Fans were not happy with the way Jorge Masvidal vs. Nate Diaz ended at UFC 244 last night (Sat. November 2, 2019). Masvidal and Diaz went three full rounds in which “Gamebred” was dominating things on the feet; rocking Diaz, dropping him several times, and being up on the judges’ scorecards heading into the fourth round.

However, Diaz had suffered a bad cut on his eyebrow, as well as another nasty gash just under his eye. The doctor stepped in to take a look at the cuts, and determined it was too bad to allow Diaz to continue fighting. Masvidal was awarded the TKO victory due to a Doctor Stoppage, and declared the Baddest Mother F*cker in the game.

UFC president Dana White expressed little to no interest in a rematch given how dominant Masvidal was. However, the Miami native is in agreement with Diaz that they need to run it back – he’s just unsure when that will happen. (H/T MMA Junkie)

“I’m the most competitive person this whole (expletive) company has ever seen,” Masvidal said. “I don’t want nothing to take my greatness, to say some guy tripped on a pebble and that’s how I beat him. That’s not me. I want to end them, I want to send them off to another dimension and I respect the dude but that’s the type of artwork I like to do. I didn’t get him on this one.

“Are we going to rematch tomorrow or next week? I don’t know. But it will happen at some point. I’m open to the money and he’s a money fight. If Canelo (Alvarez) wants to get his ass kicked I’ll take that fight. I’m just here to get the biggest checks possible. But Nate is in the future for a fact. If we’re doing it the next year or the year after that, but it’s going to happen.”

Many believe Masvidal was starting to slow down in the third round before the stoppage, and Diaz was just getting ready to get going. But the American Top Team (ATT) product disagrees.

“As far as painting my Picasso, I almost got to do it,” Masvidal said. “I heard a lot of comments, I read a lot of media stuff, I heard a lot of people saying the later the fight goes or when it goes to the ground in certain situations I would be outworked and outclassed. Not happening.

“I want somebody to pull up a fight that I’ve faded in the fourth or the fifth round. That’s not going to happen. What happened in the third was just sign to keep happening in the fourth and in the fifth. That’s exactly how we saw the fight playing out. We touch him up on the chin, if he’s still there when we touch him up n the chin then we’ll go to the body, we’ll win the wrestling scrambles, we’ll win the clinch work and he’ll get tired from the damage we’re putting out.”

Do you think a rematch between Masvidal and Diaz will ever happen?

Dana White: MGM Called To Ask If They Can Play Masvidal vs. Diaz at Canelo vs. Kovalev

Last night (Sat. November 2, 2019) was huge for combat sports fans. The UFC 244 pay-per-view (PPV) card, arguably the most stacked of the year thus far, took place from Madison Square Garden.

Also, Canelo Alvarez jumped up to light heavyweight to challenge Sergey Kovalev. However, prior to the two shows starting, DAZN announced that they wouldn’t start their Alvarez vs. Kovalev main event until after the UFC 244 main event between Masvidal and Diaz concluded. However, the DAZN card’s co-main event didn’t end until halfway through the UFC 244 co-main event between Darren Till and Kelvin Gastelum.

This would mean a lengthy intermission for both DAZN viewers at home, as well as those live in attendance. So, the MGM Grand called up UFC president Dana White to ask if they could play the Masvidal vs. Diaz fight for its restless crowd. White explained the situation in the UFC 244 post-fight press conference. (H/T Bloody Elbow)

“So we were sitting there, and MGM called and said that. ‘you guys are halfway through your co-main event right now,” White said. “People are losing their minds here,’ or whatever. ‘Can we show the Diaz fight at the MGM?’”

“And I was just like, ‘Holy sh-t! This is crazy! This is getting crazier by the minute!’ I woke up and dreamed all this, that it could happen,” he continued. “It was nuts. And of course, we said yes, and they did and wow.”

White then took the opportunity to take a shot at Golden Boy Promotions promoter and newfound enemy Oscar De La Hoya, who the UFC boss called a “scumbag,” amongst other things.

“They’re not showing my main event at their cards because somebody won and somebody lost,” White said. “It’s a much bigger picture than that. And you guys know how I am or whatever, I f—ng hate Oscar De La Hoya. I hate this guy. He’s a scumbag, he’s a snake. And I’ve told him not to go on this night, he did what he wanted to do, and here we are.

“I respect Canelo, and I respect all the other fighters and the guys who participate in the sport of boxing,” White added. “And we got it worked out yesterday to where fans could see both fights. It’s a crazy, crazy thing for me.”

What do you think about White allowing the MGM Grand to play Masvidal vs. Diaz at Canelo vs. Kovalev?

Jorge Masvidal maintains that Conor McGregor would be no match for him.

Masvidal made it three victories in a row following his TKO (doctor stoppage) win over Nate Diaz in the UFC 244 headliner on Saturday night. Despite the controversial nature of the stoppage, “Gamebred” was dominating proceedings for the entirety of the 15 minutes and was the deserving winner.

While there are calls for a rematch, many feel Masvidal should get a title shot next. Another possibility is another lucrative fight with Conor McGregor. But as he’s mentioned for a while, Masvidal believes things would not end well for the Irishman if they faced each other:

“You know what the f*ck I’ll do to that little dude,” Masvidal said at the post-fight press conference. “I’ll f*ck that little guy up. He’s a f*cking midget. Dana White, president of this motherf*cking company said I’m too much man for him. I get it why people want to see him hurt for the stunts he’s been pulling. But he don’t want this shit.

“He’s just talking so he gets his name out there. He was cheering for Nate. … You see he punches old people in the face because those are fights he could win. He don’t want this sh*t. … You can’t get that dude to sign the paper.”

It looks like McGregor is fighting Donald Cerrone in his comeback anyway. But a fight with Masvidal would certainly be an exciting one down the line.

Nate Diaz wants a rematch with Jorge Masvidal — however, he’s not holding his breath.

Diaz and Masvidal collided for the BMF title in the main event of UFC 244 on Saturday night. It was “Gamebred” who dominated proceedings throughout the fight as he dropped Diaz twice and also opened multiple cuts which left him bloodied.

That would lead to the end of the fight as just before the start of the fourth round, the doctor controversially put an end to the fight due to a cut near Diaz’s eye. Some have called for a rematch while others believe Masvidal was going to win regardless.

UFC president Dana White, in particular, is not too big on the idea of the rematch. And while Masvidal was open to running things back, Diaz is well-aware that he may not get a rematch:

“If you’re the baddest motherf*cker, you’re going to take that and win? It’s just like when I fought Conor,” Diaz said at the post-fight press conference. “It was a win, it was fair game. But I wasn’t finished, he knows I wasn’t finished. I was ready to rock. That’s my plan. That’s my next move. I would love to run it back. That’s the only thing I want to do.

“But I can already see the f*ckery coming. I know how this game works. I give all the rematches and make names for these people. I believe I was responsible for this whole shit. I brought the President. Straight up. I believe it’s fair and hopefully they don’t throw a bunch of money and clout Jorge’s way to do something else.”

Despite the way the contest ended, Diaz still has respect for Masvidal. However, he maintained that he’s coming for him.

“He deserves everything he gets. He’s a great fighter, been around for a long time. … Jorge Masvidal, I’m coming for you. That’s my plan from here on out.”

Do you want to see a rematch? Do you think Diaz will get one?
