UFC president Dana White has no problem seeing Israel Adesanya and Robert Whittaker battle again.

Whittaker made it two wins in a row following an impressive unanimous decision victory over Jared Cannonier in the UFC 254 co-main event on Saturday.

Many believed the winner of the fight would get the next crack at Adesanya’s middleweight crown, but even more so if it was Cannonier as he would be a fresh opponent. However, with Whittaker getting the victory, it now appears he’s next in line though there was some doubt initially.

Whittaker lost his middleweight title to Adesanya in a second-round knockout defeat in October last year but despite it being just over a year since, White has no problem booking a rematch between the duo so soon.

“It’s very appealing to me,” White said at the post-fight press conference (via MMA Fighting). “It’s the fight that makes sense right now. Adesanya has a lot of options, but the fight that makes the most sense is Whittaker. I thought Cannonier was gonna be a much tougher challenge for him.

“He looked good tonight. So the Adesanya fight makes sense.”

Many observers felt Whittaker didn’t perform like himself in the Adesanya fight. And after revealing he was burnt out and having taken some time away from the sport afterward, “The Reaper” is now looking better than ever following wins over Darren Till in July and now Cannonier.

All signs point to a rematch with Adesanya and based on recent performances, it guarantees to be even better than the first one.

Gilbert Burns and Josh Thomson fired back at Nate Diaz following his post-UFC 254 tweets.

Khabib Nurmagomedov defeated Justin Gaethje with a triangle choke in the second round of their lightweight title unification fight on Saturday.

Diaz was not impressed, however, as he fired shots at Nurmagomedov along with Conor McGregor and Dustin Poirier following the event.

The most recent tweet came on Sunday when he claimed Nurmagomedov was 29-1 with the one loss coming to him after an altercation the pair had a few years ago.

That led to many fans mocking Diaz and some fighters and ex-fighters also joined in like Burns and Thomson who responded with pictures of Diaz getting beaten up.

“Just stop @NateDiaz209,” Burns replied.

Burns has notably gone back-and-forth with Diaz in the past after the Stockton native played him down as a worthy title challenger. “Durinho” would fire back by mocking the number of losses on Diaz’s record on that occasion.

Meanwhile, Thomson — the only fighter to finish Diaz via strikes — also responded with a picture of the head kick that led to the latter’s defeat in their fight. Thomson is notably a teammate of Nurmagomedov’s at American Kickboxing Academy.

“Ssshhh….. ?

With just two fights since the start of 2017, Diaz certainly isn’t helping himself with these tweets.

Tony Ferguson hasn’t given up on a fight with Khabib Nurmagomedov just yet.

Nurmagomedov announced his retirement from the sport of mixed martial arts following his impressive second-round submission win over Justin Gaethje in the UFC 254 headliner yesterday.

It was a decision that shocked many in the combat sports world as the expectation was that “The Eagle” would retire with a 30-0 record rather than 29-0. To make matters worse, it dawned on many observers that Nurmagomedov’s retirement also ended any chance of a Ferguson fight once and for all.

Not according to “El Cucuy” though. Fans were eager to see how he would respond to Nurmagomedov calling time on his career and he finally did on Sunday.

“See you soon fathead.”

It appears Ferguson is still not giving up on a fight with Nurmagomedov.

The pair were slated to fight five times only for the contest to be called off on all five occasions. The most recent occasion was earlier this year at UFC 249 when the COVID-19 pandemic meant Nurmagomedov couldn’t travel outside Russia.

Instead, Ferguson would face Gaethje and lose which led to the title unification fight yesterday. If Nurmagomedov’s retirement sticks, it will certainly go down as the most cursed fight in combat sports history.

What do you think of Ferguson’s response?

Earlier tonight (Saturday, October, 24th. 2020) UFC 254: Khabib vs. Gaethje took place from the Flash Forum on ‘Fight Island’ on Yas Island in Abu Dhabi, UAE. UFC president, Dana White announced the following bonuses at tonight’s post-fight press conference.

Taking main event honours, Khabib ‘The Eagle’ Nurmagomedov successfully unified the lightweight crown opposite interim titleholder, Justin ‘The Highlight’ Gaethje – before announcing his stunning retirement from professional mixed martial arts at an undeniable 29-0.

Finding himself on the wrong end of a number of worrying leg kicks early in the opening round, Khabib forced Gaethje to fight off the fence and never allowed him get comfortable, with massive pressure and pace. With a visibly fatigued Gaethje returning to his stool, Khabib managed to take the Arizona native’s back in the second-round in a scramble near the Octagon fence. Assuming full-mount, Khabib then dropped to his back, locking up a taut triangle – with Gaethje ultimately falling unconscious after a series of taps.

An emotional Khabib gathered his thoughts in the centre of the Octagon afterwards, before calling time on his illustrious career, after a promise he had made to his mother following the passing of his father, Abdulmanap. The victory proved enough for Khabib to score a Performance of The Night bonus.

Opening up our main card portion of the event, an intriguing light heavyweight rematch between rivals, Magomed Ankalaev and Ion Cutelaba. Following a controversial stoppage in March of this year – the pair looked to finally settle the score in a heated rivalry.

Dropping the Moldovan in the opening frame, Ankalaev then scored a massive counter left-hook to drop Cutelaba a second time – with a series of massive ground-and-pound hammer-fists finishing Cutelaba. No question here – clean as a whistle for the dangerous, Ankalaev. With the victory, the division contender also picked up Performance of The Night spoils.

Earning Fight of The Night bonuses apiece – bantamweight contenders, Nathaniel ‘The Prospect’ Wood, and Casey Kenney clashed at a 140-pound catchweight, in an exciting three-round barnburner. Lodging his second win of this month alone, Kenney managed to take home a unanimous decision win over Wood in an intriguing affair.
