One-time UFC strawweight title challenger, Jessica Penne has handed fellow former title chaser, the returning, Karolina Kowalkiewicz a first round armbar defeat to open the preliminary portion of UFC 265 at the Toyota Centre in Houston, Texas.

Penne, a former Invicta FC atomweight gold holder managed to eventually lock up an armbar victory with just less than 30-seconds remaining in the first round as Lodz native, Kowalkiewicz admirably attempted to defend.

Following Penne to the ground, former KSW titleholder, Kowalkiewicz failed with a brief kneebar attack of her own, before California native, Penne secured her second straight victory via an armbar win — following a prior decision victory against former LFA champion, Lupita Godinez earlier this year.

Former Rizin FF bantamweight champion, Manel Kape has lodged his first Octagon victory — via a stunning opening round flying-knee knockout stoppage over Ode’ Osbourne in the featured UFC Fight Pass preliminary bout at UFC 265.

Tipping the scales for his flyweight bout at 129lbs on Friday, Kape, who had dropped his first two UFC outings to Brazilain pair, Alexandre Pantoja and Matheus Nicolau — was in much need of a victory against Osbourne.

Timing an expertly launched flying-knee, with just 16-seconds remaining in the opening round, Kape dropped Osbourne before following up with a volley of ground strikes — lodging an important first UFC triumph.

Improving to 12-1, Miles ‘Chapo’ Johns turned in a spectacular striking performance on route to an early third round knockout win over Anderson dos Santos — via a beautiful hook combination on the preliminary portion of UFC 265.

Chopping at the legs of dos Santos in the opening round, Johns drew massive reactions from the Brazilian — who appeared to be severely limited from the second round onward as a result.

Unleashing a huge left hook to the body followed by a right hook upstairs in the third round, Johns finally sat dos Santos down, stopping the Brazilian and scoring another victory.

Taking main event status, an interim heavyweight title bout between the most prolific heavyweight knockout artist in the organization’s history, Derrick ‘The Black Beast’ Lewis and the undefeated French striking standout, Ciryl ‘Bon Gamin’ Gane.

Last featuring in February, one-time undisputed title challenger, Lewis took home a massive second round uppercut knockout victory over Curtis Blaydes to lodge his fifth consecutive victory.

For the 9-0 Gane, the 31-year-old managed a rather comfortable unanimous decision win over Alexander Volkov in the main event of UFC Vegas 30 in June.

In the night’s co-headliner, former undisputed featherweight champion, Jose Aldo returns opposite compatriot, Pedro Munhoz in a bantamweight clash.

Returning to winning ways at UFC Vegas 17 in December, Aldo bested Team Oyama mainstay, Marlon Vera with a co-main event unanimous judging triumph.

Himself snapping a two-fight slide in his last outing, American Top Team staple, Munhoz took home a rematch win over Jimmie Rivera in February — beneath a main event of Jairzinho Rozenstruik and the aforenoted, Gane.
