Dana White Drops Teaser About Brock Lesnar Fighting Soon

Dana White also teased Brock Lesnar being cageside at UFC 230

Dana White drops teaser about former UFC heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar fighting sooner rather than later. Lesnar’s last fight under the UFC banner came back at UFC 200 in July of 2016 against Mark Hunt. This marked Lesnar’s return to MMA after an almost five-year retirement.

As seen in the fight, Lesnar won a unanimous decision that night. It was subsequently overturned when it was revealed he failed two USADA-issued drug tests before the bout. This led to Hunt filing a civil suit against Lesnar and the UFC to settle his grievances.

Lesnar had to enter into the USADA testing pool that forced him to be tested for six months before fighting again. If you recall, back at the UFC 226 pay-per-view event, the UFC set up a fight between Lesnar and Daniel Cormier. This fight was expected to be for the heavyweight title and going down in January.

However, that fight is in jeopardy of happening. The reason for that is due to Cormier making his next title defense against Derrick Lewis in the headliner of UFC 230. The expectation is that if Cormier can get past the hard-hitting star, then he would fight Lesnar next.

The UFC President recently went on record by stating that Lesnar might be cageside for the UFC 230 event. He also plans on having the former champ fight soon.

“Brock Lesnar might be in New York,” White told ESPN. “That’s not guaranteed, we haven’t talked about it or anything. But I wouldn’t be surprised if he called and said, ‘I’m coming to the fight.’ I plan on Brock Lesnar fighting soon.”

The UFC 230 pay-per-view event is set to take place on Saturday, November 3, 2018 at Madison Square Garden in Manhattan, New York City. The main card will air on pay-per-view at 10 p.m. ET. The preliminary card will air on FOX Sports 1 at 8 p.m. ET and the promotion’s streaming service, UFC Fight Pass.

Chris Weidman Says UFC 230 Win Earns Him Title Shot

Former UFC middleweight champion Chris Weidman believes he’s one victory away from an opportunity to reclaim the title.

Chris Weidman doesn’t believe he’s too far out from a title opportunity.

“The All American” will compete in his home state of New York next month (Sat. November 3, 2018) from Madison Square Garden. As he tells ESPN‘s “Ariel Helwani’s MMA Show,” one more victory will solidify himself as the next 185-pound title challenger:

“I win this fight, I’m fighting for the title,” Weidman said. “I was obviously close to fighting for the title before this fight, beating [Kelvin] Gastelum and finishing him.

“It was between me and him, who was going to be fighting [champion Robert] Whittaker. They decided to go with Gastelum.”

Weidman was initially booked to rematch Luke Rockhold at UFC 230. Rockhold was the first man to ever defeat Weidman in MMA competition. The American Kickboxing Academy (AKA) product finished Weidman in the fourth-round of their UFC 194 meeting back in 2015 via TKO. That marked the beginning of a three-fight losing skid for Weidman.

He picked up his first victory since May of 2015 in July last year when he submitted Kelvin Gastelum. However, a hand injury forced Weidman to be sidelined for over a year. Now, Weidman is ready to get back into the cage, but with an injury forcing Rockhold off UFC 230, Weidman has received a new opponent.

Weidman will now fight jiu-jitsu ace Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza in what will likely be UFC 230’s co-main event.

Daniel Cormier Postponed WWE Audition For UFC 230 Fight

It looks like UFC heavyweight and light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier is already planning for life after the Octagon.

Daniel Cormier seems to already have plans in place for his life after mixed martial arts (MMA).

“DC” has been very vocal about planning on retiring from MMA in 2019. He will fight Derrick Lewis in the main event of UFC 230 next month (Sat. November 3, 2018). It will be Cormier’s first UFC heavyweight title defense of his career. Per a report from Dave Meltzer of Wrestling Observer Radio, FOX is interested in retaining Cormier after their relationship with the UFC is finished.

The UFC will begin airing on ESPN next year, ending their longtime broadcasting deal with FOX. In turn, WWE has signed over the broadcasting rights to their SmackDown Live program to FOX. It’s reported that FOX would like to have Cormier as part of the program’s commentary team to give it a more “sporty” vibe.

Recently, Cormier spoke to reporters at a UFC 230 media event. He revealed that he actually postponed a WWE audition for his fight with Lewis at Madison Square Garden (via MMA Fighting):

“If I didn’t have this fight, I have been talking to the WWE, because they wanted me to go in and do an audition as a member of the commentary team,” Cormier said.

“That was my private little thing. But because of the fight, I had to push it back. So there might be some DC in WWE shit coming.”

As for his responsibilities as a UFC commentator, Cormier doesn’t plan on stepping away from the broadcast booth. Should he sign with WWE, Cormier said he never wants to leave his “home” in the UFC:

“[WWE is] new. It’s something new, right? This is home. Over there is new. And most times, new is fun and exciting. But I love being home. This is my place. I love the UFC.”
