‘King’ Bobby Green Claims Arman Tsurukyan and his team attacked him in hotel lobby ahead of UFC Austin

‘King’ Bobby Green and Arman Tsurukyan are scheduled to face separate opponents at UFC Austin, but that didn’t stop the two lightweight standouts from trying to kickstart an impromptu scrap ahead of fight night.

Green was reportedly in a hotel lobby by himself, finishing up some media obligations when Tsarukyan and his team approached him with ill intentions.

“Sh*t just getting started,” Green said via an Instagram story. “Sh*t’s just getting started, n*gga. Little b*tch ass n*gga right there. I’mma get you right there. Y’all ran up on me, n*gga. Y’all ran up on me, what’s up?!

“I ain’t be starting nothing with nobody, but if you start that sh*t with me, I’m definitely gonna finish it,” he continued. “This sh*t just starting. It’s just starting. N*gga might go to jail tonight. F*ck around playing with me.”

Bobby Green Slams Arman Tsarukyan’s Style of Fighting

The altercation likely stems from some disparaging remarks Bobby Green made regarding Tsarukyan’s particular style of fighting during an interview with The Schmo. “That Arman guy’s f*cking boring,” Green said. “I can’t stand watching him fight. Every time I watch him fight, I go to sleep.”

Clearly, Tsarukyan didn’t take kindly to the comments and attempted to confront Bobby Green while being backed up by his team.

“This b*tch ass n*gga ran up on me trying to start that sh*t,” Green said. “He didn’t know I was gonna finish it. I socked one of his homies. Bop (laughs). Stop playing with me, bro. N*gga, we from ‘Dino. We from the ‘Dino where that sh*t really goes down. You n*ggas trying to do all that talking.

Hey, I need somebody else to tell me who that is in that video. I don’t know who the f*ck he is, but he was acting super tough when the n*ggas ran up on me by myself. They all ran up on me by myself and they was acting all that tough. As soon as I ran into the n*ggas again with my n*ggas then he was, ‘Oh, no, no.’

“Nah, nah, nah. You started this sh*t. Then soon as security come and all that sh*t, now you want to act tough again.”

Bobby Green was originally scheduled to face Dan Hooker in a five-round co-main event clash at UFC Austin, but after Hooker broke his arm in training, Jalin Turner agreed to step in on short notice.

In the evening’s headliner, Arman Tsarukyan will continue his ascent up the lightweight ladder when he squares off with perennial contender Beneil Dariush. ‘Ahalkalakets’ has won seven of his last eight with his lone loss coming against Mateusz Gamrot in June 2022.

Beneil Dariush reveals offer to fight Dustin Poirier at UFC Austin I'd love to hear what he has to say

Himself revealing how he received and accepted an offer to fight for undisputed lightweight gold back in October against Islam Makhachev, former interim champion, Dustin Poirier then received no update from the promotion – and incoming UFC Austin main event star, Beneil Dariush has suffered the same fate, in the form of a failed pairing to fight Poirier on two occasions this month.

Dariush, the current number four ranked lightweight contender, has been sidelined since he co-headlined UFC 289 back in June in Canada, suffering the snapping of his eight fight winning run, in the form of a stunning opening round TKO loss to former undisputed champion, Charles Oliviera.

As for Poirier, the former interim lightweight champion headlined UFC 291 back in July in his most recent outing, suffering a spectacular second round high-kick KO loss to Justin Gaethje in the pair’s symbolic BMF championship rematch.

Beneil Dariush reveals offers to fight Dustin Poirier

Booked to take on Armenian contender, Arman Tsarukyan in the main event of UFC Austin this weekend in the promotion’s return to ‘The Lone Star State’, Dariush claims he accepted two separate offers to fight Lafayette native, Poirier at UFC 295 earlier this month, as well as the this weekend’s return in Texas – ultimately to no avail.

“I actually got a call for fighting Dustin Poirier a couple of weeks ago on UFC 295,” Beneil Dariush told Submission Radio. “They [the UFC] called me for that and they said, ‘Hey, would you be willing?’ And I said, ‘Yeah, of course. My weight’s good, I’m obviously in camp right now, I can do a fight with Dustin Poirier.’ And they said, ‘Okay, we’ll get back to you.’ It didn’t materialize and then they called me again and they said, ‘Okay, what about Dustin Poirier for December 2?’ I said, ‘Okay.’ Then I just waited and it didn’t materialize.”

“Afterward they said they were going to stick with Arman (Tsarukyan) and it’s gonna be five rounds,” Beneil Dariush explained. “I never hear the other side. I’m not really sure what happened with Dustin. I would love to hear what he has to say about it, but no one has asked him in the interviews or anything like that or he hasn’t mentioned it.”

Who wins in a potential future fight: Beneil Dariush or Dustin Poirier?

Snapping a run of three consecutive fights last month at UFC Austin, bantamweight contender, Cody Stamann has admitted that his career in the sport was likely on the line against former WEC champion, Eddie Wineland – prior to a blistering first round knockout win.

Stamann, who featured on the preliminary card of the promotion’s return to Austin for a ‘Fight Night’ billed card, steamrolled former WEC bantamweight titleholder, Wineland, stopping the retiring veteran with a 59-second first round knockout win – earning him a Performance of the Night bonus subsequently.

Prior to his first round win, however, Xtreme Couture mainstay, Stamann had suffered a trio of losses to Said Nurmagomedov, surging contender, Merab Dvalishvili, and promotional alum, Jimmie Rivera.

Cody Stamann admits his UFC run was likely over with a loss in Austin

20-5-1 as a professional, Stamann landed in the promotion with a trio of eye-catching victories of his own, defeating Terion Ware, Tom Duquesnoy, and then Bryan Caraway, however, admitted that a loss to Wineland last month would have forced him to consider his career in the sport.

“Going into that fight, I knew if it was Eddie Wineland or anyone else, I was gonna knock them out,” Cody Stamann during an interview with LowKick MMA reporter, Alex Behunin. “I was just geared up, I knew what was on the line, I knew my career was on the line – if there was ever a time I needed to show up and show the athlete that I am, it was that night.

“Nah, I think that was 100 per cent, I think that was a certainty,” Cody Stamann said of his prospects of being cut from the UFC roster. “I think I almost need that pressure though, you know. I’ve been in high-stakes situations like that, you know, UFC 250 was a completely different thing – but a very emotional, high-stress situation, and I feel like that’s when I really perform at my best.”

In between a prior submission defeat to current bantamweight champion, Aljamain Sterling, and a draw with Song Yadong – Stamann landed a pair of other UFC wins against Alejandro Perez, and Brian Kelleher.

UFC bantamweight Adrian Yanez had plenty of support ahead of his fight against Tony Kelley, including from within the promotion itself.

In one of the most notable bouts on show at Saturday’s UFC Austin event, rising 135-pound prospect Yanez opened the main card against Kelley, who’s cut a controversial figure as of late following comments he directed towards Brazilians while in the corner of his partner Andrea Lee.

With that in mind, Texas’ Yanez not only had the support of his home state on fight night, but also the country of Brazil and a host of fighters, fans, and pundits who took issue with Kelley’s remarks and lack of remorse.

Thankfully for his legion of backers, Yanez got the job done inside the Moody Center, and in some style, knocking Kelley out inside one round and with little resistance.

And while the likes of Gilbert Burns were left delighted at the result, with “Durinho” even lining Yanez’s pockets with some extra bonus money, another group of individuals were seemingly left joyous: the UFC’s staff.

During a recent interview with The AllStar’s John Hyon Ko, Yanez looked back on the victory, which he said was made all the more satisfying after he came to learn that members of the promotion’s staff were rooting for him to “f*ck” Kelley up in Austin.

“It’s an awesome moment for me. Man, that was a lotta emotion. That was a lotta raw emotion, of me just wanting to f*ck that guy up, man. I don’t like that guy,” said Yanez. “I genuinely don’t like that guy… I heard a lotta stuff about him. It’s a different thing when I’m like, going through the hallways and the UFC staff is telling me to f*ck him up.

“That was the first guy I’ve had (where they’ve) been like, ‘F*ck that guy up. Like, beat the sh*t out of him.’ And there’s been so many thank yous after,” Yanez continued. “Everybody’s like, ‘Thank you man, f*ck.’ Those are the nicest people in the world, too, man, so it means a little bit more. It was a little bit more satisfying.”

Despite what most would expect to be a humbling victory, Kelley has continued to trash talk post-fight. But while Yanez has noted that he’d be open to knocking the 35-year-old out again, a move into the bantamweight top 15 in the latest update should mean that he’s destined for things much bigger than Kelley next time out.

Were you happy to see Adrian Yanez get the job done at UFC Austin?

Chael Sonnen Ponders: ‘What If Hawes Had Swung At Cormier?’

Former UFC star Chael Sonnen believes it’s a good thing that middleweight Phil Hawes chose to de-escalate his Octagon exchange with Daniel Cormier this past weekend.

Saturday’s UFC Austin card brought fans a lot of things, from a host of knockouts and exciting finishes to impressive debuts and an entertaining main event. But beyond the action, one moment caught the attention of viewers.

On the preliminary card, Cormier, who was on color commentary duty inside the Moody Center, witnessed his protégé Deron Winn suffer a dominant and devastating TKO loss to Hawes.

While Hawes’ performance was initially the main talking point, his decision to set his sights on Cormier as he entered the Octagon for the post-fight interview and accuse the former champ-champ of ‘picking the wrong pony’ quickly stole the headlines.

Ultimately, after a confrontation that saw Cormier instruct “Megatron” to show some respect, the victorious middleweight apologized in the cage before repeating his regret during his appearance at post-fight press conference.

During a recent video uploaded to his YouTube channel, Chael Sonnen became the latest to give his take on the matter. And despite the fact he initiated the exchange, the 45-year-old believes that Hawes actually left it looking good.

“One of the high moments over the card that we got to see Saturday was drama between Phil Hawes and Daniel Cormier… Phil Hawes, not only was right, he was perfect,” said Sonnen. “Phil was right for being wrong. He had to be wrong first. But you wanna know who looked good in that story? It was Phil, and I really hope you guys see it that way.”

Sonnen went on to suggest that Hawes is owed some leeway given the fact he was riding high on adrenaline at the time following an impressive victory. But while the 185lber quickly settled down and took Cormier’s advice, Sonnen questioned what would have happened if he’d done the opposite and turned the altercation physical.

“Daniel knew how to come to a young athlete. What would have happened if Phil hadn’t been so gracious?” Sonnen asked. “Don’t forget guys, Phil was high, Phil was out of his mind, he was drunk, Phil was under the influence, he was intoxicated. This is a natural high, an endorsement and an adrenaline release.

“So, when I tell you that Hawes, first off, deserves a bit of understanding, he was out of his mind. He was out of his mind with excitement that he earned, so go a little easy on Hawes. But when he came at Daniel, what if — ’cause Daniel didn’t back away did he? His face went real straight,” Sonnen continued. “Daniel did not like that. Daniel did not like being spoke that way… What if Phil would have swung on him?”

Sonnen: Hawes’ Apology Took “Character”

Fortunately, the retired former two-division titleholder wasn’t required to make a sudden return to Octagon action, and the pair completed the post-fight interview cordially.

According to Sonnen, Hawes’ decision to do that, and reiterate his apology again following the incident, took “character,” and was something he appreciated from the 33-year-old New Jersey native.

“Phil spoke that language and Phil stopped, and Phil was right,” said Sonnen. “He said it again (at the press conference). He was like, ‘I apologize. That is the two-time champion of the world, I was wrong.’ Perfect. That took character, it did…. He came back to (his senses) quickly, he stood on it… He apologized. Phil was right. I appreciated it.”

What did you make of Phil Hawes’ post-fight conduct at UFC Austin?
