Dana White Details Recent Conversation With Conor McGregor

Dana White reveals what was said between him and Conor McGregor in a conversation last week.

During last night’s (Sat. November 3, 2018) post-UFC 230 press conference, UFC president Dana White answered questions from the media.

Of course, one of those questions was about Conor McGregor, who had nothing to do with UFC 230. McGregor was defeated in his Octagon return last month at UFC 229 by Khabib Nurmagomedov. Khabib submitted the Irishman in the fourth round of their lightweight title contest in Las Vegas. Following the loss, McGregor has already expressed his interest in an immediate rematch.

Many have been wondering what will actually be next for McGregor. If a rematch with Khabib doesn’t happen, McGregor has already said he’s willing to face the next in line. White revealed that he actually spoke to McGregor last week in regards to his Octagon return:

“Conor and I talked for an hour last week,” White revealed. “Typical Conor. ‘I would love an immediate rematch again, but I’ll fight whoever I gotta fight to get back to him if that’s not the case.’”

Due to the lopsided nature of his fight with Khabib, a rematch for McGregor doesn’t make much sense. Of course, the fight would make financial sense for the UFC, especially after the post-fight melee between both teams.

With that being said, it wouldn’t come as a complete shock if Khabib vs. McGregor II was next nonetheless. Should McGregor face the “next in line” instead, that would potentially open up the door to a ton of other interesting opportunities.

Chris Weidman was up on the judges’ scorecards heading into the final round against Jacaré Souza at UFC 230.

Weidman and Souza went to war in Madison Square Garden giving fans one of the more memorable moments of the night. It, however, would not be the homecoming “The All-American” had hoped for, as Souza got the better of the former champ in the third round (watch it here).

Still, Weidman looked fantastic, albeit it in a losing effort. The judges agreed as we can now confirm from their scorecards (via MMA Fighting):

Weidman will now go back to the drawing board with four losses in his last five fights. It could be argued he was winning every single one of those fights until he wasn’t. This one was definitely in his grasp despite it being a back-and-forth battle.

As for Souza, he could finally get the UFC title shot that has eluded him for years.

UFC President Dana White had some high praise for “champ champ” Daniel Cormier after his submission win over Derrick Lewis in the main event of UFC 230 (highlights) last night (Sat. November 3, 2018) from New York.

Cormier successfully defended his heavyweight title in the main event of UFC 230. “DC” submitted Lewis with a rear-naked choke in the second round. In his post-fight interview, Cormier showed a ton of charisma and called out Brock Lesnar.

He has been a great ambassador for the sport, and Dana White has taken notice. The UFC boss was asked if he thinks the former Olympian is the kind of person who could be the next UFC president at the post-fight press conference. Here’s what White had to say:

“Oh, definitely,” White said. “You know, if you look at the – when we do the promos now, he’s one of the big guys now that you see in the promos.

“Breaking down fights, talking about fights, whether he’s at the desk at FOX or he’s calling the fights for us. Whatever he does, the guy is incredible. He can do anything. The guy can literally do anything.

“I saw him doing an interview. Actually I posted one of the interviews he did with the media the other day, talking about how Derrick changed his life and ‘this guy isn’t going to fool me.’ I was just blown away and impressed by the interview.”

Cormier’s next Octagon appearance is presumed to be his last. “DC” said his next fight in the Octagon will be his last, and that fight will likely be against Lesnar.

Once Lesnar fulfills his obligations to the United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA), that fight will be ready to go in early 2019.
