in the midst of a four fight winning run, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu ace, Dern last featured at UFC on ABC 2 in April, besting the returning, Nina Nunes with a late opening round armbar win — subsequently becoming the most prolific strawweight grappler in the history of the promotion with four separate submission stoppage victories.

11-1 as a professional, Arizona-born grappler, Dern has managed to take an eye-catching six wins from seven Octagon walks, dispatching Ashley Yoder, Amanda Cooper, Hannah Cifers, Randa Markos, Virna Jandiroba, as well as the aforenoted, Nunes.

Taking headlining honors against Dern is Rio Grande do Sul native, Rodriguez, who enters the main event bout off the back of a two-fight winning run — the last of which came against strawweight mainstay, Michelle Waterson in a UFC Vegas 26 main event back in May.

Rodriguez, a product of Dana White‘s Contender Series — has also managed a knockout victory over common-foe, Amanda Ribas, as well as a pair of unanimous decision triumphs over Tecia Torres and Jessica Aguilar.

Headlining the event, a light heavyweight matchup between the #5 ranked contender and one-time undisputed light heavyweight championship challenger, Thiago Santos, and his compatriot, the charismatic #10 rated challenger, Johnny Walker.

Rio de Janeiro native, Santos enters his fourth main event tilt under the promotion’s banner, as he hopes to bring an end to a three-fight losing skid.

Last featuring at UFC 259 in March, Santos suffered a rather forgettable unanimous decision defeat against Aleksandar Rakic, which came off the back of a November submission loss to Glover Teixeira, and a close split decision loss to former two-time light heavyweight champion, Jon Jones in July 2019.

In three wins at 205lbs, Santos has knocked out the trio of Eryk Anders, Jimi Manuwa, and lodged a third round knockout win over reigning division champion, Jan Blachowicz back in February 2019.

Top-10 contender, Walker is a product of Dana White’s Contender Series and bounced back to the winner’s enclosure following two straight losses with a September knockout win over recent UFC Vegas 37 headliner, Ryan Spann.

Prior to his rallying effort against Spann, Walker dropped a unanimous decision loss to Nikita Krylov, as well as a notable knockout loss to Corey Anderson. In a trio of other knockout wins, Walker bested Justin Ledet, Khalil Rountree Jr., as well as a massive flying knee stoppage over Misha Cirkunov.

Next up, we have a heavyweight matchup between Jairzinho Rozenstruik and Curtis Blaydes.

Rozenstruik is coming off a fantastic knockout over Augusto Sakai. The only two losses of his career are from Francis Ngannu and Ciryl Gane. On the other side, Curtis Blaydes is coming off a devastating KO loss on behalf of a Derrick Lewis uppercut.

Round 1: The two big heavyweights start off in the middle. Rozenstruik hits a clean combo to start it off. Blaydes is trying to establish his jab early. Blaydes shoots and trips Rozenstruik off the cage. He works in side control and lands a few short elbows. Rozenstruik hits a few elbows of his own off the bottom. Blaydes lands a few knees to Rozenstruik’s side. Blaydes gets a few right hands in and takes Rozenstruik back. Blaydes hits 3 rights in a row. Rozenstruik gets back up against the cage by controlling Blaydes’s wrist. Blaydes continues to switch stances and work leg kicks. Rozenstruik hits a few body strikes with a left and a right. Blaydes continues to work off his jab from both stances. Rozenstruik tries closing the distance but is struggling to reach Blaydes with a powerful punch.

Round 2: The two fighters start in the middle again. Rozenstruik hits a left-right combo on Blaydes. Blaydes continues to work the jab. Boos rain down as the two eyes each other up in the middle of the octagon. Blaydes lands a leg kick and Rozenstruik answers back with a left. Blaydes hit a left straight that gets Rozenstruik attention a bit. There is mutual respect from the two fighters as they are tentative to push too fast in fear of getting caught. Rozenstruik lands a huge flying knee with a left hand behind it. Blaydes scores a takedown to retaliate and passes into half guard. Blaydes hits Rozenstruik with a few body shots while his forearm is driven into Rozenstruik’s neck. Blaydes finishes the round in half guard. Blaydes eye is swollen completely shut from the knee.

Round 3: The third round starts off with another stalemate of mutual respect. Both fighters are working their jab. Blaydes from southpaw Rozenstruik from an orthodox stance. Blaydes hits a nice counter left hook after Rozenstruik tried a right hook and missed. Blaydes continues to work the leg kick and scores another takedown. Blaydes is working landing strikes from the full guard of Rozenstruik. Rozenstruik had a quick second to get up but didn’t take advantage. Blaydes advances to half guard. Blaydes then lands a few short left elbows on the side of Rozenstruik’s head. Blaydes has over 5 minutes of control time with 1 minute left to go in the round. Blaydes continues to work in the half guard and the horn sounds.

The UFC 266 main card starts now! Andrade looks to get back in the win column after losing her title fight against Valentina Shevchenko. Calvillo also looks to get a win after losing her last fight to Katlyn Chookagian.

Round 1: The two meet in the middle of the octagon. Andrade hits a low kick. Andrade stalks Calvillo and hits another leg kick. Calvillo tries a head kick, misses. Andrade hits with a powerful right hook. Calvillo then answers with a leg kick. Andrade continues to stalk Calvillo. Calvillo gets hit with a huge right hand. Calvillo continues to circle left to Andrade’s power hand. Andrade lands a couple of left hooks. Calvillo is landing, but not with the same power of Andrade. Andrade swarms Calvillo with a few hooks. Calvillo circles away from Andrade to the middle of the octagon. Both fighters are utilizing leg kicks. Calvillo continues to work the jab, but not very clean or powerful. Andrade cracks her with a huge uppercut and hook. She swarms Calvillo with a flurry of right hooks and uppercuts. Herb Dean calls the fight with less than 10 seconds in the first round.

Taking main event status at UFC 266; an undisputed featherweight championship fight between reigning division best, Alexander ‘The Great’ Volkanovski and the #2 ranked contender, Brian ‘T-City’ Ortega.

Undefeated throughout his tenure under the UFC’s banner, City Kickboxing mainstay, Volkanovski lodged his first successful defense of the featherweight title at UFC 251 in July of last year, defeating former champion and two-time opponent, Max Holloway with a close, split decision victory.

For Ortega, the Los Angeles native returned to the Octagon in the main event of UFC Fight Island 6 last October where he rebounded to the winner’s enclosure with a dominant unanimous decision victory over Chan Sung Jung.

In the night’s co-headlining bout, as part of a championship doubleheader — reigning flyweight champion, Valentina ‘Bullet’ Shevchenko looks to tie former bantamweight champion, Ronda Rousey for most successful title defenses, when she clashes with the surging challenger, ‘Lucky’ Lauren Murphy.

Featuring as part of a title tripleheader at UFC 261 in April, Shevchenko managed a dominant second round knockout win over former strawweight champion, Jessica Andrade.

Undefeated in her last five outings, Alaska native, Murphy met with Joanne Calderwood at UFC 263 in June, where she edged out a close split judging win to set up her premier title challenge under the UFC’s banner.

In a featured main card bout, former welterweight title challenger, Nick Diaz makes his first Octagon appearance in six and a half years as he draws former opponent and one-time welterweight champion, ‘Ruthless’ Robbie Lawler in a middleweight rematch, 17-years in the making.

Diaz’s last outing came against former middleweight titleholder, Anderson Silva in the main event of UFC 183 in January 2015, in an eventual official ‘No Contest’ ruling.

For San Diego knockout artist, Lawler, he suffered a unanimous decision loss against Neil Magny in August of last year in a relatively short-notice bout. Initially meeting in April 2004 at UFC 47, Diaz, who made his Octagon bow that night, scored a massive one-punch second round knockout.
