Vitor Belfort has his eyes on Tommy Fury next time out.

Belfort is set to return at Triller Triad Combat 2 on February 26 against Chad Dawson. The former UFC champion is coming off the TKO win over Evander Holyfield in an exhibition bout in Triller Fight Club Legends 2 back in September.

Now, even before he returns against Dawson, Belfort has his eyes on Fury and wants that fight next. He believes it makes sense as he doesn’t think the Brit should be focused on fighting Jake Paul. Instead, Belfort says Fury should want to face a real fighter.

“I will fight him anytime,” Belfort told theScore. “Tommy Fury, it’s a shame you were going to fight Jake Paul. Fighting a YouTuber is a shame. (Paul) is a piece of shit. Not as a person —as a fighter. Tommy Fury, I’m up to the challenge,” he continued. “Let’s make this duel.”

Fury, of course, was scheduled to fight Paul in the main event of a Showtime boxing pay-per-view card in December. However, the undefeated boxer was forced out of the bout with broken ribs and an infection.

Since he pulled out, Tommy Fury campaigned to get the fight rebooked, but Belfort clearly hopes that doesn’t happen. Although Belfort is a former UFC champion, Fury would get more eyes on him if he were to box Paul and defeat him. It would also be a bigger payday for the Brit.

At this time, it does seem unlikely Fury would box Belfort, as the Brazilian has his own fight on February 26. Should he win, then perhaps it might make sense, but Fury has yet to respond.

What do you make of Vitor Belfort calling out Tommy Fury and who do you think would win a fight between the two?

Vitor Belfort will be making his return to competition in February 2022 when he takes on former boxing champion Chad Dawson at Triller Triad Combat II.

The first Triller Triad combat event took place last month, with Frank Mir, Matt Mitrione, and “Platinum” Mike Perry among those competing in the “MMA vs. Boxing” hybrid-themed event. Triad Combat features a unique ruleset that attempts to bridge the two sports into an even playing field within a triangular ring and two-minute rounds.

After disposing of a 58-year-old Evander Holyfield in September, Belfort will now move on to a younger opponent in 39-year-old former light heavyweight boxing champion Chad Dawson.

Chad Dawson has a professional boxing record of 36-5. He is currently on a two-fight winning streak and has won four of his last five fights. His opponent, Belfort, is a very familiar name for MMA fans. The former UFC light heavyweight champion has been under the public spotlight since the age of 19, with a professional MMA record of 26-14.

It was also announced yesterday that Junior dos Santos will be headlining this card opposite accomplished Bulgarian boxer Kubrat Pulev.

This event will be broadcast on TrillerFightClub.com and FITE. The venue and precise date are yet to be revealed.

Vitor Belfort Accused Of Ducking Kubrat Pulev

Vitor Belfort has been accused of ducking a fight with Kubrat Pulev.

The Bulgarian, who is now set to face Frank Mir at Triad Combat on November 27, was originally aiming to fight Belfort in an attempt to get revenge for Evander Holyfield who was recently stopped by ‘The Phenom’.

Belfort realised he was going to fight a real heavyweight, in shape and capable. So I’m sure he did some maths, and coming off the victory against Holyfield, I don’t think he wanted to get smashed, because that’s what Kubrat was going to do, he was going to get a little revenge here for the boxing world,” Pulev’s promoter Ivaylo Gotzev told Betway.

“I believe Belfort came to the realisation that he was going to have to fight a real heavyweight. Vitor, although he fought in the heavyweight division, he is a smaller guy and I believe he backed out, whatever his reasons were. All I know is he backed out and Frank Mir has stepped in, another southpaw but a big one, a true heavyweight and former UFC champion that should make for a good scrap with the new rules.”

“Junior Dos Santos was also mentioned, and he backed out, Vitor Belfort was mentioned and he backed out, Fedor Emeilianenko has just made a comeback but I believe he has a relationship with Bellator. But we want to try out Triad and fight a big man like Frank, we’ll then see where we go from there, we’ll look for the top MMA fighters and carry on with that.”

Vitor Belfort Is Unlikely To Face Oscar De La Hoya Or David Haye

Belfort is expected to return to the boxing ring in the first few months of 2022.

According to his trainer, Derik Santos, the former UFC champion is unlikely to reschedule a fight with Oscar De La Hoya

“It’s likely Vitor will return in the first quarter of next year,” Santos said. “I see Vitor being busy for another year then he’ll probably re-evaluate. I think after a year he’ll move onto new chapters of his life.”

“We have not heard from Oscar De La Hoya, I don’t think we’ll see Oscar back in the ring,” Santos said. “We know he had a problem with Vitor’s rehydration clause. I really think there were some issues there and the writing was on the wall in terms of that fight falling through. I don’t think Oscar was ever training like he said he was training.

Santos also ruled out a fight between Belfort and Haye for very different reasons.

“David Haye is a tool,” Santos said. “He has nothing to talk about. He’s disappointed British fans on more than one occasion. He went 12 rounds and did nothing with a supposed broken toe, not throwing any other punch but a flinging jab against Klitchsko. He fleeced everybody with Klitschko. And then had the nerve to come out here with Fournier, walk around with his buddy and get paid for that, and then call out Tyson Fury. He’s a tool.

“Nobody over here cares about David Haye at all. They all think he’s a tool. Most people here can’t stand him. He has no idea what he’s talking about. He has no idea how hard Vitor Belfort trained to get back. He’s irrelevant. His fight with Fournier was a total farce of a fight. For that reason I’d want nothing to do with anything that puts a ton of money in David Haye’s pocket. I rule him out for Vitor’s next fight. He’s irrelevant, nobody cares about him here, there’s no interest in that at all.”

Michael Bisping Compares Paulo Costa To “Vitor Belfort On Steroids”

Former UFC Middleweight Champion Michael Bisping has compared Paulo Costa’s size at UFC Vegas 41 to that of his bitter rival Vitor Belfort “on steroids.”

The lead-up to this past weekend’s main event wasn’t without controversy. Costa was scheduled to meet fellow former title challenger Marvin Vettori in a middleweight contest on the Apex’s 41st Fight Night card. After revealing his size and inability to make the 186-pound limit during fight week, the bout was first moved to a 195-pound catchweight, before being bumped up again to light heavyweight.

Despite many criticizing Costa’s conduct, the seemingly light 20% purse penalty, and suggesting Vettori should have refused to face “The Eraser,” both men delivered a thrilling brawl in Saturday’s headliner. While he appeared to tire early, Costa maintained his power and hard-hitting style until the 25th minute. But while he found some success and hit Vettori with some clean shots, it was “The Italian Dream” who pushed the pace and landed at a higher volume. After five rounds, Vettori was awarded a unanimous decision victory.

Costa Reminds Bisping Of An Old Rival

Whilst many have continued to slam Costa in the aftermath of the memorable Fight of the Year contender, UFC Hall of Famer Michael Bisping has made sure to credit “Borrachinha” for his performance on the night.

However, he also didn’t forget to give the Brazilian the criticism he deserved after the way he acted in the days leading up to his contest with Vettori. Speaking during an appearance on The MMA Hour this week, “The Count” described the weight debacle as “inexcusable.”

“I take my hat off to both of them. What an incredible fight… Regarding the weight-cutting thing, I’m always hard on people who don’t make weight. There’s only two things we can control, you turn up in shape, and on weight. If you’re not doing that, you’re not fulfilling your contractual and your professional obligations. You’re disrespecting the sport, you’re disrespecting your opponent, your team, and you’re disrespecting yourself as well.

“I like Paulo. I’m a fan of his and the way he carries himself, I have no issue with him. But that whole debacle was kind of inexcusable. He wasn’t apologetic, he didn’t really care, it was 195 (pounds) then it was 205. It’s not what you wanna see. It was very regrettable. But, it’s in the past and Marvin got the win anyway. Had he been beaten, I think I’d feel differently and I think a lot of people, especially Marvin, would feel differently.”

Bisping went on to laud both Costa and Vettori for putting on an entertaining fight. The Englishman especially praised the Italian for withstanding the powerful shots Costa was landing. Commenting on the Brazilian’s size and strength, Bisping compared “The Eraser” to “Vitor Belfort on steroids.”

“He [Vettori] got the win, and he got the win in an incredible fight. I mean, how Marvin Vettori took those shots, took that head kick. Costa was ripping to the body. of course, Vettori out landed him, he was working busier, but the big, nasty, disgusting shots that echoed around the bloody Apex when they landed, all belonged to Costa. And he looked gigantic in there. Marvin’s a big guy, he’s a big, strong, scary dude, but Costa looked like the Incredible Hulk, he almost looked like Vitor Belfort on steroids… he was scary, but Marvin took all those shots and never took a backward step pretty much. I have so much respect for both men.”

Bisping and Belfort had a well-documented feud. The pair collided in the Octagon at UFC on FX 7. In the main event, “The Phenom” finished “The Count” with a brutal head kick in the second round. As a result, Bisping suffered a detached retina, which has led to further eye complications in the years since.

Bisping’s issue with Belfort derives from the fact the Brazilian was using testosterone replacement therapy at the time of their fight. The former 185-pound champ has previously slammed his former opponent for, in his mind, cheating and gaining an unfair advantage in order to hurt people.

Vitor Belfort signed with ONE Championship in 2019 but he never made an appearance for the promotion and now their CEO, Chatri Sityodtong explained why.

Belfort announced his retirement in December of 2018, yet in March of 2019, he signed a deal with ONE. He was then supposed to make his debut against Alan Ngalani in April of 2020 but after COVID-19 canceled events, the promotion and Belfort parted ways. Why they decided to part ways was simple, according to Sityodtong, Belfort only wanted legend fights.

“In a nutshell, Vitor joined ONE and we had this big vision that he was going to still be fighting in his prime. And I think he realized that he wanted these special fights. We wanted to put kind of a young lion – old lion storylines, but we just could never see eye-to-eye,” Sityodtong said on MMA Fighting’s MMA Hour about Belfort (via Sportskeeda). “There was just a mismatch in terms of what he wanted and what we wanted, and we tried. Both sides tried really hard. He offered a lot of different opponents. We offered a lot of different opponents and we just never came together.”

After parting ways, Vitor Belfort made his return to combat sports in September as he boxed Evander Holyfield. It was an exhibition bout that was promoted by Triller Fight Club and Belfort won by first-round TKO. He is now linked to box Oscar De La Hoya on Thanksgiving weekend, who he was supposed to fight back in September before De La Hoya got COVID.

As for his MMA career, Belfort last competed back at UFC 224 in May of 2018 where he was knocked out by Lyoto Machida. The Brazilian is the former UFC light heavyweight champion and competed for UFC middleweight gold as well.
