Dillon Danis took aim at Valentina Shevchenko for defending Jon Jones.
Jones was arrested Thursday morning for aggravated DWI and negligent use of a firearm in what is the latest infraction on his record. Many were not surprised given the UFC light heavyweight champion’s history as he received plenty of criticism for making yet another mistake.
Shevchenko was quick to defend him, however. The two notably shared the UFC 247 card last month as “Bullet” hit out at Jones’ critics:
“So sad the modern world is all about hype! Now many people starting to insult Jon Jones without knowing his real situation! Fighting on the same card , I could see he is kind and noble man ! Him being in all that difficult times – he will be back Stronger ! ??”
Danis was not impressed.
The Bellator fighter — who has regularly mocked and called out Jones in the past — responded to Shevchenko in a now-deleted tweet.
“Drunk driving multiple times he isn’t just putting his own life in danger but the life of others maybe you should talk to a young kid who parents have been killed by a drunk driver that were completely innocent and maybe you will rethink a noble man.”
Despite what anyone thinks about Danis, he certainly has point here.

UFC president Dana White is still doing all he can to make sure Khabib Nurmagomedov vs. Tony Ferguson takes place.
Amid the coronavirus pandemic, White has remained adamant that the UFC 249 headliner — as well as the full card — will still go ahead on April 18. Earlier this week, the UFC head honcho revealed he had a location but would not reveal it to the media just yet.
And based on his recent comments, it appears he may have hit a roadblock in getting it finalized. Regardless, he still has four or five locations and insists a deal will be made soon despite the curve balls getting thrown at him.
“I’m gonna try and pull off Tony vs. Khabib on April 18 and try to get some normalcy back in this country,” White told Mike Tyson on Friday (via MMA Fighting). “Every day that I work on this thing, I get another curve ball thrown at me. Every time we plan something, it falls apart — I have to re-do it, re-do it.
“I have four or five locations right now and we’re getting this deal done. And then we’re going to figure out who we can get in, who we can’t, what we can do and we’re going to build a card around it.”
White has been repeatedly criticized by the mixed martial arts media for trying to make the event happen. He has even hit back at some of those media members.
And as far as he is concerned, he’s just trying to find solutions to the problem — a problem he believes the media has made even worse:
“Everybody’s running and hiding,” White added. “I’m one of those guys that would rather get out there and find solutions. How do we figure this out? How do we beat this thing? Listen, if you’re somebody that’s a high risk, you should probably stay away and stay quarantined for a while. What happens when flu season comes again next year? What happens then?
“I think that the media has made this thing scary. People are buying all of the toilet paper there is. If you just look at a lot of things that are going on, it’s wacky and totally driven by fear. It’s very weird.”

MMA manager Ali Abdelaziz has defended the UFC for
pressing ahead with their April 18 card, saying the fighters want to compete.
The Dominance MMA CEO is one of the most powerful figures in the sport. He guides the careers of UFC stars Khabib Nurmagomedov, Henry Cejudo, Kamaru Usman and many more. Speaking to MMA Fighting, he defended the UFC for pressing ahead with events at all costs and insisted fighters want and need to compete.
“I think the UFC or any other promotion
who has fighters under contract, they have to find a solution,” Abdelaziz said.
“Because these guys, the fighters, are independent contractors. They do not get
a salary. Some of these guys make $10k and $10k, $12k and $12k, $15k and $15k
and they live paycheck to paycheck. This is how they make money and this has
been going on for 20 years.
“For you as a media member to criticize or a coach or a fighter, whoever you are, if you’re a fighter and don’t want to fight, that’s fine. Don’t fight. If the UFC is willing and Dana White is willing to put his reputation and money and getting potentially f*cking sued, put that on the line and put on a fight and the fighters are willing to fight, I don’t think anybody has the f*cking right to tell them not to put on the fight.”
The plan is for UFC 249 to go ahead
without delay despite the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. According to Abdelaziz fighters
scheduled to fight on the card don’t have to and will still be getting paid
even if they don’t.
“Dana White reached out to me and said ‘if
any of your fighters need money to support their families, reach out to me, and
they don’t have to fight if they don’t want to,” Abdelaziz said. “For me, that
means a lot. I want to go ahead and say that because that’s the truth. He
didn’t have to say that. He’s telling me if any of my fighters need money,
reach out to him. I haven’t yet but I’m sure I will.”
Abdelaziz was adamant that fighters should be given the chance to earn money despite the difficult times we find ourselves in. The powerful manager also appeared to take shots at the media who are criticising the UFC for pressing ahead with events.
“It’s about the fighters, who need to provide for their families,” Abdelaziz said. “They need to pay rent. They need to pay bills. Why can we not put on a safe event? I believe Dana White can put on a safe event. I believe Hunter [Campbell], Sean Shelby, Mick [Maynard], Dr. [Jeff] Davidson, all these guys, they’re going to take the right measurement to put on a safe event. I trust them. Some of the people who are sitting behind the computer saying they can’t but they’re the reason we’re fighting today.”
“If they can put it on in an arena with
no fans, have the fighters at the hotel and bring them one by one to the arena
with their corner men, let them do it,” Abdelaziz said. “Let them do it.
They’re the ones putting their reputations on the line. But if you’re not the
fighters, you should not talk. This is my opinion.”
Do you agree with Ali Abdelaziz about UFC
holding event despite the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic?

UFC strawweight champion Weili Zhang has stated
her desire to avoid an immediate rematch with Joanna Jedrzejczyk.
The two 115lb fighters went to war over five rounds in one of MMA’s all-time great fights at UFC 248 earlier this month. After 25 minutes of war, the judge’s scorecards read in favour of Zhang by split decision – however many believe former champion Jedrzejczyk did enough to get the decision.
Both fighters are now healing up and self-isolating in a world overcome by the coronavirus. During this time Jedrzejczyk has gone on record to call for the rematch. However, it now appears Zhang isn’t too keen on that idea. Speaking to ESPN, the 115lb champion explained why she’d prefer to fight someone else.
“I have no clue when my
next fight would be yet, since everything is stuck by this COVID-19 pandemic. I
would like to fight here in the U.S. again, since I have seen a massive number
of Chinese and Asian people here motivated by my fight who will definitely
cheer for me. Also U.S. has the biggest MMA fan base. I don’t want the rematch
yet. I would like to give opportunities to other fighters in line.”
After taking the time to reflect, Zhang wasn’t happy with her performance at UFC 248 but was glad that so many Chinese fans got to see her compete.
“I have not watched it yet, since I did not put on my best performance and showcase my best shape in training. I appreciate the support and recognition from all my fans, and I am glad they enjoyed the fight. Joanna and I both put on our toughness and will inside the Octagon to make the fight fascinating. People back in China are all very motivated and credit my hard work and show tons of respect to all athletes who compete for our country. Almost all mainstream media has interviewed me. I heard there were over 100 million views of the fight within 24 hours in China. So many fans jammed the Chinese pay-per-view website to watch it live, the server went down.”
Should Weili Zhang immediately rematch Joanna Jedrzejczyk?
