LAS VEGAS — Winning streaks die hard in the UFC. Just ask Chris Leben, who thought he was about to join the middleweight title picture with a fourth straight win on Saturday night, only to find himself splayed across the canvas after Brian Stann was through with him.
While Stann was once a WEC champion, the knockout win over Leben was something of a star-making performance, a violent announcement of himself as a potential contender.
It’s a division that needs more talent, and beating Leben at UFC 125 will definitely open some eyes about Stann’s potential.
Afterward, Stann said he hoped the KO was the start of a big 2011, with the goal of breaking on to the list of elite middleweights during the calendar year.

Since he doesn’t really have a lot to do at the moment, given he quit politics, his suspension and the fact that he isn’t going to be on The Ultimate Fighter, it’s not surprising that Chael Sonnen spends a lot of time trolling people on Twitter.

"I want to make my next fight for here in Toronto, maybe in April. I started my rehab for my knee right now and I started to lift weights, but I don’t train martial arts right now. I’m gonna wait two weeks to see what’s gonna happen with my knee," Wand explains. "If it feels better I’m gonna fight on the first show in Toronto. [Chris Leben] is a really good opponent. His style’s like my style. He likes to fight. He’s no afraid to fight toe-to-toe, so he’s a good opponent. He’s going to fight right now in one of the next UFCs, but I want to fight against him."
As far as a possible fight with Sonnen goes, Silva thinks that unlike Anderson Silva, he’ll have the upper hand if the bout comes to fruition, citing a certain sparring session he had in Vegas with the testosterone deficient, smack talk abundant middleweight to support his opinion.
"Sonnen, he’s more of a wrestler. I think that’s a good fight for me, too," Silva says. "I trained with him one time at [Xtreme Couture] and I killed him there, you know? I think he’s a good opponent too. He’s tough.

It’s been a year full of headlines for UFC middleweight Chris Leben, both good and bad. After making UFC history by notching two victories in the span of two weeks this past summer, Leben seemed to be in the midst of a career renaissance, going 3-0 in the first half of 2010.
But in October Leben appeared to take a step backwards when he was arrested in Hawaii on suspicion of DUI. While he has a court date coming up in February of 2011, Leben said on Monday’s edition of The MMA Hour that he doesn’t expect to face any serious consequences as a result of the incident.
“George [W.] Bush got a DUI and he ended up being the president,” Leben told MMA Fighting’s Ariel Helwani. “I really feel as though nothing’s really going to happen with it, honestly. I don’t want to talk about it too much, and it’s still in the works. But I don’t think it’s going to be a big deal.”

Although calling the announcement "a monumental one" may have been a bit of an overstatement, the UFC announced today at a press conference in Rio de Janeiro today that it would be returning to Brazil for the first time since Zuffa bought the organization in 2000 and only the second time ever August 27, 2011.
UFC president Dana White made the announcement of the yet-to-be named event in Rio city hall alongside Zuffa CEO Lorenzo Fertitta, mayor Eduardo Paes and Brazilian UFC luminaries Royce Gracie, Anderson Silva, Mauricio "Shogun" Rua, Vitor Belfort and Jose Aldo.
Although he would not commit to naming names of Brazilian fighters who will likely appear on the card because the event is more than eight months away and injuries may change the planned card several times between now and then, White intimated that all of the currently contracted fighters at the presser and guys like Demian Maia, Junior Dos Santos and Wanderlei Silva are all being considered for the card.

Upon returning to his Las Vegas office on Monday morning after a hugely successful UFC 124 event, company president Dana White has several items that will require fairly immediate attention. Among the most pressing is selecting coaches for the upcoming season 13 of The Ultimate Fighter.
The series is scheduled to begin taping in just a few weeks, and White admits he’s late in picking the men who will lead two teams in competition and later battle it out themselves.
Though he says the decision is far from made, he shared with MMA Fighting some possibilities for the job.
