October 26 Singapore!

A post shared by Ben Askren (@benaskren) on

Askren is coming off the first loss of his professional mixed martial arts (MMA) career. He started off with a perfect record of 19-0-1 before running into Jorge Masvidal in July. Askren fell victim to the fastest knockout loss in UFC history at five seconds, eating a flying knee from “Gamebred” coming in on an immediate takedown attempt.

Now, he’ll attempt to bounce back and get back in the winner’s circle against Maia. The Brazilian jiu-jitsu ace is on a two-fight win streak, snapping a three-fight losing streak to welterweight giants Tyron Woodley, Colby Covington, and Kamaru Usman. The clash between Askren and Maia features two of the world’s best grapplers going against one another.

One minute Mike Perry was practicing an ollie, the next his skateboard fell down a sewer.

It’s easy to see why Perry is in search of new hobbies. Known for being quite a unique character, Perry isn’t one to sit still. “Platinum” suffered a gnarly broken nose following his split decision loss to Vicente Luque last month. Perry is expected to take it easy to let the nose heal.

Mike Perry’s Skateboard Falls Down A Sewer

Perry’s efforts to start a new hobby in skateboarding didn’t exactly get off to an ideal start. On his Instagram page, “Platinum” posted a video revealing the dreadful fate of his skateboard.

“Watch this sh*t lmao can’t even practice new hobbies.”

When Perry is eventually cleared to return, he’ll look to get back in the win column. Perry hasn’t been able to string together two straight wins since Sept. 2017. Since that time, “Platinum” has gone 2-4. He scored wins over Paul Felder and Alex Oliveira, but fell to Santiago Ponzinibbio, Max Griffin, Donald Cerrone, and Luque.

While Perry has had a bit of a rough go inside the Octagon lately, it isn’t all doom and gloom. Some believe Perry should’ve been awarded the win against Luque. “Platinum” also has an exciting fighting style that is always fan-friendly and he’s not too shabby in the bonus department. It also helps to have a strong personality in the Endeavor era of the UFC.

This weekend (Sat. September 7, 2019) the UFC will be live on pay-per-view (PPV) from Abu Dhabi for UFC 242.

In the main event of the night, UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov unifies his title with interim titleholder Dustin Poirier. Khabib is hoping to remain undefeated against Poirier, a man who has been on a tear at 155 pounds as of late. Also, another great 155-pound matchup takes place in the co-main event.

Edson Barboza takes on Paul Felder in what should be an explosive striking affair between two of the division’s most dynamic stand-up specialists. Ahead of the event, the Las Vegas-based promotion has released a spectacular UFC 242 Countdown special, previewing the two lightweight bouts.

Anthony Johnson is reportedly looking to come back to the Octagon in 2020 at heavyweight. The former light heavyweight title challenger last fought back at UFC 210 where he lost to Daniel Cormier.

He was massive at light heavyweight, but since his ‘retirement’ he became a bodybuilder and no doubt added more muscle and weight. At Submission Underground 9 he weighed 278 pounds.

Now, courtesy of a video from MMASound on Instagram, Anthony Johnson is hitting pads and looks massive.

It still is surprising to see Anthony Johnson wanting to return to the Octagon after what he said when he retired as he was worried about his health and CTE.

“My health, man,” Johnson said on Booker T’s Heated Conversations podcast (h/t Daily Star). “You hear about CTE and all this other stuff. Head injuries. You’re harming your body playing football and stuff like that, but this stuff can happen just as fast in mixed martial arts as any other sport because we’re constantly beating on each other. I love myself, you know what I’m saying? A lot of guys don’t think about that.”

In his career, Anthony Johnson, who is 35-years-old, is 22-6 in the UFC. He started his career out at welterweight where after just three professional fights got into the UFC. Yet, after moderate success, he was released and went to World Series of Fighting and Titan FC.

When he retuned, he did so at light heavyweight and looked much better as he went 3-0 including a knockout win over Alexander Gustafsson. He went onto to fight for the title twice but lost both bouts to Daniel Cormier. He also has notable knockout wins over Ryan Bader, Jimi Manuwa, and Glover Teixeira.

It is expected that Anthony Johnson will return in early 2020 and wants to do so against a ranked opponent.

Who do you think Anthony Johnson should fight in his heavyweight debut?
