Zombie vs. Poirier Fight-Picking Contest: Win TrauMMA’s Korean Zombie Shirt or the No Mas Fightville Tee!

(Shirt image via TrauMMACombat.com)

In honor of Chan Sung Jung‘s upcoming fight against Dustin Poirier at UFC on FUEL 3 on Tuesday, TrauMMA Combat Apparel has released a brand-new “Korean Zombie” t-shirt that you can buy right here for $29.99. But we know that thirty bucks is hard to come by in this economy, so how ’bout we give you a chance to win one for free?

You know how this works: Submit your prediction for the Zombie vs. Poirier main event in the comments section below by Monday night at midnight ET, including the winner, method of victory, and time/round of stoppage (if applicable). No need to include judges’ scores if you’re predicting a decision, but for the purposes of a tie-breaker, please include which end-of-night bonus you think the fight will win, if you think it’ll be bonus-worthy. Your entry should look like this…

Jung def. Poirier via split-decision [Fight of the Night]
or
Poirier def. Jung via submission (triangle choke), 3:54 of round 2 [Submission of the Night]
or
Jung def. Poirier via TKO, 1:59 of round 3 [no bonus]

And there’s just one more twist…

The two closest guesses will win shirts. If you predict a victory for the Korean Zombie and you’re one of the winners, you’ll be getting TrauMMA’s Korean Zombie tee. If you predict a victory for Dustin Poirier and he wins, you’ll be getting No Mas’s super-rad Fightville tee.

…and if you correctly predict a draw, you’ll win both shirts. Make sense? Holler if you have any questions, and happy pickin’.

Does anyone really care about the UFC’s UFC on FUEL TV efforts?

Unfortunately, it seems increasingly evident that this series of live fight nights have become irrelevant in the eyes of many. Maybe it’s because it doesn’t really feature any big stars, or maybe it’s just a simple case of a lot of people not getting FUEL TV as part of their television subscription program.

No matter what the cause, the result is the same: I really don’t see much excitement for UFC on FUEL TV 3. And that’s something I’d like to correct.

So, in no particular order, here’s a jumble of reasons why you should be excited for UFC on FUEL TV 3.

“So you want to be a fighter?”

Dana White‘s iconic quote makes fans and fighters alike consider how impossibly difficult it is to compete in the Ultimate Fighting Championship. Cross-training in multiple disciplines and spending most of your time in the gym is beyond the limits of normal men and women. Perhaps that is one of the reasons that we look up to successful mixed martial artists.

Today’s article is a celebration of the fighters who go above and beyond the normal UFC schedule. We will look at fighters who fight frequently against hefty competition, and those fighters who are ready to assist Joe Silva in case a scheduled fighter is affected by injury.

In this article, we look at the UFC stars who say they will fight anyone, any time, anywhere…and actually mean it.

UFC 145 competitor Jon Jones earned his spot on this list with his fantastic 2011. One more fighter who is fighting on Saturday night made the list too. Can you guess which one?

Note: For the sake of this article, I only included fighters who are on the active UFC roster.

UFC Booking Roundup: Barao to Fight Menjivar, Jorgensen & Neer Have Next Opponents

Yesterday, the UFC announced that top bantamweights Renan Barao and Ivan Menjivar are now scheduled to meet at UFC 148. Barao, who was initially scheduled to meet Jeff Hougland at the event, confirmed the switch on his Twitter account by saying “Menjivar is my new opponent at UFC 148. I know him.” Brevity is the soul of wit, people.

Don’t be surprised if the winner of this fight meets the winner of UFC 148’s (expected) main event clash between Urijah Faber and champion Dominick Cruz. Both fighters are 3-0 in the octagon, with Menjivar coming off of a wild, back and forth fight against John Albert at UFC on FUEL, which saw “The Pride of El Salvador” take home a first round rear-naked choke victory and Submission of the Night honors. Meanwhile, Barao has gone twenty nine straight fights without a loss. His most recent fight was a dominant performance against Scott Jorgensen at UFC 143, which saw him take home a unanimous decision victory.

As for Barao’s initial opponent? Jeff Hougland will step in for an injured Mike Easton to fight Yves Jabouin at UFC on FUEL 3.

As for Barao’s initial opponent? Jeff Hougland will step in for an injured Mike Easton to fight Yves Jabouin at UFC on FUEL 3.

And speaking of Scott Jorgensen, he will look to get back in the win column against Eddie Wineland at the upcoming UFC on FX 3. Wineland has lost two straight fights, most recently losing to Joe Benavidez at UFC on Versus 5: Lytle vs. Hardy. If this fight is not win or go home for Wineland, it’s pretty damn close to it.

Also in the works for UFC on FX 3 is a bout between Mike Pyle and Josh Neer. While Twitter isn’t always the most reliable source, and this bout has not been made official by the UFC yet, Pyle recently tweeted that the bout is set. Pyle is coming off of a first round TKO victory over Ricardo Funch at UFC 142, while “The Dentist” is coming off of a first round submission victory over Duane Ludwig at UFC on FX 1.

UFC on FX 3 will be headlined by the rematch between Ian McCall and Demetrious Johnson. It is set to go down on June 8th at a location TBA.

An injury to powerhouse bantamweight Mike Easton has caused quite the shakeup for upcoming bouts within the division.

Originally scheduled to throw down with Yves Jabouin, Easton has had to withdraw from their UFC on FUEL 3 matchup. Stepping in to fill his shoes will be Jeff Hougland, who was already scheduled to face Renan Barao this summer.

Many were put off by the original pairing due to the impressive resume of Barao. In November, Brad Pickett became another name on Renan’s resume when he succumbed to a first-round submission. The Brazilian was able to follow that impressive performance with a shutout decision over former title contender Scott Jorgensen. Now that he is riding a winning streak that spans 29 contests, a booking against the untouted Hougland was deemed underwhelming to say the least.

Barao faces new competition at UFC 148, however, as Ivan Menjivar is replacing Hougland in the contest. Menjivar, a current training partner of Georges St. Pierre, is enjoying a three fight win streak of his own, after a come-from-behind victory of John Albert back in February.

“The Pride of El Salvador” is a savvy veteran who has a submission victory over Joe Lauzon and cage time against Urijah Faber and welterweight champions Georges St. Pierre and Matt Serra.

It should be assumed that the winner of this new matchup will be next in line to take on the winner of the upcoming bout between Faber and bantamweight champion Dominick Cruz.

“UFC on FUEL TV 3: Korean Zombie vs. Poirer” takes place May 15 at the Patriot Center in Fairfax, Va. Main card fights air live on FUEL TV while preliminary card fights stream on Facebook.

UFC 148 takes place July 7 at MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. It’s main card airs live on pay-per-view while preliminary card fights air on FX.
