The Ultimate Fighting Championship had initially been seeking a stadium venue in Sao Paolo, Brazil for this summer’s expected UFC 147 event, but due to a lack of available venues the promotion is headed back to Rio de Janeiro and is looking for a venue there to seat 80,000 fans.

UFC president Dana White revealed the details during Wednesday’s press conference from Calgary, Alberta, Canada to announce the upcoming UFC 145 event.

No specific venue was named, but the UFC 147 show is expected to take place on either June 16th or June 23rd.

Headlining the event will be a UFC middleweight title rematch between champion Anderson Silva and challenger, Chael Sonnen. Both men faced off in August 2010 in the main event of UFC 117. Sonnen surprised most everyone by controlling the fight for most of the fight, only to wind up losing in the last round via triangle/armbar choke.

Sonnen earned his title shot by defeating Michael Bisping at the UFC on FOX 2 show this past January. While ‘The Spider’ last saw action at UFC 134 last August by defeating Yushin Okami.

This stadium event would surpass the UFC’s largest event, UFC 129, which saw 55,724 fans pack the Rogers Centre in Toronto, Ontario last April.

Verbal agreements are in place between former UFC middleweight contender Demian Maia (15-4), who drops to 170-lbs for the first time, and the ‘Stun Gun’ Dong Hyun Kim (15-1-1, 1NC). Both men are set to meet as part of UFC 148.

The announcement was made official today at UFC.com.

Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt Demian Maia will drop to welterweight and be welcomed by the super-tough 15-1 Korean judo expert Dong Hyun Kim.

UFC 148 is expected to take place on July 7, 2012 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. The event has had a slew of bouts added over the past few days including matches between Tito Ortiz vs. Forrest Griffin, Rich Franklin vs. Cung Le, and Michael Bisping vs. Tim Boetsch.

Maia will test the waters of the UFC’s welterweight division this summer and enters this match on a 1-2 record over his last three Octagon appearances. The Brazilian has fought to a unanimous decision seven straight times, managing a 4-3 record. His last bout was a loss to Chris Weidman last January at the UFC on FOX 2 show, while his last win took place in October at UFC 136 with a decision over Jorge Santiago.

The ‘Stungun’ bounced back from a knockout loss to interim UFC welterweight champ Carlos Condit last summer by earnign a decision against Sean Pearson last December at UFC 141. The loss to Condit at UFC 132 was the first official defeat of Kim’s career having gone 6-1-1 with the UFC. The “No Contest” was initially scored a split decision loss to Karo Parisyan at UFC 94, but a positive test for banned painkillers by Parisyan saw the outcome changed to a “NC”.

In the ongoing saga of Quinton “Rampage” Jackson vs. The UFC, many fans have become disgruntled with the former champion for blaming everyone but himself for his recent troubles.

Jackson spoke with Sherdog and finally took some accountability for his now-rough relationship with the UFC and Dana White.

“I know I messed up the relationship by doing the movie over fighting Rashad Evans,” Jackson said. “It was my fault. I’ve got to keep it real. I did that. I messed up. I should have honored my contract and fought Rashad after ‘The Ultimate Fighter.’ … Before that Dana and I was really cool. I was really cool with the UFC, Lorenzo [Fertitta] and everybody. We were all cool, but I messed up the relationship by doing the movie and I’m aware of that.” (Sherdog.com)

“Rampage” was supposed to face Evans after their coaching stints on The Ultimate Fighter at an event that took place in Jackson’s hometown of Memphis, Tenn. Instead, Jackson pulled out of the bout midseason, which completely ruined the on-screen tension between the two superstars.

Not only did Jackson take time away from MMA to make and market the movie, he also ballooned up to around 250 pounds.

Cutting all of that weight clearly hindered his performance when Jackson finally met Evans at UFC 114, but Jackson would come back with two straight wins over Lyoto Machida and Matt Hamill.

Being in the greatest shape of his UFC career against Jon Jones couldn’t help him win the title, and “Rampage” was set to face off against Ryan Bader at UFC 144.

This is where the drama really picked up, as Jackson missed weight and looked like a shell of his former self as Bader easily dominated “Rampage.”

Jackson attributed the injury to a knee injury and repeatedly made mention of the fact of fighting hurt in pre and post-fight interviews. Jackson wasn’t looking for pity, but rather appreciation.

I just feel like the UFC knows when I’m injured, but at the same time, when I don’t pull out of a fight and I still fight, I think they should basically more than thank me,” Jackson said. “In my opinion, I feel like Dana kind of disrespected me a little bit by saying the three words that he did say. (Sherdog.com)

“Rampage” did say he understands the UFC’s business model by not putting a fighter above the brand of the UFC, but still said he needed to concern himself with his own “brand.”

I feel them on that because anything that happens to a fighter –and [a fighter] can just be gone, get hurt — and they put all this money into promoting this fighter, then they ain’t got no product no more,” Jackson said. “I understand that. I just want the UFC to understand that I have to promote my own brand.” (Sherdog.com)

Jackson will rematch with Mauricio “Shogun” Rua in his final UFC bout after going through double knee surgery. So where will one of the most popular fighters in MMA history take his talents after his UFC contract is up?

According to Jackson, “whoever wants to promote me like I should be promoted.”

The UFC president Dana White named the headliner for “The Ultimate Fighter” season fifteen finale, pitting welterweights Martin ‘Hitman’ Kampmann (19-5) and Jake ‘The Juggernaut’ Ellenberger (27-5) against one another for the June 1st Vegas show.

The announcement was made on Wednesday.

The “TUF 15 Finale” is expected for June 1st at the Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas, Nevada and will feature several lightweight matchups between the reality series cast.

Kampmann is coming off a submission win over Thiago Alves earlier this month in Australia. The victory was the ‘Hitman’s’ second straight, which includes a decision win over Rick Story last November at UFC 139.

Ellenberger has won six straight, earning a “Fight of the Night” bonus and a decision win over Diego Sanchez last month in the main event of UFC on FUEL TV 1. Previous to that, ‘The Juggernaught’ earned wins over Jake Shields, Sean Pierson, Carlos Rocha, John Howard and Mike Pyle.
