Dana White Addresses UFC’s Decision To Release Yair Rodriguez

In an odd turn of events, Rodriguez is no longer part of the UFC and here’s why:

Yair Rodriguez is no longer a member of the UFC roster.

The rising prospect is out of a job after UFC President Dana White confirmed in a statement to the Los Angeles Times late Thursday night that Rodriguez has been released by the promotion after he refused to accept a fight that was offered to him.

So here’s the story, the prospect was offered to fight fellow prospect Zabit Magomedsharipov at the upcoming UFC 227 pay-per-view event.

When rumors of this fight came out, many people voiced their opinion that Rodriguez might want to consider an easier matchup after being on the sidelines for a year.

This decision from the UFC comes after White went on record by stating that this fight would go down at UFC 227.

In White’s statement, he claims that Rodriguez previously turned down an offer to fight Ricardo Lamas.

Rodriguez, who holds a pro-MMA record of 10-2 and 6-1 while under the UFC banner, was on a lengthy winning streak to kick off his start with the promotion that includes a dominant second-round TKO finish of former champion BJ Penn at a Fight Night event in January of last year.

However, he ran into his toughest challenge when he beat by former UFC lightweight champion Frankie Edgar at UFC 211 by TKO. Since then, he has not fought due to an injury.

“The guy’s off a year, rejects a fight with Lamas and then doesn’t want to fight a guy below him in the rankings?” White said. “He can go somewhere else. We have no use for him. He calls that fight fake news. This is real news.”

Cody Garbrandt: TJ Dillashaw Is A “Mental Midget”

Cody Garbrandt made it personal with his longtime rival TJ Dillashaw:

Former Team Alpha Male teammates-turned-rivals Cody Garbrandt and TJ Dillashaw simply don’t like each other. The two have engaged in trash talk ever since the lead up to their first fight at UFC 217.

Now, the two are slated to fight again at UFC 227, and the bickering has already started.

Garbrandt (11-1) said the current bantamweight champion is spoiled and hasn’t overcome real adversity during Monday’s edition of The MMA Hour (via MMA Mania):

“T.J. wants to go in there and talk all kinds of shit saying that I don’t deserve this and that, and he worked two years to get it back. He feels like he’s entitled because he’s been living with a silver spoon, getting spoon fed with that thing.”

“He’s never had to overcome any adversity. Hats off to him for being able to come back and get me in the fight, but (we’ll see) come August 4. He can talk all the shit he wants, I’m focused on my book doing well, hopefully it inspires and motivates people around the world.”

Since losing the belt to Dillashaw at UFC 217, “No Love” has become a father and written a book “The Pact,” and has relentlessly skewered Dillashaw (15-3) at every opportunity possible.

Garbrandt appears to be brimming with confidence leading into their highly anticipated rematch, yet still managed to slight Dillashaw in the process:

“He’s kind of a mental midget, he’s got to have those coaches around him, people like that are ‘yes men’ to fill his head. I’m excited for this fight.

“It’s (like he thinks it’s) going to be the Barao fight. I will tell you now, I am no Barao and he knows that. He knows I can keep it up from the first round to the fifth round, the way I whooped his ass like that. He is going to be in for a long night.”

Does Garbrandt have a point about TJ Dillashaw? Or is he just talking trash to a heated rival?

Early Georges St-Pierre vs. Nate Diaz Betting Odds Will Surprise You

The betting odds for Georges St-Pierre vs. Nate Diaz probably aren’t what you thought they’d be:

The post Early Georges St-Pierre vs. Nate Diaz Betting Odds Will Surprise You appeared first on LowKickMMA.com.

Yesterday the MMA world was bombarded with the news that former two-division champion Georges St-Pierre was rumored to be fighting fan favorite Nate Diaz at August’s UFC 227.

The bout is yet to be finalized, and it seems like somewhat of a far-off possibility based on the fact that the fight will supposedly be contested at 155 pounds, a weight class GSP has never participated in and one Diaz essentially left in 2015.

There are a whole list of reasons the fight doesn’t make sense, in fact, yet those probably won’t matter much based on UFC owners Endeavor’s recent strategy of focusing on the biggest over-the-top spectacle regardless of the future ramifications it may have on the division(s) and fighters involved. We saw that with Mayweather vs. McGregor last year, a fight which, despite producing huge short-term pay-per-view success that was shared with SHOWTIME Sports, essentially put the UFC lightweight arena in a logjam that it’s still attempting to climb out of.

St-Pierre vs. Diaz, if contested at lightweight, would only further complicate that mess. Don’t be surprised to see it go down regardless, however, and if and when it does, the early betting odds may surprise you quite a bit.

According to sports betting site Bovada via MMA Mania, St-Pierre is only a -200 favorite over +160 underdog Diaz, a surprising number considering the dominant St-Pierre handled Nate’s older brother Nick with relative ease using his wrestling at UFC 158. The youngest Diaz brother has had trouble with wrestlers like Benson Henderson and even Rafael dos Anjos in the past, so his chances to topple the all-time great St-Pierre, who last fought at middleweight and won the belt from Michael Bisping at last year’s UFC 217, would seem a lot less than two to one.

St-Pierre vacated that title shortly after winning it, citing a bout with digestive issues from the diet he used to fight at 185 pounds. He’s apparently got over those and is rumored to be cutting down two full weight classes to face Diaz.

Perhaps that huge cut is playing into the seemingly low betting odds, or maybe the faith in Diaz is a bit misplaced considering his track record at welterweight, where he’s gone 3-3 since 2010.

What do you think? Is Diaz being given too much of a chance against “Rush,” or are the odds right on for this reported ‘super fight?’
