Anthony Pettis hasn’t had a win streak since 2014. That didn’t change last year when he fought Nate Diaz at 170 pounds in the UFC 241 co-main event.

Pettis was bested by the Stockton native after three rounds of fighting, and was nearly finished in the contest as well. Now, Pettis is gearing up to make his return to action at lightweight against Carlos Diego Ferreira. The action all goes down from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada on January 18 at UFC 246.

“Showtime” spoke to UFC News prior to the matchup, and was asked about his loss to Diaz last August. Pettis admits that he was “a bit down” after the defeat, but is ready to bounce back next week. (H/T MMA Junkie)

“I don’t make excuses,” Pettis said. “Diaz fought his ass off, great fight. I hit him with some big shots, he took them. I did get a little down after the Diaz fight, like, ‘What the heck’s next,’ and, ‘What the heck is happening,’ and I just went back to having fun. I’m blessed.

“I’m blessed to come in here and do this job, and it’s not like I get paid more to be on the main event or co-main from these guys, so for me, it’s like, whoever’s next is next.”

Now, he’ll take on Ferreira, who will certainly test Pettis’ ground game should the contest find its way to the mat. But with submission wins over the likes of Michael Chiesa and Charles Oliveira, perhaps Pettis isn’t too worried about the grappling exchanges after all.

What do you think about Pettis’ comments on his Diaz loss?

Khabib Nurmagomedov Hopes Daniel Cormier Fights Stipe Miocic Again And Retires

Daniel Cormier’s recent loss hurt everyone at American Kickboxing Academy, including UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov.

Cormier appeared to be on his way to winning his UFC 241 rematch with Stipe Miocic earlier this month. However, Miocic persevered and went on to knock Cormier out in the fourth round to regain the heavyweight title.

Things were made worse when Cormier’s father passed away a few days later. It only added to what were a couple of days to forget for everyone at AKA.

“When DC loses, it was a very sad moment for us,” Nurmagomedov said during the UFC 242 media conference call (via MMA Fighting). “Same time, Cain Velasquez lost his mother and after a couple of days, DC lost his father. It was a little bit hard week for all AKA team but it is what it is. When God wants something, nobody can change this. Losing the belt is nothing when you lose your father or mother. When you lose belt, of course DC is sad but when you lose your father, it’s completely different.

“We feel bad for him but we know how DC is a competitor, how DC is strong. I want to wish him good luck. We just talked with him a couple of days ago. We talked with him about my fight, we talk about his fight, about his father, but I just try to give him good energy. Right now he’s having a hard time in his life but time changes everything. I know he’s going to be good.”

Many wondered if Cormier would ponder retirement following the loss. For Nurmagomedov’s part, he hopes “DC” decides against it and fights Miocic one more time.

“I really want him to fight with Stipe Miocic rematch and finish his career,” Nurmagomedov added. “This is what I want.

“I don’t know about his plan but honestly I want him to fight maybe February or March, fight with him last fight and then finish.”

What do you think Cormier will do?

The emotions always run high when Daniel Cormier loses and UFC 241 was no different.

Cormier was dominating Stipe Miocic for much of their heavyweight title headliner earlier this month. However, Miocic started going after the body of “DC” much more in the fourth round and it paid dividends. He eventually finished Cormier to regain his heavyweight title.

For Cormier, it was just a second official loss in his career and while he didn’t cry like before, the defeat was still hard to take for the former heavyweight champion. A new video has surfaced showing Cormier backstage with his family with UFC president Dana White consoling him:

“It was an incredible fight, an incredible fight, incredible,” White said first.

“I was winning the fight on all the cards,” Cormier responded. “On every f*cking card I was winning. I was winning all three rounds on two of them. I’m a f*cking idiot.”

“Why are you an idiot?” White asked. “Listen man, Stipe came to f*cking win. That dude was in great shape, he kept coming forward, you kept coming forward. You don’t see heavyweight fights like that where two f*cking monsters just keep coming forward and f*cking blasting each other the way that you were. It was an incredible fight. I know how you are and how competitive you are. You’re the f*cking man, dude.”

Cormier’s Competitive Nature

After White left, Cormier had his face in his towel while his family looked on before talking about why his competitive nature is both a gift and a curse:

“I’m a competitive guy. It’s my gift and my curse,” Cormier added. “You know like, by not accepting loss it makes you ensure you won’t do it very often. I think that’s what makes me so good at stuff, but also what makes the emotion run so freely whenever it doesn’t go the right way.”

Cormier then stated he’s open to a rematch but will have to discuss it with his team and family first.

Last week’s UFC 241 pay-per-view (PPV) event was one of the Las Vegas-based promotion’s biggest of the year.

Several high-profile fights took place, and several high-profile fighters were in attendance at cageside. One of those fighters was none other than interim 170-pound champion Colby Covington. UFC President Dana White recently noted that he had to settle down several fighters seated near “Chaos,” who wanted to try and fight the controversial star.

Speaking to MMA Fighting in a recent interview, Covington discussed the matter. First, he touched on how many boos he received from the jam-packed California crowd.

“It was amazing,” Covington said. “I loved it, man. All these fighters, they can’t even get a pop, they can’t even get people to cheer for them, they can’t even get 500 people to cheer. I had every single person direct their focus from the pay-per-view (PPV) of the UFC on me walking out and sitting front row.

“They didn’t care about the fights, they cared about the greatest fighter in the world, Colby “Chaos” Covington was in the building. So, I’m a proud man, man. I got all these people up in their feelings all emotional. But last time I checked, this UFC doesn’t stand for Ultimate Feelings Championship, it stands for Ultimate Fighting Championship.”

In regards to White saying there was quite a bit of a ruckus cageside because of Covington, “Chaos” noted that his fellow fighters should have acted professional and not like “little kindergarten kids.”

“Yeah, it’s embarrassing, man,” Covington said.” We’re supposed to be professionals, and all these guys want to act like street thugs. They want to fight in the crowd but they don’t want to fight in the Octagon and make millions of dollars. So, it’s pathetic man. Like Dana White said, they’re like little kindergarten kids, man.

“Own up, be a professional, don’t get so salty, don’t get in your feelings. Just because you’re jealous that I’m making more money than you, just because you’re jealous I’m winning every fight and you can’t stop me, don’t be jealous of that. There’s not very much to clarify, you know. My boy Jorge Masvidal, he had my back, he was watching my six. He was like three or four rows back.

“I was front row, you know, because they put the champ front row, obviously. I was trying to get my boy Jorge to the front row but he’s got to earn his way up there.”

What do you make of Covington’s take on what happened cageside at UFC 241?
