UFC on Fuel 8 in Japan is looking to be a great event so far, headlined by sluggers Brian Stann and Wanderlei Silva. That is not the only good fight, though. The card is already stacked.
One of the fights to look forward to is between Afghani-born Siyar Bahadurzada and South Korean grappler Dong Hyun Kim. It is a great style matchup that could catapult either man into the top 10.
Here is a head-to-toe breakdown of this anticipated showdown.

Hector Lombard isn’t happy that he’s being overlooked for a shot at the UFC Middleweight Championship, and he’s calling out every title contender.
During an interview with News.com.au, “Lightning” Lombard essentially called out every top 185-pounder in the division, stating that he wants to leave no guess to who should really getting the next crack at the MMA pound-for-pound kingpin:
I just don’t want to fight guys that they say: “[Oh,] that was [an] easy match-up for him.” I want to fight the hardest match-up. I wish they (the UFC) could go now and make a pool of the toughest guys at 84kg that no one wants to fight and I want to fight that guy.
Not many people want to fight Palhares. Before we had the fight people were saying: “Hector is gone, Phalares [sic] is taking Hector’s leg back to Brazil.” I would like to fight Chris Weidman, he’s a big name. I’ve been asking for (Yushin) Okami, I’ve been asking for Okami but they (UFC) won’t give him to me because of his chin. Okami has no chin, he can’t cop the punches. And where’s Jake Shields? He’s been around forever, he beat Dan Henderson. Those are the guys I want to fight.
Originally, the UFC seemed to be angling Lombard towards title contention after a high-profile contract signing that brought the Cuban-Australian fighter up from Bellator’s own middleweight division.
But despite a long reign with Bellator’s middleweight title, three regional MMA titles, an extremely decorated Judo background and a gaudy 32-3-1 record (with one “No Contest”), a past upset to loss Tim Boetsch took away much of Lombard’s steam.
However, Lombard says that the UFC just won’t give him Anderson Silva, despite his hyped arrival into the promotion and dominant 25-1-1 stretch over nearly six years:
Let’s cut the bullshit, let’s be honest, they won’t give me Anderson Silva. We have to be realistic and talk about things that might happen.
I’ve got to take one fight at a time and one-by-one I can take them out and by the end of the year people are going to say he deserves the title shot. I want it to just be my hard work. I want people to say that no one deserves the title more than him.
Future plans aside, Lombard will have the chance to improve his 1-1 UFC record when he faces YushinOkami during the main card of UFC on Fuel 8, taking place on March 3 at the Saitama Super Arena in Japan.
That fight will support a heavy card of matches, including a main-event bout between Wanderlei Silva and Brian Stann.

UFC on FUEL TV 8 continues to get better and better. An already stacked and exciting return to Japan received another boost when YushinOkami and Hector Lombard were added in a middleweight bout with major divisional significance.
The main event of the evening is another middleweight clash.
Wanderlei Silva returns to the nation where he had the most success. Silva’s return to Japan will try to be spoiled by “All-American” Brian Stann.
But is this the best FUEL TV offering to date? On paper, yes.
As fans we have been fooled before. UFC President Dana White has been fooled before. Sometimes no matter how fantastic a card may look on paper the fights just do not deliver, and other times the cards that look like utter garbage to us are the ones that thrill from start to finish.
Previous FUEL TV cards have given us remarkable fights, but not really a card full of action from top to bottom.
The first offering was solid, and it was capped off with a fantastic fight between Jake Ellenberger and Diego Sanchez. Heavyweight’s Stefan Struve and StipeMiocic stepped up to offer a couple finishes on the main card, and so did bantamweight Ivan Menjivar as well.
The second FUEL TV show may be the current leader for best on the network, and may be tough to top.
Alexander Gustafsson and Thiago Silva was the main event that evening, but it was not the fight that helped make that card so great. That distinction falls to the undercard guys. Brian Stann knocked out AlessioSakara, SiyarBahadurzada flattened Paulo Thiago, Dennis Siver and Diego Nunes went for three rounds, DaMarques Johnson tapped out to a John Maguirearmbar and Brad Pickett finished Damacio Page.
The prelims were nothing to scoff at either. James Head, Cyrille Diabate, Francis Carmont, RezaMadadi, and Simeon Thoresen all finished their fights. The only prelim not to finish was a featherweight scrap between Jason Young and Eric Wisely.
Top to bottom that card delivered. The UFC’s return to Japan has the opportunity to do the same, but with greater impact that comes with bigger names and more significant fights.
This FUEL TV card is littered with talent who rarely, if ever, fail us.
Who else is on this card besides the two previously mentioned middleweight bouts?
Heavyweight finishers Mark Hunt and Stefan Struve will clash in the co-main event of the evening. Hunt can keep a winning streak alive and try to rally his fans with another KO performance, but he is vulnerable to submissions, which is a problem against the savvy Struve.
Diego Sanchez may be the all-time most exciting fighter in UFC history. Look at his record and look at all the remarkable battles. At UFC on FUEL he will meet another exciting lightweight in “The Fireball Kid” TakanoriGomi. The lightweight tilt has fight of the night written all over it.
Need more? SiyarBahadurzada takes on Dong Hyun Kim, MizutoHirota meets Rani Yahya, and TakeyaMizugaki returns against Bryan Caraway.
There are still three more fights that will be given to us on that early March card: Riki Fukuda vs. Brad Tavares, Cristiano Marcello vs. KazukiTokudome, and Marcelo Guimaraes vs. HyunGyuLim.
Topping that second FUEL card is a tall task, but this card has better fighters with more divisional impact. Wins can alter rankings and future matches. We are not just getting good fights, but good fights with impact. That is what fans truly want.
And we are getting it all for free. That is important to remember.
We will not be able to judge this card accurately until after the fights have transpired and we get our fix of violence, but two months out this card looks phenomenal. UFC on FUEL TV will deliver once again with a full slate of four-ounce leather flying action.
In keeping with the theme of UFC on FUEL 8’s main card — which will feature such legends as Wanderlei Silva, Takanori Gomi, and Mark Hunt — Lombard and Okami also competed for PRIDE early in their careers. Lombard lost decisions to Akihiro Gono and Gegard Mousasi under the PRIDE Bushido banner in 2006, while Okami submitted Steve White via strikes (at PRIDE The Best Vol.3 in 2002) and outpointed Ryuta Sakurai (at PRIDE Bushido 2 in 2004). Video proof is after the jump.
Though Michael Bisping might argue that he and Vitor Belfort are the only two middleweights worth a damn at the moment, another savage knockout performance from Lombard could place him in the proverbial “mix.” Your predictions for this one, please.

(Hector Lombard vs. Gegard Mousasi. Lenne Hardt absolutely kills it at 1:27-1:37.)

The fans were calling for it, and the UFC has responded in appropriate fashion.
It was announced via UFC.com that Japanese star YushinOkami will fight on his home turf when he meets Cuban-born powerhouse Hector Lombard. It is a fight that could potentially produce a top middleweight contender.
Okami, a former title challenger to Anderson Silva, recently stayed in the win column with a dominating victory against Alan Belcher at UFC 155. He used his signature grinding style to stifle any offense that Belcher offered, sweeping the judges’ scorecards to a unanimous decision.
Previous to that win, he had moved back into the win column with a TKO win over Buddy Roberts at UFC 150.
That win erased a huge comeback loss suffered at the hands of Tim Boetsch, as well as an embarrassing knockout loss to Anderson Silva back at UFC 134.
As for Lombard, the former Bellator champion’s two-fight stint in the UFC has seen mixed results.
He debuted in less-than-stellar fashion when he dropped a split decision to Boetsch at UFC 149. After that loss, many labeled him a bust.
However, he recently showed why he was worth the big bucks at UFC on FX in Australia when he clobbered RousimarPalhares in under a round.
This fight takes two top-10 fighters and pits them against each other. While Lombard is a heavy-handed striker with solid submission skills, Okami is a relentless grinder who frustrates opponents.
Fans are in for a treat, as this is on free TV. UFC on Fuel 8 takes place March 3 at the Saitama Super Arena, famous for hosting UFC 144 last year as well as a number of events during Pride.

It may be nearly two months away, but the excitement of the UFC’s return to Japan for Fuel TV’s eighth installment is already starting to build.
Not only is the international event free around the world, but the main event will feature two of the most explosive strikers in the middleweight division in Brian Stann and Wanderlei Silva.
The two power-punchers were previously set to battle back at UFC 130, but “The Axe Murderer” ultimately professed his reluctance to do so.
For Silva, one of the last remaining pioneers of MMA still competing, the fight will mark the first time he has competed in Japan following his farewell Pride bout in 2006. Japanese fans tend to love Silva’s gritty demeanor and aggressive ways, so consider him the fan favorite.
Meanwhile, Stann desperately needs a big knockout victory to reclaim any divisional title hopes he lost at the hands of Michael Bisping. The fight marks only his second overseas bout after fighting in Sweden in April.
Despite the difficulties of traveling and the familiarity with Asian culture, everything will go out the window when Silva and Stann touch gloves (presumably).
