Khabib Nurmagomedov’s Father Points Out Weakness In Style Of Conor McGregor

Conor McGregor is in for one of the toughest fights of his MMA career.

The post Khabib Nurmagomedov’s Father Points Out Weakness In Style Of Conor McGregor appeared first on LowKickMMA.com.

Khabib Nurmagomedov’s father will be a crucial part of the training camp of his son going into his next title defense against Conor McGregor.

The former UFC featherweight and lightweight champion is slated to challenge Nurmagomedov for the lightweight title at the UFC 229 pay-per-view event.

Nurmagomedov’s latest bout was the biggest fight thus far in his pro-MMA career and he had to go through some hurdles to make it happen. While trying to fight in the main event of the UFC 223 pay-per-view event, it went through three official changes. Those changes include the UFC attempting to book Nurmagomedov against Tony Ferguson as well as Max Holloway and eventually fighting Al Iaquinta.

Khabib Nurmagomedov’s Father Sounds Off

Nurmagomedov’s father and coach, Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov, stated in an interview that this fight is a mismatch against an undeserving challenger. Nurmagomedov believes he doesn’t think that McGregor is next contender in line for the strap. Instead, Dustin Poirier is more deserving of a title shot.

“I think Conor understands that he wasn’t the real champion at 155 [pounds],” Abdulmanap said to Alexander Lyutikov (transcript courtesy of MMA Fighting). “He only fought against two lightweights and one of them choked him out. When he took the belt, there were about six lightweights who were stronger than him.

“There are a lot of fighters who deserve a title shot more than Conor. For example, Poirier. He can keep a high pace, he tries to finish opponents. Poirier is the real contender.”

The Truth

Abdulmanap also broke down the fact that McGregor will need to work on his wrestling game for this fight, which is obvious. The interesting point that Abdulmanap made was the fact that he doesn’t think that there is one coach that can help him in time.

“Let’s put together the best wrestling coaches from Dagestan, Japan, USA, Turkey . . . even they will not be able to prepare McGregor for this fight in three months,” Abdulmanap said. “No one can help him. You can’t do that in such a short time. He needs to start studying it from the beginning. To improve his wrestling in several months, it’s impossible.

“[Conor is dangerous] for 8 to 9 minutes, no more. After the first clinch, Khabib will take him down. We will finish this fight when we want. We respect our fans. If they want to watch all five rounds, we will fight all five rounds. But after two rounds, he has nothing to do on his feet. After two rounds, he will not be able to do anything.”

The UFC 229 pay-per-view event is slated to take place on Saturday, October 6, 2018 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The main card will air on pay-per-view at 10 p.m. ET while the preliminary card will air on FOX Sports 1 at 8 p.m. ET and the promotion’s streaming service, UFC Fight Pass.

Dustin Poirier Predicts Khabib Nurmagomedov vs. Conor McGregor

One of the UFC’s top lightweights has weighed in on Khabib Nurmagomedov vs. Conor McGregor. Surging No. 3-ranked Dustin Poirier will return to action against Nate Diaz at November 3’s UFC 230. One of the UFC’s top lightweights has weighed in on Khabib Nurmagomedov vs. Conor McGregor.

Surging No. 3-ranked Dustin Poirier will return to action against Nate Diaz at November 3’s UFC 230. He could (should) earn a shot at the winner of UFC 229’s Khabib vs. Conor main event on October 6, 2018.

So “The Diamond” has a vested interest in the megafight, and he has his prediction ready as well. Poirier offered it to Luke Thomas on a recent edition of The MMA Hour:

“I’m kinda leaning toward Khabib. I just don’t know if he’s going to stop Conor or whatnot, but I’m thinking he’s going to get the victory.”

Nurmagomedov’s fearsome wrestling is the reason many are picking him to hand McGregor a second loss in the octagon. But ‘The Notorious” knockout striking is also the stuff of legends, and Poirier knows it. Their heated rivalry in 2014 was ended due to the Irishman’s scary striking when he floored Poirier in one round.

McGregor’s straight left hand may be the most feared weapon in all of MMA. Because of that dynamic, Poirier rightfully couldn’t count ‘The Notorious’ out:

“I mean, he has a huge chance,” Poirier said. “He’s got great timing, great judge of distance. We’ll just see if the takedown defense holds up and the cardio holds up. That’s all he has to do. The openings will be there, but he just has to stand the test of the wrestling and the conditioning, the physical part that Khabib’s going to put on early in the fight.”

The former lightweight and featherweight champion will have been out of the octagon for almost two years when UFC 229 takes place. Nurmagomedov, meanwhile, last competed at UFC 223 this April, winning the title in the main event.

Poirier doesn’t think that will be an issue. McGregor simply has to find his timing in his mind:

“It’s all a mindset, really,” Poirier said. “Once you get your rhythm down, your timing, everything else falls into place.”

McGregor and his ability to defend the endless takedown attempts expected to come his way should decide the UFC’s biggest fight of 2018. Many gamblers are betting on Nurmagomedov because of it.

The striker vs. grappler dynamic may be cliche but in this case, it holds true. Either man’s ability to impose their skillset could be the deciding factor in what may be the UFC’s biggest-ever fight.

Meanwhile, Poirier will be waiting for the winner.

Business involving Conor McGregor and Reebok just got shut down in Europe.

The sports apparel giant obviously banks on selling a large amount of the Irishman’s t-shirts and other clothing. That won’t be happening in Europe for the time being, however.

That’s because The District Court in The Hague ruled anything with ‘McGregor’ emblazoned in big letters was unsellable. Dutch clothing brand McGregor filed a trademark claim saying products with the fighter’s last name would create confusion.

McGregor clothing brand lawyer Remco van Leeuwen discussed the courting ruling and how Reebok refused to follow (via The Independent):

”The public would be confused into believing that the clothing made by Reebok for the Irish mixed martial artist and boxer comes from the McGregor fashion house. We asked Reebok to stop selling the clothing that would confused the public but they refused.”

Reebok faces a sizable fine of 250,000 Euros if they choose to go against the court’s decision. The ruling applies across the entirety of the European Union.

The McGregor clothing doesn’t even have a working website according to MMA Mania. It was once a prominent fixture on the European fashion scene. The company is supposedly planning on releasing a new line of clothing ‘soon.’

McGregor, meanwhile, will soon return to MMA action when he meets Khabib Nurmagomedov at October’s UFC 229. The fight is leading to a building frenzy in the MMA world. It could legitimately be the biggest fight in UFC history.

Reebok will definitely miss out on a large portion of sales in the fight’s buildup.
