Conor McGregor’s Bus Attack Still Has Rose Namajunas Traumatized

Rose Namajunas still can’t go out in public because of Conor McGregor’s Brooklyn attack.

Conor McGregor may be returning at October’s UFC 229, but the effects of his April Brooklyn bus attack that left Rose Namajunas traumatized still resonate.

The UFC women’s strawweight champion almost didn’t participate in her rematch with former champ Joanna Jedrzejczyk at UFC 223. ‘Thug’ Rose was in the bus that McGregor attacked with a metal dolly and saw the chaos firsthand.

“The Notorious” was aiming for his current rival Khabib Nurmagomedov, yet he ended up spraying broken glass onto other fighters. Ray Borg and Michael Chiesa were unable to fight due to injuries sustained.  Namajunas, however, may have been left with most lasting damage. The 115-pound champion reportedly suffered some severe anxiety.

That hasn’t subsided, unfortunately. Namajunas’ coach Trevor Wittman recently revealed on “Ariel Helwani’s MMA Show” that the champion still has trouble going outside:

“She doesn’t leave her house. It’s still there. She doesn’t go in public places. When you’re in a public place and there’s people everywhere, you’re going to be like ‘Oh my god, what could happen?’ Like if you’re involved in a 9/11 bombing, it’s gonna be hard to be in a city scenario. Every time you get in an elevator you’re gonna think of it.”

Wittman also called the UFC’s usage of the attack footage as promotional material as poor taste. There’s no doubt it will help sell the massive lightweight title fight between McGregor and Nurmagomedov at October 6’s UFC 229, but the fight was going to sell and sell big anyway.

Namajunas’ coach thinks it’s simply not classy to use others’ emotional trauma to sell fights. In today’s money-focused UFC era, that obviously doesn’t matter.

Namajunas was able to overcome her fears and defend her title against Jedrzjczyk at UFC 223. Her problems appear to be lingering on far past that due to the sheer veracity of the attack.

The UFC women’s 115-pound champ does not have a fight scheduled as of this writing. If she’s unable to go out in public for the time being, it could be some time before we see her again.

Khabib Nurmagomedov’s Father Reacts To Conor McGregor’s Insult

UFC 229’s main event is getting very personal.

UFC 229 will be headlined by a lightweight title bout between Khabib Nurmagomedov and Conor McGregor.

Although the rivalry between the pair is deeply personal, the build-up to the fight has been rather quiet. McGregor has fired off a few shots towards the Russian’s camp, but to no major response.

Last month, McGregor called out his opponent’s father, Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov, by naming him a “quivering coward.”

He has finally responded to the Irishman’s comments in an interview with RT:

”Mentally they can’t get (under our skin),” he said. “In that aspect we are standing firm.

“We are even letting certain things pass. But we are not forgiving anything. The cage and the fight are still ahead.”

Although McGregor is the biggest name one can draw in the mixed martial arts (MMA) world, Mr. Nurmagomedov seems more interested in other potential fights for his son:

“For the hype, for the money, to bury Conor’s era it is even better for us,” he said.

“But if we talk purely sportswise, we still want the Ferguson fight. I really want him to come back and defeat Pettis. The intrigue is still there, and the whole world is interested (in the Ferguson fight).

“It would be 11 and 0 Khabib [in the UFC], 11 and 0 for him. And the fight that hasn’t happened yet.

“Georges St-Pierre, who has never been defeated as a champion at 170 (pounds). He came back and took the belt from (Michael) Bisping at 185 (lbs).

“It’s always been a dream fight for me. I’ve been following him for a long time. He is a Hall of Famer. He showcased so much in this sport.”

Is Georges St-Pierre already making his way down to lightweight?

Some evidence has arisen that may support George St-Pierre cutting down to lightweight.

The former UFC middleweight and welterweight champion has often teased a high-profile bout with the winner of UFC 229’s Khabib Nurmagomedov vs. Conor McGregor. UFC President Dana White insists he’s not interested in it, but the dollar signs may be too hard to pass up.

St-Pierre has been out of action since he submitted Michael Bisping at last November’s UFC 217 from New York. He won the middleweight title but vacated it soon thereafter. “GSP” cited a bout with colitis due to the increased food intake he required to compete at 185 pounds. He’s since discussed returning at lightweight to win an unprecedented third belt, but nothing is confirmed.

Some evidence suggesting that may be true recently arose, however. St-Pierre posted a picture on Instagram of him looking decidedly smaller than the last time we saw him. Check it out:

St-Pierre simply looks like he’s lost a lot of weight since he last fought. Some of that could be because of his stomach ailment, yet he’s said he only wants to fight in only the biggest fights in order to make it worthwhile.

A fight with the winner of Nurmagomedov vs. McGregor is the obviously the biggest he could hope to book. It would tie up the UFC lightweight division even more after it only got back on track somewhat when Khabib won the vacated title at April’s UFC 223.

But in this era of money-focused super fights, there’s not much to support the theory that Endeavor would pass this up. And you know, Dana White said it wasn’t happening.

Stay tuned.

Former UFC Title Challenger: I Hope Khabib Rearranges Conor’s Face

This former title challenger is pulling no punches with his Khabib vs. Conor prediction.

The post Former UFC Title Challenger: I Hope Khabib Rearranges Conor’s Face appeared first on LowKickMMA.com.

A former UFC title challenger is rooting for Khabib Nurmagomedov to dismantle Conor McGregor in the main event of UFC 229.

That’s obviously because of his storied history with the undefeated UFC lightweight champ. Al Iaquinta met Nurmagomedov on short notice in the main event of April 7’s UFC 223. He was the feared wrestler’s fifth prospective opponent in the week. ‘Ragin’ Al’ was also supposed to face Paul Felder at the event, but was instead dominated by ‘The Eagle.’

Predictions ‘Rage’ On

That set up his highly anticipated match-up with McGregor. One top-ranked lightweight is picking McGregor to sleep Khabib, but Iaquinta feels differently. The Long Island-based slugger recently told MMA Fighting that Nurmagomedov should walk through McGregor’s feared knockout power and keep charging:

“The worst-case scenario, I think [Nurmagomedov] takes a few shots from Conor and just keeps coming forward. I mean, Conor obviously has the power to put him out, but I don’t know. Does he? I think a lot of people think he does, because he’s knocked a lot of people out, but Khabib is tough. He sees things, he’s got a little awkward style, which is different. It’s tough to adjust to, because it’s so different, standup-wise.”

That’s the question on everyone’s mind. Many are in agreement with Iaquinta’s stance that Khabib will simply impose his relentless pressure on “The Notorious.” That will lead to the ‘pretty’ McGregor giving up – at least in Iaquinta’s mind:

“I think he could just get after him. Get after him, keep the pressure on him. Conor, he’s quit before. He’s given up. Against Diaz, it gets a little later rounds. I think he’s a pretty fighter. If the fight is pretty and it’s going good for him … [Chad] Mendes took that fight on no notice. He had zero in the gas tank going into that fight. If it’s five rounds of that, I think Conor is finding a way out.”

‘Ragin’ Al’ then affirmed his desire that Nurmagomedov demolishes McGregor. It would obviously make him look much better. It’s also something he thinks will happen:

“I hope he does,” Iaquinta said. “It would look good for me — if he beats the **** out of him more than he beat the **** out of me on a day’s notice. It’d look real good. So, I hope Khabib f*cking knocks his *** out, makes him quit and rearranges his face like he says he’s gonna do. I think it’s gonna happen — I hope it happens.”

Quote: Conor McGregor Probably Sleeps Khabib Nurmagomedov

This top contender has strong expectations for this fight.

Conor McGregor probably sleeps UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov is a quote that came from one top contender while breaking down this fight. That top contender is Kevin Lee, who spoke about the upcoming fight at the UFC 229 pay-per-view event.

Lee picked up a TKO win in the fifth round over Edson Barboza in the main event of UFC Atlantic City (April 21, 2018). This event went down at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, New Jersey on FOX Sports 1.

Conor McGregor Probably Sleeps Khabib Nurmagomedov

Lee recently did an interview where he predicted that the former UFC lightweight and featherweight champion would win this fight by KO. He elaborated on it where he noted that Nurmagomedov is not a finisher.

“I think Conor probably sleeps him,” Kevin Lee told Submission Radio in a recent interview. “You know, the more I think about it and the more I get closer to it, Conor’s probably gonna sleep him. Khabib uses the same entrances. He’s a monster on top, I’ll give him that. Not much of a finisher up there. He got to a spot like with Michael Johnson where he’s practically begging Mike, ‘just give up’, like, ‘I don’t know how to finish you, just give up for me’.”

“He’s gotta do that round after round, after round, after round. And someone like Conor, you walk onto that left hand like how Khabib like to do, you know that’s a sleeper right there. So, more and more I’m pushing towards Conor, even though I’m not really liking the match-up for him. So, it’s a good fight.”

Staying Ready

Lee also made some headlines by stating that he is staying in fight shape in order to make 155-pounds. There’s a good reason for this as he wants to be the one that the UFC calls in case Khabib or McGregor pull out of the event at the last minute.

“I’m still gonna be staying ready, because now you’ve got four of the top lightweights. Three of those guys are pretty prone to pulling out,” he said (H/T to Bloody Elbow). “So I’m gonna stay sharp, I’m always gonna be training anyway. I’m just gonna keep my weight low and stay ready for any moment, because this is MMA. You never know what’s gonna happen. I match up really well with all those guys. That’s what I’m looking forward to.”

The UFC 229 pay-per-view event is slated to take place on Saturday, October 6, 2018 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. The main card will air on pay-per-view at 10 p.m. ET while the preliminary card will air on FOX Sports 1 at 8 p.m. ET and the promotion’s streaming service, UFC Fight Pass.
