Classic ‘Cowboy’

One could just write Cerrone’s latest injury off as typical “Cowboy,” as he’s teased an injury online before. But complicating matters is his upcoming fight against Mike Perry at UFC Fight Night 139 on Nov. 10, 2018, in Denver, Colorado. Not only is Cerrone scheduled to fight on that historic UFC 25th anniversary show, but he’s in the co-main event.

Cerrone didn’t go into details about how he injured his arm, however, he did assure fans that he would be ready to go come November in front of his hometown crowd.

Although “Cowboy” didn’t shed light on the cause of his injury it can be safely assumed that this could be the latest in a long line of extreme sports mishaps for the UFC vet. Earlier this month Cerrone told a horrific tale on the Joe Rogan MMA podcast. He detailed how he nearly drowned in a scuba diving accident.

UFC Fight Night 139 is headlined by Frankie Edgar vs.Chan Sung Jung. Jung will be making his long-awaited return to the Octagon as he takes on perennial contender Edgar.

Heres how the rest of UFC Fight Night 139 looks:

Donald Cerrone vs. Mike Perry

Joseph Benavidez vs. Ray Borg

Raquel Pennington vs. Germaine de Randamie

Luis Pena vs. Mike Trizano

Maycee Barber vs. M. Kahaunaele-Stevenson

Joseph Benavidez Blames Conor McGregor For Moving His Next Fight

Joseph Benavidez directed his frustration against McGregor.

The post Joseph Benavidez Blames Conor McGregor For Moving His Next Fight appeared first on LowKickMMA.com.

Joseph Benavidez blames Conor McGregor for having his next fight inside of the Octagon under the UFC banner moved back as a result of his actions. The former UFC flyweight title contender is slated to fight Ray Borg at the upcoming UFC Denver event.

The Fight

Both men come into the contest off losses as Benavidez’s six-fight win streak was ended thanks Sergio Pettis at UFC 225 in June. On the flip side, Pettis bested the former flyweight title challenger via split decision.

This fight was originally slated to go down at the UFC 229 pay-per-view event. However, McGregor is slated to headline this show when he meets Khabib Nurmagomedov for the lightweight title.

Joseph Benavidez Blames Conor McGregor

Benavidez stated in a recent interview that the fight was pushed back a month due to the actions of McGregor. Back in April during fight week of the UFC 223 pay-per-view event, McGregor and several members of his entourage decided to fly from Ireland to Brooklyn, New York to get revenge on Nurmagomedov.

This led to McGregor attacking the fighter bus that had Nurmagomedov on and he was arrested as a result. Borg was one of the fighters on that bus and injured because of it.

“As far as I understand, Borg and Conor have the legal beef from New York. Because Borg was one of the victims of the Conor thing,” Benavidez recently told MMAjunkie Radio. “It wasn’t anything Borg did. I guess Borg is like, ‘Dude, I don’t care. That wasn’t my thing. I never fought him on it.’ It was filed right away. It wasn’t like Borg said, ‘Don’t have me near Conor.’ It’s just whenever you get into that action with the civil system, they just file it that these people can’t be next to each other.”

“It bothered me, but I did for the most part shrug it off,” Benavidez said. “Obviously I would have preferred something. If I would have just got the fight in Denver, I think I would have been pumped. But it was the fact they hung something in front of me first and then took it away from me.”

UFC Denver (also known as UFC Fight Night 139) is set to take place on Saturday, November 10, 2018 at Pepsi Center in Denver, Colorado. The main card will air on FOX Sports 1 while the preliminary card will be split broadcasted on FOX Sports 1 and UFC Fight Pass.

The card is headlined by a featherweight fight between Frankie Edgar and “The Korean Zombie” Chan Sung Jung.

Mike Perry Unveils Results Of Sparring Session With Donald Cerrone

Mike Perry detailed his recent sparring session with Donald Cerrone.

The post Mike Perry Unveils Results Of Sparring Session With Donald Cerrone appeared first on LowKickMMA.com.

UFC veteran Donald Cerrone has had a highly publicized spat with his longtime team at JacksonWink MMA this week. Adding fuel to that fire, it’s time Cerrone’s upcoming opponent Mike Perry unveils the results of a sparring session he had with ‘Cowboy.’

Cerrone took JacksonWink to task this week for supposedly failing to provide enough attention to their top-level fighters. JacksonWink coach Mike Winkeljohn was quick to respond and call Cerrone ‘narcissistic.’ Coach Wink obviously sided with Perry in the ordeal. Former UFC women’s bantamweight champion Miesha Tate was none too pleased with that stance.

It’s an ongoing saga. Perry recently revealed the results of his sparring session with Cerrone during an interview with MMAjunkie Radio. “Platinum” said Cerrone was quite easy to hit, but he didn’t want to go full-on with “Cowboy”:

“So I go to the BMF ranch – this would be the second time we sparred. We didn’t even spar, because he’s so easy for me to punch in the face that I didn’t punch him in the face like that. I was throwing jabs, and I was able to just touch him with the end of my glove, and I was like, man, I’m not going to open up on him here in his house on his ranch with all his people around.”

Grappling Was Another Story

Perry then revealed that he still wanted to get a high-level training session in, so he reverted to grappling. He admitted that Cerrone avoided his takedowns and controlled him on the ground for a significant amount of time:

“But I want to get this work, I want to get this aggressive energy out of me. So I started shooting takedowns, and I’m not that good at wrestling; just defensive wrestling moreso. And we went for 23 minutes straight. There wasn’t a lot of punches involved. I started shooting in takedowns to get that energy going and get that sweat and actually try hard.

“So I start shooting takedowns, and he kind of reversed me. I got up once or twice, and then the last 10 minutes of that round, he was on top of me. I was trying to pull some sweeps, or subs, but he’s a slick grappler, too, I wasn’t able to get him off of me the last 10 minutes.

“He’s laying on me at 23 minutes, and he kind of looks at me, and I just tapped him on the shoulder, like, ‘Alright, (expletive), get off of me.’”

Perry made it plain to see that Cerrone seemingly controlled him during their grappling exchanges. He does appear to insist he got the better of the striking, however.

Cerrone and Perry will square off in the co-main event of November 10’s UFC Fight Night 139 from Denver, Colorado.

Miesha Tate Goes Off On Donald Cerrone vs. JacksonWink

Miesha Tate sounded off on the Donald Cerrone/JacksonWink drama.

The post Miesha Tate Goes Off On Donald Cerrone vs. JacksonWink appeared first on LowKickMMA.com.

This week, the MMA world was beset by a surprising drama between UFC vet Donald Cerrone and his longtime gym JacksonWink MMA. Now it’s time Miesha Tate goes off on the bitter feud.

The drama fixated on a disagreement centered on the direction of the gym. Cerrone said he wanted the Albuquerque, NM-based MMA mecca to remain true to helping top fighters. He thinks the team’s decreased win percentage is a testament to how they’ve fallen.

But JacksonWink co-owner Mike Winkeljohn soon responded. His stance focused on his idea that ‘Cowboy’ is only about himself and could not be more narcissistic. It’s created a heated debate in MMA circles due to the personal nature of the conflict.

A Top Name Supports Cerrone

Some have sided with ‘Cowboy,’ others with one of the sport’s top gyms. A prominent name who sided with the former is former UFC women’s bantamweight champion Miesha Tate. Tate opened up on the situation on Sirius XM Fight Nation’s MMA Tonight (via MMA Fighting), noting that JacksonWink has been in this precarious spot before:

“This is reminiscent,” Tate said. “I feel like we’ve heard this story about this camp before when it was Rashad Evans and him feeling like he was pushed out of the spot with Jon Jones coming in.

“What I think is not cool, if it had been someone that had been training there like Carlos Condit or someone like that who had been training there a long time and they were gonna fight each other and both had that mutual respect, and mutual foundation at that gym, that’s different. But when the new guy is coming in and he’s like, ‘I wanna fight Cowboy’ and he comes to Cowboy’s gym, I think that the right thing to do by the gym – I think there’s some loyalty that should be towards Cowboy. He’s been there a really, really long time.”

Loyalty In Question

Much of the beef between Cerrone and JacksonWink centers around ‘Cowboy’s’ upcoming UFC Denver opponent Mike Perry. “Platinum” was fixated on fighting Cerrone as he began training at JacksonWink. Cerrone wasn’t happy about that.

Tate believes the gym should have been more loyal to their longtime flagship member. She suggested they should not have accepted Perry into their fold right before he fought Cerrone:

“‘This is probably not the camp for you to come in, Mike, because you’re fighting our boy. Cowboy has been with us forever. We’d love for you to come in for the next camp but Cowboy’s our dude,’” Tate said. “That’s how I think. Even though I know Cowboy doesn’t drive there every single day, he doesn’t train at the gym – there are some other reasons I think behind that, I think – that’s just me. That’s how I hope my gym would operate if I was under those circumstances.”

The drama has boiled over into many different perspectives. Longtime JacksonWink MMA fighter Diego Sanchez supported the gym. Perry promised he would send Cerrone to a ‘beautiful death’ when they fought.

The discord is quickly becoming personal as it takes over MMA headlines for this week. Where do you stand with this heated faceoff?

Jackson-Wink Fighter Vows To Give Donald Cerrone A ‘Beautiful Death’

Mike Perry vowes ‘Beautiful Death’ for Donald Cerrone.

The post Jackson-Wink Fighter Vows To Give Donald Cerrone A ‘Beautiful Death’ appeared first on LowKickMMA.com.

Jackson-Wink fighter Mike Perry has vowed to give Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone a ‘Spartan worthy beautiful death’ at UFC Denver.

Cerrone made headlines earlier this week on the Joe Rogan Experience podcast. He publicly lambasted his former team Jackson-Wink MMA. Claiming that the once fabled gym had since lost its luster. Coach Winkeljohn wasted little time firing back at Cerrone. Claiming he had never seen anyone as narcissistic as Cerrone in his life. Former longtime teammate Diego Sanchez even weighed in on the matter.

Now “Platinum” Perry has responded.

Perry, who is a known jokester, tweeted Youtube celebrity Logan Paul. The tweet was meant to be a dig at Cerrone for claiming that any old “bum” off the street can come train at Jackson-Wink.

Perry then turned his attention directly toward Cerrone. Saying that “Cowboy” has no idea what money problems are. And adding that he will, in fact, give Cerrone a “Spartan beautiful death.”

For good measure, Perry shot a quick video for Cerrone. Perry can be heard yelling “I’m coming for you! (growl) I’m coming for you in front of the whole world, motherf**ker! You earned it. You earned it.”

Mike Perry Claims ‘Cowboy’ Tried To Prevent His Jackson-Wink Move

It looks like “Cowboy” never wanted “Platinum” at Jackson-Wink.

The post Mike Perry Claims ‘Cowboy’ Tried To Prevent His Jackson-Wink Move appeared first on LowKickMMA.com.

Mike Perry claims that his Jackson-Wink MMA teammate Donald Cerrone tried to prevent him from joining the gym.

Perry and “Cowboy” will meet at UFC Fight Night 139 on November 10th. The action goes down inside the Pepsi Center in Denver, Colorado. Not only will it be teammate vs. teammate in Denver, but it will also be coach vs. coach.

“Platinum” tells BJ Penn Radio that Greg Jackson will be in Cerrone’s corner, while Mike Winkeljohn is in his (quotes via MMA Mania):

“Greg Jackson’s gonna be in his corner. I’ll have [Mike] Winkeljohn and coach Frank and I believe my coach from Florida, Julian Williams. And…he (Cerrone) doesn’t come in this gym,” Perry said.

Perry says Cerrone hasn’t been at the gym much since his arrival. He believes “Cowboy” will be talking trash about the team during an appearance on the Joe Rogan Experience podcast:

“He did last time I was here…like twice the whole two months I was here, twice. And ya know, he stays at his ranch and works out there.

“But now, I guess he’s going on [the] Joe Rogan [Experience podcast] tomorrow and he might say some things about the gym and Winkeljohn…try to talk some trash,” he added.

Perry speculates that Cerrone could be gearing up for a move back to Denver full-time. He believes “Cowboy” is looking for an excuse to move because people aren’t “kissing his ***” anymore at Jackson-Wink:

“I think he’s movin’ back to Denver. And like, none of this going on is the reason why. Like, he was just looking for a reason to act like it was something to push him to move over there.

“I don’t know him that well, but that’s the way it sounds to me. If he’s goin’ to Denver now, cause he’s wanted to for some time…and he’s goin’ ahead and making that move because he ain’t got a bunch of people kissing his *** over here no more.”

He also revealed that he heard a rumor that Cerrone physically went to the gym and tried to prevent Perry from moving to Jackson-Wink:

“I haven’t seen it first hand (the tension brewing). But I heard that he physically came here and asked them not to train me.

“For them not to allow me to come into the gym and to show him some respect even though…he hasn’t done anything for this gym in quite some time.”
