With negotiations for a title fight between Kamaru Usman and Colby Covington breaking down, the UFC seems to be going in a different direction.

According to ESPN’s Ariel Helwani, the UFC is now exploring the possibility of having Jorge Masvidal face Usman at Madison Square Garden this November. However, based on a recent Tweet from Masvidal, things don’t seem to be going well on that front either.

Helwani adds that the UFC has also discussed the possibility of having Nate Diaz vs. Masvidal at MSG. However, those talks haven’t gotten very far.

With several different matchups being discussed, it sounds like the Las Vegas-based promotion could be trying to play hardball with several of the 170-pound division’s top stars. Usman, Masvidal, Covington, and Diaz have all said that they’re looking to get paid, and won’t accept anything less than what they believe they’re worth.

It’s no surprise that negotiations are stalling out when all four have a similar mindset. However, the UFC’s trips to New York’s MSG are normally some of their biggest shows of the year. The Las Vegas-based promotion will likely get a deal done soon to lock up a big-time main event

What do you think about Masvidal possibly getting the title shot over Covington?

Colby Covington vs. Kamaru Usman Negotiations Not Looking Good

It looks like Colby Covington’s plans to ‘cripple’ Kamaru Usman will have to wait. Covington was expected to be next in line to challenge Usman for the 170-pound strap. It looks like Colby Covington’s plans to ‘cripple’ Kamaru Usman will have to wait.

Covington was expected to be next in line to challenge Usman for the 170-pound strap. However, according to a report from ESPN’s Ariel Helwani, negotiations are not going well. In fact, the UFC is looking at other options. Those options include a different welterweight title fight, and/or a different main event.

It will be interesting to see how things shake out when it’s all said and done. A source close to the situation told LowKickMMA late last month that Covington had verbally accepted a fight with Usman, but no bout agreements were issued. It should be noted that Usman has been very clear that Covington wasn’t a lock to be his next opponent for the title.

The UFC’s pay-per-view (PPV) events in New York are always one of their biggest shows of the year. A fight between Covington and Usman would certainly be a worthy main event. However, if that bout ultimately falls through, the UFC will have to put something big together to take its place.

170 pounds is filled with big names such as Jorge Masvidal, Nate Diaz, and Tyron Woodley. Perhaps one of those names could step in to save the day.

Do you think Covington and Usman will fight each other at UFC 244?

Darren Till has been thinking about a move to middleweight for quite some time. He was a massive welterweight who had trouble making weight as he missed for his scrap against Stephen Thompson.

Now, after two straight losses where he lost to Tyron Woodley for the belt by submission, then was knocked out by Jorge Masvidal, Till decided to move up. At UFC 244, the Englishman will make his middleweight debut when he takes on Kelvin Gastelum, in a fight that promised to bring fireworks.

The two are both former welterweights so the size difference may not be that different. Yet, Darren Till released several photos on Instagram where he is looking massive ahead of his 185-pound debut.

Darren Till no doubt has added weight and muscle to make the jump up 15 pounds to middleweight. As you can see in the pictures, he looks shredded and more muscular than he was at welterweight.

When he steps into the Octagon at UFC 244 he is looking to snap his two-fight losing streak. He is 17-2-1 as a pro and before the two losses had notable wins over Stephen Thompson and Donald Cerrone in the UFC.

His opponent in Kelvin Gastelum, meanwhile, is coming off of a decision loss at UFC 236 to Israel Adesanya. There, he was fighting for the interim middleweight title. Before that, at UFC 234, he was scheduled to face Robert Whittaker for the middleweight title but the Aussie champion had to pull out on the day of the fight.

Gastelum is looking to get back to the winning ways at UFC 244 just like Darren Till. As, before the loss to Adesanya, he had beaten Michael Bisping and Jacare Souza.

What do you make of these pictures Darren Till posted?

Gregor Gillespie has finally called someone out.

The undefeated lightweight has not fought since January and many were wondering where he has been. He rarely does interviews and instead focuses on his time on fishing and training.

Yet, he has now decided to call someone out as he took to Instagram to release a video calling out Anthony Pettis to fight him at UFC 244. He believes “Showtime” is in the wrong weight class and wants to welcome him back to 155-pounds.

“So for the last 6 fights everyone has been pressuring and annoying me to call someone out….I never wanted to but it looks like I am going to have to play the game…I want my first “call out” to count so…… @showtimepettis I think you are a great fighter, but you are in the wrong weight class, come back down to 155 and meet me at MSG on November 2.
@arielhelwani @danawhite@showtimepettis @ufc @seanshelby”

Gregor Gillespie is currently 13-0 and 6-0 inside the Octagon. “The Gift” is coming off of a dominating TKO win over Yancy Medeiros back in January. His other wins are over Vinc Pichel, Jordan Rinaldi, Jason Gonzalez, Andrew Holbrook, and Glaico Franca. Before making it to the Las Vegas-based promotion he was the Ring of Combat lightweight champion and his final fight on the regional scenes was a win over Contender Series-alum, Sidney Outlaw.

Anthony Pettis, meanwhile, is coming off of a decision loss to Nate Diaz at UFC 241. He also broke his foot in that fight. Before that, in his welterweight debut in the UFC, he knocked out Stephen Thompson. The former UFC lightweight champion also holds wins over Michael Chiesa, Benson Henderson, Gilbert Melendez, and Donald Cerrone among others.

Whether or not Gillespie will get his wish is to be seen as Pettis has yet to respond.

Would you want Gregor Gillespie vs. Anthony Pettis to happen at UFC 244?

Darren Till has apparently made up his mind in regards to which weight class he’ll be fighting at.

According to a report from ESPN‘s Brett Okamoto, Till will make his debut at 185 pounds against former interim title challenger Kelvin Gastelum. The action takes place at the UFC 244 pay-per-view (PPV) event on November 2 from Madison Square Garden.

Till has been teasing the matchup as of late, as he posted a photo of Gastelum on Instagram last week with the caption, “Let’s go.” The Englishman is on a two-fight losing streak at the moment, both being the only losses of his career. The first came in his welterweight title fight defeat to Tyron Woodley, who submitted him in the second round last year.

Then, Till was knocked out in the second round of his fight with Jorge Masvidal earlier this year in London. Till has struggled to cut down to 170 pounds throughout his career, and a move up to middleweight was almost inevitable in the eyes of many. As for Gastelum, he comes off a Fight Of The Year contender with Israel Adesanya at UFC 236 this past April.

Gastelum dropped a decision loss to “Stylebender” with the interim 185-pound strap on the line. Now, he’ll welcome Till to the middleweight division, one of the better strikers on the Las Vegas-based promotion’s roster.

What do you think about Till taking on Gastelum at middleweight at UFC 244?
