Karolina Kowalkiewicz has issued an apology after losing her latest fight under the UFC banner in a fight that could’ve gotten her closer to a title shot.

As seen in the co-main event of the UFC 228 pay-per-view event on Saturday, September 8, 2018 in Dallas, Texas at the American Airlines Center, Jessica Andrade beat Kowalkiewicz by first round KO in a women’s strawweight bout.

Coming into this fight, Kowalkiewicz was on a two fight winning streak as she has picked up wins over Jodie Esquibel and Felice Herrig in her latest outings under the UFC banner inside of the Octagon.

This fight was widely regarded as a #1 contender’s fight and some gave Kowalkiewicz the edge because she does have experience fighting for the UFC title as she took on then-champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk at UFC 205 in Nov. 2016, but lost via a unanimous decision at Madison Square Garden in New York. Obviously now, she will have to go back to the drawing board to get closer to a title shot and pick up some more wins.

After the event, Kowalkiewicz took to her official Instagram account to issue an apology about losing the fight.

“Hi guys, just want to say thank you for your support and I’m sorry,” Kowalkiewicz said (transcript courtesy of MMAJunkie). “I’m OK. It wasn’t my day, it was Jessica’s day, so big congratulations for Jessica and give me some time and I’ll be back stronger. I promise you.”

With her being finished by strikes, she is likely medically suspended for a few months and won’t be seen fighting inside of the Octagon again until next year.

Darren Till Addresses Potential Weight Class Change After UFC 228 Loss

Till gave his take on his future at welterweight following this loss.

Darren Till addresses his future at fighting as a welterweight after suffering his first loss in his pro-MMA career and if he will make a weight class change as a result of it.

As seen in the main event of the UFC 228 pay-per-view event on Saturday, September 8, 2018 in Dallas, Texas at the American Airlines Center, Tyron Woodley was able to score a second round submission victory over Till to retain his welterweight title.

Till earned this title shot with the last win of his pro-MMA career in the main event of UFC Liverpool event that took place at the Echo Arena in Liverpool, England when Till picked up a unanimous decision win over Stephen Thompson. Before that, he beat Donald Cerrone.

With his history of having issues with cutting down to 170 pounds, there was some talk of this being his last fight at fighting at welterweight. However, it appears that this loss only motivates him more to make the weight cut.

“It’s down to (my coach) Colin (Heron), no matter what I say,” he said to MMAJunkie. “I’ll listen to him 100 percent. It just pisses me off that someone was better than me tonight. I was too relaxed,” he said. “I was too confident. I’m always confident – everyone knows that. But I was too, like, the job had already been done in my head.

“I wasn’t really warming up. I was just ready to go in there and fight. Maybe looking back, I should have been more aggressive backstage. … I don’t have the same ritual for every fight, and this time it cost me everything.”

“I am still going to be the greatest,” he said. “I know that. All the greats have lost, and that’s my first loss tonight. I’m still OK, but I’m just upset.” Later, Till added: “He’s not a better fighter than me, but tonight he was better. And it kills me inside, it does.”

Till appeared to make weight with ease for this fight so it’s likely that he has figured out what to do to make weight with no issues.

Nicco Montano Believes UFC Stripping Her Of Title Was ‘Completely Uncalled For’

Nicco Montano has given her reaction to being stripped of the UFC women’s flyweight title.

Nicco Montano believes the decision made by the UFC to strip her of the women’s flyweight title was uncalled for and sounded off in a statement. The big drama that went down on Friday involved Montano.

Montano vs. Valentina Shevchenko in a women’s flyweight title fight was supposed to be the co-main event of UFC 228 but that fight got nixed after Montano was hospitalized. This led to the UFC and its President Dana White making the call to strip her of the title.

Now, White has gone on record by stating that the promotion is working on finding Shevchenko a new opponent and that they would then fight for the vacant title.

Montano has broken her silence on the UFC making this decision and not allowing her to even make her first title defense as champion. She took to her official Instagram to issue the following statement on this situation:

“I want to say thank you to all my continued supporter, unfortunately my first time ever missing weight means the loss of my title that I’ve worked my *** off for. And if you ask me it’s completely uncalled for, there have been plenty other fighters who have not been punished for a lot more, unfortunately I’m not one to be running my mouth so I don’t bring in the big bucks.

I had stopped sweating early, my kidneys shut down, and I had an imbalance of electrolytes, my sodium levels were way too high. When I got to the hospital the doctor had told me that it was the best idea, that if I had waited even 30min longer it could’ve led to cardias issues. With that said I had no intention to drop out of the fight. I looked good at open workouts. There have been multiple occasions where athletes after the TUF show have been metabolically impaired. It take a little longer to allow yourself the time to bounce back to your proper weight. In my case it was that with the accusation of illness and injury.

I had asked for a fight in October knowing this and had some legit people on my side also asking on my behalf, however the matchmaker and whoever else only gave the September at to choose from. So with no other choice and with the internet backing a lying bully (Valentina), I was forced to accept the date or have the threat to get stopped anyway.

This was the only time I signed a contract the statements this egomaniac (Valentina) has said are completely false and nowhere near the truth. Her idea of the reality is so far fetched so the fact that she trained for me 3 times must mean a couple things, she’s obsessed with me and has too much time on her hands. Not only has she been disrespect and jealous of my efforts and accomplishments also blocking me first on Instagram during her first fight at 125, but the fact that she takes pride in kicking a person while their going through surgery and having their kidneys shut down truly demonstrates what a martial artist should not be!

I did everything I could to make weight in the amount of time offered to me, I had no choice but to. Luckily I have a documentary being made following this entire process and it will soon be available for everyone to witness themselves.

When you’re stuck between a rock and a hard place you stick up your dukes and get down to it and that’s precisely what I do and will continue to do.

The plan for now is to be able to live a healthy lifestyle for the longevity of my career and livelihood. Until I can confidently adapt my body and walk around at a lighter weight I will keep doing all that I can when it comes to making indigenous lives matter and will not be hushed in terms of the wrong doing that has been established, not only with my people but also with me.

Never have I experienced working with an opponent who is so heartless and disrespectful, you can absolutely guarantee I’m coming back to make my stamp and take back my belt.”

Montano won the inaugural flyweight title when she beat Roxanne Modafferi by unanimous decision at The Ultimate Fighter 26 Finale in December. However, she has not been seen in the Octagon since as she suffered a broken foot in that fight, which is the reason she has been kept out of action once she decided to undergo the knife and get surgery.
