After he missed weight before his last two fights at welterweight, former UFC champion Johny Hendricks has been forced to make the jump up to 185 pounds.

‘Bigg Rigg’ will make his middleweight debut against 38-year-old Cuban veteran Hector Lombard at February 19’s UFC Fight Night 105 from Halifax, Nova Scotia.

Following three straight losses, Hendricks recently joined Submission Radio (quotes via MMA Mania) to discuss his upcoming bout with Lombard, vowing to walk away from the sport once and for all if he racks up a fourth consecutive UFC loss:

“Yes, I said if I lost I would (retire). But again, what I’m saying is, if I go out there and get beat up like I did the last two fights, you know, where I still can’t compete with those guys – which I clearly showed I can’t. Now I’ll be better, I think at 185. But like I said, if I go out there and I can’t compete, well I guess I can’t make 170, right? And I’m not going to try to ever again. It’s just too hard on my body. And if I fight good at 185, well then I’m gonna stay there.

“But if I don’t do good, then guess what, it’s time. I had my fun, I had my time. It’s not worth going out there and training for 12 weeks and then being done, or going out there and just losing. And that’s really what it’s about. And here’s one thing that really leads me to believe that that fight was mine – did you hear the boos after that? The whole crowd thought I won that fight. So I don’t want to leave whenever the fans think I’ve won. And that’s really where my head’s at, is that hey, they believe I won that fight, so I’m gonna do one more.”

Hendricks hasn’t won a fight since a unanimous decision win over Matt Brown, who has seen a sharp drop-off in performance himself, at UFC 185 in early 2015.

Since then the former welterweight champion has suffered three back-to-back losses to Stephen Thompson, Kelvin Gastelum, and Neil Magny. With ‘Bigg Rigg’ now apparently putting his career on the line against Lombard, it makes their clash inside the Octagon all the more interesting.

So Hendricks has once again vowed to retire if he loses his next fight – something MMA fans probably wouldn’t argue with if he does. Will UFC Fight Night 105 mark the end of “Bigg Rigg?”

Junior Dos Santos Confirms He’s Off UFC Fight Night 105

Former UFC heavyweight champion Junior “Cigano” Dos Santos was scheduled to rematch Stefan “Skyscraper” Struve in the main event of Feb. 19’s UFC Fight Night 105 from Halifax, Canada, but Struve was forced to withdraw from the fight a few weeks back after suffering a shoulder injury.

“Cigano” had expressed interest in staying on the card, and it appeared as if the UFC was actively looking for a replacement opponent, but it seems as if the promotion has come back to Dos Santos empty handed. The Brazilian slugger confirmed earlier today (Jan. 21, 2016) on his official Twitter account that he was indeed off the card:

Dos Santos has won two of his last three bouts and most recently scored a dominant decision victory over Ben Rothwell last April. After the bout, however, he underwent shoulder surgery, but he now appears to be back at full force.

The ex-champion had expressed interest in a rematch with fellow former champion Fabricio Werdum, who doesn’t currently have a fight booked, but the UFC wasn’t able to make the fight happen. JDS claims that Werdum has refused to fight him multiple times, although “Vai Cavalo” has said that his eyes are set on a title fight.

Who would you like to see Dos Santos fight next?

Junior dos Santos is Now Off The UFC Fight Night Event in Halifax

It looks like next month’s UFC Fight Night card in Halifax won’t be seeing Junior dos Santos in action. The former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) heavyweight title holder took to Twitter to reveal he is no longer a part of that event.

“Cigano” was originally supposed to fight Stefan Struve in a rematch. Dos Santos earned a TKO win over “Skyscraper” back in Feb. 2009. The fight lasted just 54 seconds.

A torn labrum forced Struve to pull out and dos Santos was left without an opponent. At first, UFC officials were looking for a replacement. It appears they couldn’t find one who would agree to face “Cigano” on short notice.

There has been no word on what the planned main event will be for the card. It’s a tough break for dos Santos, who hasn’t competed since April 2016. He beat Ben Rothwell from pillar to post for five rounds in his last bout. It was the type of performance “Cigano” needed after suffering a TKO loss to Alistair Overeem.

After getting beat badly in the second and third bouts with Cain Velasquez, many have questioned if dos Santos will ever return to form. While his thrashing of Rothwell was a good sign, some are still skeptical.

The former champion remains confident that he’s going to climb the 265-pound mountain once again. He holds a knockout win over Fabricio Werdum from 2008 and a controversial decision victory over the reigning title holder Stipe Miocic.

Right now, there is no clear contender at heavyweight. Stipe just disposed of Overeem, Velasquez is out with an injury, and Werdum was knocked out by Miocic at UFC 198. It’ll be interesting to see if the UFC books a title eliminator between Werdum and dos Santos, or if they decide to give one of them a title shot.

The UFC Fight Night event is set for Feb. 19 inside the Scotiabank Centre in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada.

Fabricio Werdum Plans To Fight ‘Gypsy’ Junior Dos Santos At Gym

Former UFC heavyweight champion Junior “Cigano” Dos Santos was scheduled to take on Stefan Struve in the main event of Feb. 19’s UFC 105 from Halifax, but he has been left without an opponent after Struve was forced to withdraw from the bout with a shoulder injury. The UFC is currently looking for a replacement opponent, and Dos Santos has showed interested in a rematch with No. 1-ranked former champion Fabricio Werdum, although “Cigano” said that “Vai Cavalo” has refused to fight him multiple times.

Werdum, who has said he only wants a title fight, doesn’t seem to be too pleased with Dos Santos’ comments. Recently taking to his official Facebook page, Werdum challenged ‘gypsy’ Dos Santos to a fight at American Top Team, the Brazilian slugger’s gym:

“I saw that Stipe Miocic is having a contract problem, he wants to increase the bag to renew, so if he does not fight, as I am the first in the ranking, I challenge Gypsy to a fight for the interim belt. And that’s not all. After this fight, regardless of the outcome, I go to his gym [American Top Team] to fight inside, me and him, business man himself, to end this clown talk that I’m running away. I’ll show him who runs away, show him how it used to be in the old days, show him he’s a f*cking girl who arrived yesterday and is playing the fool. Whoever wins this fight behind closed doors will have the right to post the result on social networks to see who is who.”

“I’ll call [ATT coach] Liborio who is my friend, respect him a lot, and as a sign of respect, warn him that I’m coming with my team to fight with Gypsy. I take the plane with Rafael Cordeiro and my brothers and I go to his gym to do a fight behind closed doors, until someone knocks out, there is no time, there is no round, there is nothing, no such business to stop because it is not holding up. Why, are you tired? Just for when someone taps or gets knocked out, in the same old fashion.”

Dos Santos and Werdum met for a first time in 2007 in a bout that saw JDS knock Werdum out with a brutal uppercut. “Vai Cavalo”, however, feels as if he’s evolved since then, and that Dos Santos is underestimating him:

“He’s talking bullsh*t, saying I’m a lie that worked, and I’m going to show him that it’s not like that. He’s thinking that I’m that fighter of the past, but I’m going to show reality to him. This is the challenge I’m throwing for Cigano, who is retarded, just talking bullsh*t, I think it’s the effect of the blows he took from Cain Velásquez.”

Here’s to hoping these two heavyweight titans settle the score inside of the cage.

JDS Says Werdum Refused To Fight Him Three Times

Former UFC heavyweight champion Junior “Cigano” Dos Santos was scheduled to rematch Stefan Struve in the main event of UFC Fight Night 105 on Feb. 19, 2017 in Halifax, but Struve was recently forced to withdraw from the bout due to injury.

As far as Dos Santos’ knows, the UFC is looking for a replacement opponent, and he has continued to train in hopes of the promotion finding one:

“We don’t really know the situation,” Dos Santos told MMAjunkie. “What the UFC told us is that they’re looking for an opponent, especially because we were the main event in Halifax. So I’m still training and awaiting news.”

“Cigano”, who is coming off of a dominant victory over Ben Rothwell last April, admits that the situation is a frustrating one especially given the fact that it was tough for him to find a fight in the first place:

“It’s very frustrating, to be honest,” Dos Santos said. “It’s tough, because you know how hard it was to find an opponent. I think many things were happening in the division, but we weren’t able to find an opponent. A few of them were injured, others serving suspensions, others with fights booked and others who wouldn’t take the fight – which for me is kind of absurd, but OK. Unfortunately, (Struve) got hurt. I can’t judge things without knowing, and I’ve been in his position before, so I can only wish him a good recovery so he can return as fast as possible. Who knows – maybe in the future we can fight.”

As far as a potential replacement opponent goes, the likely choice would appear to be former champion Fabricio Werdum. “Vai Cavalo” was scheduled to rematch fellow ex-champion Cain Velasquez at Dec. 30, 2016’s UFC 207, but Velasquez was forced to withdraw from the bout after failing to receive medical clearance from the Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC).

Dos Santos and Werdum have already fought before, with JDS knocking out his Brazilian counterpart with a brutal uppercut in in 2007. With both men still ranked towards the top of the division, a rematch appears to make sense, although JDS claims that Werdum has ‘refused’ to fight him three times over the last few months:

“Werdum was the UFC’s first option,” Dos Santos said. “Before even talking to me, they’d talked to him. But once again, I think he turned it down. I don’t know the reasons, but once more he turned it down – I believe it was the third time in these past few months that he refused to fight me, which is kind of senseless. He turned it down (and) the UFC went after other opponents. But, really, if you look at it, it was so hard to find a fight for me before Stefan Struve.”

Werdum has said that he’s only interested in fighting for the title, but would you rather see him take on Dos Santos?
