Kevin Lee is aiming to sign with another promotion as Russian promotion Eagle FC hasn’t been hosting events due to the war in Ukraine.

Lee, a former UFC lightweight contender and welterweight prospect, recently did an interview with ESPN’s Brett Okamoto regarding his fighting future:

“There’s so much going on in the world (that) they’re not able to throw fights on. But before we even made the contract, this is why I said they gave me such a great contract in the first place, technically I’m signed with them, but I can go to different promotions too.

“You know, I could go (and) I can shop around, I’m basically a free agent right now. But I have that backup of having that contract. But they gave me such a good contract because I can move around, I can bounce around, and that’s what we’re looking to do right now. Some of these things are so unpredictable, right? Who would predict that the world would be in the place that it’s in from last year?

“So now that it’s in this space, they gave me enough freedom and flexibility that you wouldn’t get with other contracts.”

Lee continued: “Especially at my age now, I’ve got a few more years left of me really pursuing this thing that I need to give it my full and undivided attention.”

Okamoto then asked Lee if going back to the UFC is a possibility:

“That’s (idea has) been floated out there a few times, and I have thought about it, but I’m not putting no energy towards it to be honest with you. I feel like there’s so many opportunities in this sport and there’s a big opportunity now with PFL. You know they just signed Jake Paul. They’re making a lot of waves outside of the fighting realm, you know, outside of the bubble the UFC has created.

“There’s a lot of opportunity outside of it and I’m one of the most experienced guys. You can’t look at anybody who’s unsigned from the UFC that has my record, has fought the people that I’ve fought, and has my age and my upside to me either. So I would almost be hurting my leverage if I was just to straight go back with the UFC right now.

“So it’s something that I’m kind of interested (in), but it would have to be the right offer, it’d have to be the right fight, it’d have to be something other than just to say I’m a UFC fighter. I’ve been there and done that. That doesn’t do that much for me. A million dollars sounds a whole lot better.”

After stating that he’d like to fight Jake Paul in PFL’s superfight division, Lee also said he’d be interested in regular season match ups at 170 lbs, which could be very interesting to see. One could think he’s a better lightweight than welterweight, as he’s gone 0-2 thus far at 170 lbs. However, he’s also missed weight four times at 155 lbs throughout his 26-fight (19-7) career.

His lone fight in Eagle FC, which went down in March of last year, was contested at 165 lbs. But, should he sign with PFL, regular season match ups happen too often for him to consistently make the 156 lb lightweight limit.

Where would you like to see Kevin Lee end up?

Following a near flawless back-to-back years of coaching, former UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov (29-0) has decided to take a step back from MMA and retire from coaching.

The former pound-for-pound king recently posted the following message to his Instagram:

“The year certainly turned out to be a very busy and successful. Take care of yourself brothers. I hope my decision is only for the best, a big hug to you all. Thank you, you were a big reason for my success in sports.”

Nurmagomedov saw two of his students become world champions last year in 2022, as Islam Makhachev (23-1) dominantly took the UFC lightweight championship from Charles Oliveira in October via submission in round two, and Usman Nurmagomedov (16-0) was crowned Bellator lightweight champion with his 50-45 sweep of Patricky Freire a month later in November.

Together, these three talents have a combined record of 68-1, which is just astounding.

Not only is Khabib leaving his coaching position in the past, but he’s the owner of newly formed MMA organization Eagle FC; it’s a wonder what will happen regarding that, as well as who will take over his gym full of prodigies.

Perhaps they’ll stay at AKA and train under Javier Mendez?

The Russian legend participated in his final bout back in October of 2020, where he stopped interim champion Justin Gaethje in round two to make the third successful defense of his UFC lightweight crown, before unexpectedly retiring immediately following the bout.

This has come as a serious shock to most of us, as we cannot imagine it’s what his father would have wanted. But, Nurmagomedov has stated that the reason for him stepping back from combat sports is to spend more time with his family.

As we all know by now, former teammate of Conor McGregor, Dillon Danis has withdrawn from his upcoming boxing bout with KSI, which was set to go down on January 14, 2023, live from the OVO Arena Wembley in London, England.

This was to be the BJJ black belt’s first fight outside of an MMA cage, under a new rule set, prior to him pulling out on January 4, ten days before the fight was expected to take place.

KSI has since found a new opponent in Faze Temperrr, who’s 1-1 as a professional and 1-0 as an amateur, while KSI is 3-0 as a professional and 1-0-1 as an amateur. This should be an interesting match up, as Temperrr is 6’4” with a reach of 77”, while KSI is 6′ with a reach of 76”, both parties coming off knockout victories going into this bout next weekend.

Danis has been no stranger to upsetting the MMA community, and he continues to do so with the withdraw of this bout after making a true ass of himself on Ariel Helwani’s MMA Hour leading up, stating, ‘that’s the stupidest thing ever’ when told people are expecting him to pull out.

Danis also decided to no show the pre-fight press conference leading up, causing reason for suspicion.

Current no. 1 ranked UFC bantamweight contender Sean O’Malley had the following to say in regards to this match up cancellation:

“Oh yeah Dillon Danis pulled out (of his) fight against KSI. Did you hear why? He couldn’t find a coach or a team to like, work with him. He’s underprepared and he is having trouble making weight. That’s what they said. So I wonder if he even had intentions on fighting.

“But yeah KSI is fighting Faze Temperrr now.”

O’Malley continued: “I’m curious if people are going to take fights with him. Like, no one known will. He’ll be able to fight some more bums probably.”

Danis hasn’t done too well in BJJ competition since being awarded his black belt, as he’s 1-6 in his last seven, and 2-7 in his last nine in grappling. Not to mention, he hasn’t fought in MMA since 2019, he doesn’t have sponsors, he doesn’t coach BJJ. How does he get by? It’s a noteworthy question.

It appears all Dillon Danis has left is Bellator. Will we ever see him fight again?
