OK, Rafa, it’s time to make weight.’ I couldn’t stand up. I just couldn’t walk. But I did it.

“It doesn’t make any sense,” dos Anjos said. “I’m passing through this, getting dehydrated, almost dying to the next day getting punched in the head. It just don’t make sense. I’ve gotta make changes. I think it was the best thing I did.”

Would you prefer Till to move up and compete and middleweight?
