Former UFC champion and MMA legend Vitor Belfort has sent a scary call out to YouTube celebrity Jake Paul.
Belfort is currently preparing for his long-awaited and eagerly anticipated ONE Championship debut. Paul has transitioned to boxing in 2020 and looked good against extremely low-level opposition. The 23-year-old scored a highlight reel KO against former NBA player Nate Robinson on the undercard of Mike Tyson vs. Roy Jones Jr. in November.
In a recent interview with LowKickMMA Belfort was critical of Paul who has been chasing a boxing match with MMA newbie and BJJ wizard Dillon Danis, he said.
“He challenges guys that are really easy to beat. (Danis) has barely started his career in MMA. He’s a grappler, he doesn’t know how to strike. I’m sorry, but he’s weak in striking. So, find someone your size. When you call someone out, you call them out for 2 reasons: you can make a lot of money, or you can win. That’s how they call people out. Why he doesn’t want to call me out?
A few weeks later and Belfort has now issued a stern warning to Paul about how a potential fight between the two would end.
“Listen man. You want respect you come in to my world. This is my kingdom. Your kingdom is doing YouTube videos for this young generation.” Belfort said. “When I was a champion, you were born. You were just coming to this world. I’m going to put you to sleep. Put you on your knees. And listen, with all the respect that I have, not for you, but for your fans. I’m going to show them who you are. You are ‘Joke’ Paul. You’re not Jake Paul. You are Joke Paul. I put you on my lap. Let’s go to sleep baby.” (Transcribed by BJPENN.com)

You won’t find MMA legend Vitor Belfort joining the outcry against the overmatched booking any time soon.
Sitting down to talk to LowKickMMA, the former UFC light heavyweight champion was asked about the upcoming exhibition boxing match between the 50-0 Floyd Mayweather and YouTube star Logan Paul, who dropped his debut match against fellow internet star KSI. Though many fans have dismissed the bout as a farce, Belfort sees the logic in the matchmaking.
“(Mayweather)’s brilliant in business… as a businessman in fighting, he’s one of the greatest,” Belfort said. “He really knows how to make money, how to create value. He sees an opportunity and he says, ‘Why do I need to fight a great fighter if I can fight a YouTuber and give what people want to see?’ Remember, they want to see something different. They don’t want to see boxing anymore. And that’s why the promoters need to open their eyes and say, ‘We need to become entertaining as well.’
“I don’t doubt the UFC is going to start putting YouTubers to fight,” Belfort continued. “That’s where the money is going to go. Because why? Because people want to see that. They don’t want to see the fighters. The fighters kill, they put their lives on the line, and (fans) don’t want to buy. But now you have a YouTuber fighting… they want to see it. So, you got to go where… as a promoter, it’s a different mindset. I think he really saw an opportunity.”
Belfort also thinks there might be another reason why Mayweather isn’t looking for fights against other combat sport athletes, such as The Phenom himself.
“Why (doesn’t) Mayweather fight me?” Belfort asked. “Mayweather, instead of fighting a YouTuber, can fight me. For example, I wear big gloves, he can wear headgear. But that would be a fight. Now, he’s fighting a professional fighter. (Paul)’s a professional YouTuber. Why (Mayweather) doesn’t fight me? Maybe I can only throw 2 hard punches in the round. You can put some fun rules, but now you have the weight problem. The rules of Nevada… in boxing, you can’t fight in openweight.”
Despite his ability to see the silver lining around Logan Paul’s matchup, Belfort was less enthusiastic about Jake Paul’s callout of MMA fighters following his knockout win over former NBA star Nate Robinson.
“Like I said, who’d he (fight)? A basketball player. It’s like me playing basketball. It’s like this: ‘Vitor, you’re a great fighter that maybe can play basketball. But that doesn’t make me a basketball player. The guy was ridiculous. The guy didn’t even know how to fight.”
However, Belfort wasn’t entirely negative towards the younger Paul brother.
“The kid looks good. I like the YouTuber. (Jake) looks good, he looks sharp. He throws a nice overhand, it really looks like he was training… I really think if I had a chance to work with him, he could be really dangerous in hand-to-hand combat. He hits hard. But like I said, now he’s in entertaining, so you’re open for so many people to say, ‘Oh, I challenge this guy, I challenge this guy.’
“He challenges guys that are really easy to beat,” Belfort continued. “(Danis) has barely started his career in MMA. They’re always going to call (you out) if they can win or if they can make money. I think that’s where we’re going right now. It’s another avenue of business being created as we speak.”
Like all things, only time will tell who is right about the matchup. Boxing matches between Mayweather and two-division UFC champ Conor McGregor, as well as a recent fight between 54-year-old Mike Tyson and 51-year-old Roy Jones Jr., were also scoffed at, only to each draw in well over a million pay-pay-view buys. Perhaps Belfort is right, and celebrity fights will be the things of the future. Because whether people are tuning in as a joke or out of genuine curiosity, promoters can ride them to the bank.
What do you think about Vitor Belfort’s comments? Will we see YouTubers in the UFC octagon any time soon?

Former UFC light heavyweight champion, Vitor ‘The Phenom’ Belfort is regarded as one of the most ferocious mixed martial artists of all-time, and a real pioneer of the sport in his native Brazil. An incredible twenty-four-year veteran, Belfort, who is still waiting on his ONE Championship debut outing gave his thoughts on the ever-evolving conversation of the sport’s greatest of all time.
One of the most devastating finishers in the sport’s antiquity, Belfort has notched a staggering eighteen knockout victories from twenty-six professional wins, competing for undisputed UFC gold in both the light heavyweight and middleweight division on four separate occasions.
“So it’s like depending on how you see a G.O.A.T. and how you see the legend — how you see values,” Belfort said. “It’s like this, people value things differently. It’s so crazy, the values of today is so worthless. The Tik Tok generation value more followers than and how much followers you have on Instagram than how much people really follow you. So, people, they are more successful with how much (sic) like they have on a post than how much like they have from their personal friends, and from their personal family.“
Giving his opinion on who could possibly end up sitting at the top of the pile, Belfort noted the likes of Jon Jones, Georges St-Pierre, Khabib Nurmagomedov, and Henry Cejudo — detailing how each of them has an argument to G.O.A.T. status on their own merits.
“Speaking about [the] value of G.O.A.T. for me is like when I’m gonna value a legend, a G.O.A.T., the best, it’s not just how many wins,” Belfort said. “[It’s] how many times he overcame something, how many times that person turned it. So — no doubt about it, Jon Jones is one on the top of the list, we have Georges St-Pierre, we have the Russian, you know, Khabib (Nurmagomedov), you have — you have so many guys on the list.“
“You have Henry Cejudo, you have so many,” Belfort said. “It’s such a unique sport that is so many divisions, so many champions. You have Dominick Cruz, you know — guys that overcame problems, trials [and tribulations], they went down and they reinvent themselves and they went back again. Maybe they never became a champion, but they are so good, you know like the Diaz brothers (Nick and Nate Diaz). People that never had a chance to win a title but they are very good contenders and they are right there on the top.
From Belfort’s stunning eighteen professional knockout wins, the Rio de Janeiro striker has scored memorable victories over the likes of Wanderlei Silva, Marvin Eastman, Randy Couture, Matt Lindland, Rich Franklin, Anthony Johnson, Michael Bisping, Luke Rockhold, and Dan Henderson (x2).
Vitor Belfort says he is down to fight long-time middleweight contender Yoel Romero who was recently released from the UFC. Romero was shockingly cut last week after losing three consecutive fights against elite 185lb fighters Israel Adesanya, Paulo Costa, and Robert Whittaker. UFC boss Dana White pointed to the Cuban’s poor form and age (44) as key reasons behind his release from the promotion.
Belfort has not competed since ending his UFC run with defeat against Lyoto Machida at UFC 224 in 2018. In March 2019 he signed to fight with ONE Championship but as 2020 comes to a close ‘The Phenom’ is still in search of an opponent to debut against.
“For sure,” Belfort said when asked if he’d fight Romero” Come on man, that guy is a beast and my age so that would be great. That would be a great fight too.”
Belfort understands from a business perspective why Romero was cut by the UFC who he says are now in such a powerful position fighters are willing to fight for free and fans are willing to watch a lesser product.
“I see what Dana says. I see a huge market being created now,” Belfort said. ”It’s very easy to see how UFC market. They want young guys. They wanna pay not a lot of money for these young guys. And they want people because people want to fight for the UFC for free. So, Dana’s (like) why am I paying these guys a lot of money if I have this guy and they want to fight for free?
“Now the UFC (has) created a brand they don’t’ need more athletes. So they don’t value. Even Jon Jones they don’t have value that much. Maybe (Conor) McGregor but they don’t want to put the money behind the fighters because they have a very good business model where I don’t have to pay to have the viewership. I can pay (fighters) less and still have the same viewership.”

Former UFC Light Heavyweight champion Vitor Belfort has called for fights against “legends” Anderson Silva and Chael Sonnen.
The Brazilian is currently signed for ONE Championship, however he is yet to make his promotional debut due to the pandemic.
Speaking with TMZ Sports Belfort said “Listen, I told my agent, ‘Come on man, stop the bs. Tell them to sign the contract. Get these legends.’ I heard that Anderson Silva got released, so we got some (potential opponents). I want Chael Sonnen, I really want to shut his mouth. We were supposed to fight one time but he got caught up in steroids or whatever it was, drugs. I’m ok with it. You can take whatever you want. I will beat your ass. Chael Sonnen, let’s go man.”
Belfort then goes on to talk about Sonnen and his trash talking antics “Chael knows. Chael, listen man, you’re a big talker, you’re a great salesman, let’s go. You will sell the fight and after I whip you, your mom is going to root for me. Chael’s family likes Vitor Belfort, they don’t like Chael. Even his family don’t like Chael.”
Then when speaking about Silva the 43-year-old said “Anderson you know, he’s living off off that kick so forget it. Let’s go. It’s time to go. I’m a fine wine and so unfortunately in sports, they don’t treat the finer wines so well. But look, Tom Brady and Drew Brees and many other athletes are proving wrong and I think if we can bring the legends back in an entertaining segment with fights that makes sense, I’m all in.” (Transcribed by BJPENN.com)
Belfort previously faced Anderson Silva for the UFC Middleweight title at UFC 126 in Las Vegas when Silva landed the famous front kick in the first round to retain his title. While Belfort was expected to face Sonnen at UFC 175 however, Sonnen failed a random drug test which resulted in him being removed from the bout.

Vitor Belfort is the latest high profile fighter to call out former heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar who is currently a free agent after opting against re-signing with the WWE.
Belfort, who is currently signed to ONE Championship called for out Lesnar during a recent interview with Submission Radio.
“Brock Lesnar, I think you’re a fraud. But I’ll give you a chance. I think you’re a fraud. If you really want to fight with me, let’s go bare hands, me and you. We put the gloves, we go combat, you know? I know you’re a very tough man. I heard you’re a grappler, but I’ll fight you, man. I’ll fight you any day, any time, and I think that’s a legendary fight right there. But I think he’s a fraud in MMA. But, you know, he comes from WWE, he knows how to sell, but for MMA, he doesn’t like to get hit. And I’m telling you, I can hit him pretty hard. So, let’s do BMA, me and you. You’re a big man, I got you. I’m willing to fight big men, man. I’m not scared. The king of the jungle is the Lion, not the Elephant. So, Brock Lesnar, you’re right down my alley, my friend.”
Belfort went on to explain exactly why he thinks Lesnar is a “fraud”.
“Fraud because he never paved the way, man. He never fought MMA. He went there and he got a chance. He fought for the belt after one fight. Listen, I tell this to everyone, you listen to me very clearly, the only sport in the world, the only sport in the world where you can come in from any other sport, is MMA. An MMA fighter can never cross to football. They can never cross. Michael Jordan tried to cross from baseball and he couldn’t make it. Why? Because you have a process to make it. So, that’s what it is. We need to understand that MMA, a combat sport. Even YouTubers can fight. Even like if you’re a hockey player you can come and fight in these rules. That’s why it’s good, man, that’s what makes MMA so possible. You don’t need to have a career, you can make a career and you can become a persona and people can like you and they can buy you. Look at what Kimbo Slice did. And some make it. I take my hats off to the gangster, Masvidal. Because he really paid his way, man. People don’t realise, that guy paid his way. He deserves it. So, I respect fighters that really paid their way. They deserve to be in the spotlight. But, you know, I understand he can be in the spotlight of WWE. So, that’s what I mean. A fraud for MMA is this. He doesn’t deserve it, but he sells, man. Let’s go Brock. I’ll put my hands on you. That would be nice. I’ll make him pink.”
