Conor McGregor was impressed by the UFC debut of his fellow Irishman.

Ian Garry met Jordan Williams on the prelims of UFC 268. The former Cage Warriors champion got off to a somewhat slow start, eating a number of shots from Williams early on. However, in the dying seconds of the first round, Garry was able to find his timing, avoid a punch, and fire back one of his own. The shot landed cleanly on Williams chin, and a few punches that landed afterwards appeared to be academic.

McGregor was quick to jump on Twitter and congratulate his countryman on a successful UFC debut.

McGregor immediately took to social media afterwards to congratulate Garry on his performance. Garry trains alongside ‘The Notorious’ at SBG Ireland. He hasn’t been shy about saying that he looks up to McGregor and models his game after him. Needless to say, McGregor was proud of his pupil.

“You little f—in daisy Ian!” McGregor wrote. “The step back, back paw an all ahahahaha just absolutely incredible!”

‘Notorious’ later added three voice notes to his Twitter timeline and it’s clear he was hyped up following Garry’s performance.

Garry was somewhat critical of his own performance afterwards, saying that it was the first time he had ever felt nerves inside the cage. Still, he managed to come up big when it mattered the most, and it’s a performance that is sure to put him on fight fans radar.

The 23-year-old came into the organization with a lot of hype behind him, and he has managed to live up the billing so far. It will be interesting to see how he performs as he moves up the UFC ladder.

What did you think of Ian Garry’s performance? Were you as impressed as Conor McGregor?

Dana White Island Boys

Dana White got a special call-out from a couple of viral stars to sign a former TUF competitor.

Frankie and Alex Venegas – better known as Kodiyakredd and Flyysoulja, respectively – have taken TikTok by storm in the past few weeks. The twins posted a video of themselves rapping a song they call ‘Island Boy’, and it’s catchy beat combined with their unique appearance brought them near immediate fame.

The pair have since began to build a brand for themselves, which includes merchandise as well as joining Cameo – a service which lets the public buy personalized video messages from celebrities. One of the latest to purchase such a video was former TUF competitor Vince Murdock.

The bantamweight fighter appeared on season 29 of The Ultimate Fighter, where he lost to Brady Hiestand by first-round knockout. Before that, he appeared on Dana White’s Contender Series where he suffered a third-round defeat. Prior to his current skid, Murdock was on a five fight winning streak.

The video has since made it’s way to White’s Twitter feed.

White shared the video on his social media account and hyped up Saturday’s UFC 268 card.

The brothers also wished Murdock well in his recovery. Murdock was actually previously signed to the UFC in 2019, but medical tests revealed that he had moyamoya disease, which causes narrowing of the blood vessels in the brain.

While Murdock’s recovery and return to fighting has been inspiring, he’s going to need more than a video shout-out to find his way back to the big show. However, if he can get back to his winning ways, he may find himself back on the UFC roster.

What do you think of the Island Boys newest song? Will it get Murdock signed to the UFC?

For Covington, the outspoken top-contender last featured in September of last year in the headlining bout of UFC Vegas 11 where he secured a fifth round TKO victory over common-opposition, former undisputed champion, Tyron Woodley who suffered a fifth round rib injury.

In the first of our championship doubleheader, strawweight gold is on the line between current queen and two-time champion, Rose Namajunas and former champion, the #1 ranked, Zhang Weili — with the pair meeting once again following an April showdown.

Co-headlining UFC 261 on that occasion, Weili suffered a first round high kick knockout loss to Namajunas — who became the first two-time strawweight champion in the history of the organization.

Gaethje Says Chandler Win Better Secure Title Shot “Or We Riot”

Justin Gaethje, Dana White

UFC lightweight contender Justin Gaethje has promised to “riot” if he’s not given a title shot with a victory over Michael Chandler at UFC 268 this weekend.

Gaethje hasn’t been in action since UFC 254 last October. Having won the interim belt with a victory over Tony Ferguson five months prior, “The Highlight” looked to successfully unify the belts against the great Khabib Nurmagomedov in Abu Dhabi. Despite a strong opening round, Gaethje was put to sleep by Khabib by way of a triangle choke in the second frame.

Now over a year later, Gaethje is set to square off with #5-ranked Chandler, who has debuted in the promotion and fought for the title in the period since the 32-year-old last made the walk to the Octagon. In a blockbuster main card opener, the pair will both be looking to secure title shots inside Madison Square Garden.

Gaethje Won’t Be Snubbed For Another Title Fight

Gaethje hasn’t shied away from making his feelings known on the UFC’s decision not to include him in the vacant title fight following Khabib’s retirement. While Dustin Poirier pursued a money trilogy clash with Conor McGregor, promotional veteran Charles Oliveira faced Chandler for 155-pound gold at UFC 262 in May. The decision came despite the fact Gaethje had held the interim belt prior to his loss to “The Eagle.”

With his frustration still clear, Gaethje insists a victory over “Iron” this Saturday will secure him another championship opportunity. During an interview with ESPN MMA’s Marc Raimondi, “The Highlight” revealed what will happen if he’s not given a date with the champ.

“Absolutely it does (get me a title shot). If not, we riot… If I win Saturday and I don’t get a shot, I riot. Like, there’s no way I can let that happen and go away quiet… I know a lot of people just call me a little bitch for whining but I don’t know. I guess I just sit back, let my manager do what he’s supposed to do and make the right thing happen. It kind of threw things into the loop when Khabib retired. I waited for someone to fight, there was no fights available up until this point, and this is the perfect fight to get me right in that picture.”

It appears that should Gaethje be victorious on November 6, the other man in the title conversation will be Islam Makhachev. The Dagestani, who’s a close friend and teammate of Gaethje’s former foe Khabib, moved further into the lightweight top five with a dominant submission victory over Dan Hooker at UFC 267 last weekend. Despite the 30-year-old’s win streak and latest triumph, Gaethje doesn’t believe a win against “The Hangman” is enough to see Makhachev fight for gold.

“He’s lost four out of his last five I believe, Hooker. It was a late replacement fight. It’s not like he trained for that fight. He (Makhachev) still has not fought a top-calibre fighter in the UFC. That’s my mindset.”

Do you think a victory over Michael Chandler at UFC 268 will secure Justin Gaethje a title shot?
