There have been rumors flying around that Conor McGregor has brought in Olympic gold medalist Jordan Burroughs for his UFC 229 camp.

McGregor will have his hands full in the grappling department on October 6th with Khabib Nurmagomedov. The Irishman is going to need as much preparation as he can get to avoid getting taken down by “The Eagle.”

As for Burroughs’ rumored involvement, he’s an extremely talented 30-year-old 2012 Olympic gold medalist in freestyle wrestling. It’s been rumored that the pair has worked together in the past, but that has never been confirmed.

Recently, Burroughs took to Twitter to deny his rumored involvement in McGregor’s UFC 229 camp. Burroughs said he’s not helping McGregor for his fight with Nurmagomedov and is instead focused on his own World Championship pursuits in October:

“I’m not working with Conor. I’m attempting to win a World Championship of my own in October. I wish him the best of luck in his upcoming title fight with Khabib.”

McGregor and Nurmagomedov will main event UFC 229 from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, on October 6, 2018. “The Notorious” will challenge for the Russian’s UFC lightweight title.

Its been nearly two years since McGregor has fought inside the Octagon. He defeated Eddie Alvarez in the main event of the UFC’s first ever show from Madison Square Garden. McGregor knocked out Alvarez in the second round for the 155-pound title.

In his absence, McGregor has been stripped of two world titles (featherweight and lightweight). He partook in a money fight with Floyd Mayweather Jr. inside the boxing ring in a losing effort.

After some shenanigans in Brooklyn that led to his subsequent arrest, McGregor’s legal issues seem to be behind him. Now he can focus his full attention on making it to fight night and settling his personal vendetta with “The Eagle” once and for all.

Derrick Lewis Shares Update On Back Issues Heading Into UFC 229 Fight

Derrick Lewis has been battling through this nagging injury for sometime now.

Derrick Lewis shares the latest update on how his back has been treating him while he prepares for his UFC return inside of the Octagon.

Lewis has won eight of his last nine fights he’s coming off of victories over Marcin Tybura and Francis Ngannou at the UFC 226 event at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. Now, the hard-hitting heavyweight star is slated to fight former Bellator heavyweight champion Alexander Volkov at the UFC 229 pay-per-view event.

Derrick Lewis Shares Update

During a recent interview on The MMA Hour, he noted that he underwent a new treatment on his back a few weeks ago. As a result, he feels that his body is feeling up to the challenge of taking on another fight camp.

“This is my first time having them (the shots),” Lewis said. “I was taking magnesium, and magnesium was working for a while, but this last fight right here. It didn’t work at all.

“I feel good. I feel real mobile right now,” he added. “All of my fights, especially all of my UFC fights my whole career. I’ve never been in there without any kind of impingement and pain wrong with my back. It just amazes me that I made it this far with all the pain that I have to endure during all of my fights.

“We’re taking it step-by-step, day-by-day. We’re taking it real slow, because ain’t no way I’m going to pull out of this fight again. I’ve pulled out in the past and I ain’t planning on doing it for this fight here.”

The Fight

In order for this fight to go on then he has to be healthy enough to accept the fight. Once Lewis gets over the hurdles of that, he has a great chance to cement himself as a top contender in the division.

The UFC 229 pay-per-view event is slated to take place on Saturday, October 6, 2018 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. The main card will air on pay-per-view at 10 p.m. ET while the preliminary card will air on FOX Sports 1 at 8 p.m. ET and the promotion’s streaming service, UFC Fight Pass.

With this fight likely being booked in the co-main event slot, then many fight fans will be seeing it due to the Conor McGregor vs. Khabib Nurmagomedov main event.

“He’s a tough guy, he’s a long guy,” Lewis said of Volkov. “I really can’t stay in his kicking range or his reach, and stuff like that. I believe I’ve gotta push the pace and get closer to him and really get more strikes off than he can land on me.

“Hopefully it can be a dominating performance and put me right back in the place I was supposed to be in — be a contender, a real contender, and be fighting for the belt next.”

Kevin Lee Aiming For Anthony Pettis At UFC 229

Kevin Lee is aiming to fight Anthony Pettis at UFC 229.

It’s no surprise to see Kevin Lee aiming to fight Anthony Pettis at UFC 229.

Lee (17-3) is currently the No. 5-ranked lightweight in the world. Pettis (21-7) occupies the  No. 8 spot, just three places behind Lee. A fight between “Showtime” and the “Motown Phenom” actually makes a lot of sense.

According to Lee who spoke with ESPN on Monday, he suggested a fight between him and Pettis to be added to the UFC 229 card.

When asked how the UFC responded to the suggested bout Lee said, ” I think the UFC likes the fight”.

The “Motown Phenom” has been in the news as of late. A rumored Nate Diaz fight was hinted at prior to Diaz’ return being announced against Dustin Poirier at UFC 230. Then Lee tried to lure Georges St-Pierre back out retirement for a fight.

That fight won’t be happening. Lee understands it’s just business.

“I get his reason for not taking a fight against me,” Lee said regarding GSP. “I’m a big risk and not much reward. I get it. I’ll move past it.”

“That said, I kind of took it a little bit as disrespect. I took it as a little bit of a challenge, that he doesn’t see me as worth his time. I’ll make my point. If I have to show how good I am again, and Anthony Pettis has to be the victim of it, then I’ll beat the f— out of Anthony Pettis.”

As of this writing, Lee doesn’t have an official fight scheduled for UFC 229, however, things can change very quickly in this sport and often they do. Regardless, Lee wants the rest of the division to know that just because he hasn’t been doing as many interviews as of late doesn’t mean he has fallen off.

“I’m the best lightweight out there, for sure,” Lee said. “Not only that, but I’m getting better and better. I’m constantly looking to improve myself. That’s why I’ve even stayed out of the media for bit, I’ve been working on my skills. Whatever the UFC decides, I’m going to be ready to go on Oct. 6, ready to make that weight, even if they don’t find me an opponent.”

Despite being ranked No. 5 in the lightweight division, Lee says the UFC was pushing him to move up to 170 pounds. Lee thinks that move is to protect the promotion’s undefeated champion, Khabib Nurmagomedov:

“They said that just because they’re trying to push me out of the division,” Lee said. “They’re trying to keep me away from the Russian [Nurmagomedov] boy for as long as possible. I’ve been calling him out for years. I get it, they have a big market in Russia they want to push into, and I’m bad for that business.”

“They’ll try to spin it and say it’s about my health, but at the end of the day, if you put me and Khabib on a scale right now, I’m lighter than the guy. I’m lighter than a lot of guys fighting at 155.”

If the UFC grants Lee his wish and books the ‘Motown Phenom’ v.s ‘Showtime’ at UFC 229, MMA fans will win.

One of the most charismatic young fighters currently in the UFC is back. Hyped bantamweight ‘Sugar’ Sean O’Malley returns at UFC 229.

Initial reports surfaced last week that ‘Sugar’ would be returning to the octagon on Oct 6 at UFC 229 to fight Alejandro Perez. The headline is half true. O’Malley is back after signing a new four-fight deal with the promotion. He will meet Jose Quinonez on the PPV portion of UFC 229 from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

O’Malley indicated on ‘Ariel Helwani’s MMA Show’ that Perez wasn’t able to get medically cleared to compete for the bout. Quinonez (7-2) is riding a four-fight win streak. His last defeat came at the hands of the before-mentioned Perez at UFC 180.

Ever since earning his UFC contract on the first season of Dana White’s Tuesday Night Contender Series, O’Malley’s trajectory has been skyward.

The 23-year-old has made it look easy inside the octagon. O’Malley will look to improve upon that against Quinonez.
