USADA Reveals Brock Lesnar’s Earliest Return Date

Brock Lesnar is back in the UFC! But there’s a catch.

The post USADA Reveals Brock Lesnar’s Earliest Return Date appeared first on LowKickMMA.com.

Brock Lesnar has ended his retirement from MMA (again).

The hulking behemoth was confirmed to be fighting newly-crowned UFC heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier after he made an in-cage appearance in the moments following “DC’s” shocking first-round knockout of Stipe Miocic in the main event of last Saturday’s UFC 226.

The news sparked off yet another set of questions about Lesnar’s ability to fight, however, as the WWE superstar still had at least some time left on the USADA suspension he received following his decision win over Mark Hunt at 2016’s UFC 200. The suspension would be long expired, but Lesnar ‘retired’ in December 2016 while it was still active, pulling him out of the USADA testing pool and onto its retired list.

Rumors swirled that Lesnar would return at November’s UFC 230 from Madison Square Garden in New York City, but based on news released today, that simply won’t be the date. A USADA spokesperson issued a statement to MMA Fighting confirming that Lesnar has indeed re-entered the USADA testing pool, yet did so only recently and will be eligible to fight again in early 2019:

“After receiving notice of his intent to compete in the UFC, USADA re-entered Brock Lesnar to the testing pool on July 3. With six months and four days remaining on his period of ineligibility, Lesnar will be able to compete on or after January 8, 2019, should he remain in compliance with the UFC Anti-Doping Policy.”

One of the UFC’s biggest-ever pay-per-view stars, Lesnar has also found himself in a hotbed of controversy involving performance-enhancing drugs. He was granted a conditional four-month waiver prior to his return in 2016 and then tested positive, overturning his win over Hunt to a no contest.

“The Super Samoan” sued the UFC, White, and Lesnar for multiple alleged charges involving racketeering, amongst others, in an ongoing suit. Lesnar’s overturned win over Hunt means that he has not officially won a UFC fight since July 2010, but the fact he will fight for the heavyweight title has sparked significant backlash amongst MMA fans in the two days following his over-the-top scene at UFC 226 where he shoved Cormier and called out Stipe Miocic and Francis Ngannou.

That’s the UFC these days, like it or not, and Lesnar has a monster fight with Cormier in his sights. Now, the hardest part of cashing in may be passing the drug tests.

Stipe Miocic Asks Daniel Cormier For Rematch

Does Stipe Miocic deserve a rematch with Daniel Cormier?

The post Stipe Miocic Asks Daniel Cormier For Rematch appeared first on LowKickMMA.com.

Stipe Miocic is still here, fight fans.

Despite becoming somewhat of an afterthought following the WWE-inspired scene involving Brock Lesnar that followed Daniel Cormier’s knockout of Miocic in the main event of last weekend’s UFC 226 from Las Vegas, the Cleveland-born firefighter remains arguably the most decorated heavyweight in UFC history.

After winning the title with a massive knockout of then-champion Fabricio Werdum in 2016, Miocic went on to defend the title with impressive performances against Alistair Overeem, Junior dos Santos, and Francis Ngannou to set the UFC heavyweight record for most consecutive title defenses. He was doing quite well against light heavyweight champion Cormier, too, until ‘DC’ floored him with a shotgun blast of a right hand to finish their superfight in the final minute of the opening round.

Miocic then became lost in the chaos of former champion Brock Lesnar’s appearance, who called Miocic a “piece of s***” despite not having a legitimate win since 2010 while his target was the most decorated UFC heavyweight champion in history. Unfortunately, that’s the UFC these days, and Lesnar will get to face Cormier because Miocic doesn’t move the needle like the WWE megastar. That won’t stop the former champ, who owned up to his loss with extreme class, from asking “DC” to run it back, which he did on social media today:

Cormier was quick to write back with his mutual respect, but after teasing an off-the-wall title fight with former UFC light heavyweight champion Shogun Rua earlier today, he didn’t agree to run it back with Miocic as one of the perceived final two fights of his career:

There’s no surprise that Miocic wants a rematch with the man who ended his record-setting title run, and based on his body of work, he’s legitimately one of the most deserving former champions in that regard. Many record-breaking champions like Anderson Silva, Georges St-Pierre, and even Joanna Jedrzejczyk got immediate rematches when they lost their respective titles in shocking fashion, although long-reigning featherweight champion Jose Aldo missed out on one with Conor McGregor under similar circumstances.

But there have also been UFC champions who never defended their belt once who got an immediate rematch, such as Cody Garbrandt, who will meet TJ Dillashaw for the belt at August 4’s UFC 227 after “The Viper” knocked him out last year. The bout will come during a time when the UFC bantamweight division has arguably never been more talented.

So there’s no set rhyme or reason for the way in which the UFC hands out title shots, except for the obvious tendency of them going with the fight that earns the most dollars. Because of that, it looks like Cormier will meet Lesnar at some point when “The Beast” clears up his issues with USADA (if he can), and Miocic could be left out in the cold due to the fact he isn’t and simply never will be a trash talker who moves the needle in a mainstream sense.

Right or wrong, that’s the fight game, folks. Should Cormier grant Miocic a chance to win back his title before he retires?

Michael Chiesa Claims He Almost Died From Botched UFC 226 Weight Cut

Michael Chiesa pushed himself to the limit in his UFC 226 weight cut.

The UFC can not institute the 165-pound weight class soon enough.

Michael “Maverick” Chiesa stepped on the scale for the UFC 226 weigh-ins last Friday (July 6, 2018) weighing 157.5-pounds, 1.5-pounds more than the lightweight non-title fight limit. As a result, before his main card bout with Anthony “Showtime” Pettis, Chiesa said he would be moving up to 170 pounds, win or lose.

Chiesa would go on to lose his second straight fight at UFC 226 when Pettis caught the TUF winner in a fight-ending triangle choke. But upon further review, losing the fight was perhaps a secondary concern for Chiesa, who realistically put his health in danger by attempting to cut so much weight.

Speaking with ESPN’s Ariel Helwani earlier today, Chiesa would detail just how difficult this weight cut was for him.

“I can’t emphasize this enough, Ariel: I seriously thought I was going to die,” Chiesa said. “Going through the first part of my weight cut, on Thursday, I really thought I was going to kill myself and I’m not exaggerating in the slightest.”

Chiesa has been dealing with an on again off again type foot injury, but he insisted his nagging injury had nothing to do with his performance, rather, he just pushed his body to the limit.

“Ultimately my body had nothing to give,” he said. “When you can’t do road work for a week-and-a-half, that’s really hard on your weight cut. I came into fight week at 175 pounds, and usually I come into fight week at 169, 168 pounds. It was just too much for my body to handle.”

“We cut weight for eight hours. We cut for four hours on Thursday night and I was up at 5 a.m. cutting weight on the day of weigh-ins [Friday] and my body had nothing more to give. I’m not exaggerating: I thought I was going to die. In the middle of the night before the Friday weigh-ins, I woke up and started having a panic attack. I broke down and started crying and was like, ‘I think I’m going to die.’

A dejected Chiesa would state he is moving up to 170-pounds, after some time to reflect “Maverick” isn’t sure where he will be competing moving forward.

“I was already in talks with people around me. Win or lose, after this fight, I think I want to go up,” he said. “A lot of people are trying to steer me to 170 pounds. I’m a big guy; people don’t realize that. There’s only one guy at 170 that’s bigger than me, and that’s Darren Till. I’m not a small guy. I can get up to 205 pounds and be athletic and be in shape.”

The talk of adding more weight classes continues to be a hot-button topic in the UFC. Chiesa is the latest in a long line of high-level fighters that would welcome the 165-pound class with open arms.

“If [the 165-pound weight class] happens, it happens. If it does, I welcome it with open arms. I’m a big advocate for it. If they add 165 pounds, it would be heaven sent. It would be a blessing to a lot of us guys.”
