“Definitely ‘and the new,’ but she’s strong animal,” Jedrzejczyk said. “She’s so big. She’s huge, and she throws very hard punches, but I’m more experienced, I think, through these championship bouts so many times, so I’m a real fighter. My conditioning is always on point, and I will have to be very clever, very sneaky, as well, and I think this fight with Zhang will be similar to the fight with Jessica Andrade.”

Jedrzejczyk won her fight with Andrade via unanimous decision. It was her last bout before suffering the first defeat of her career to Rose Namajunas. As for Zhang, she comes off a first-round TKO win over Andrade to win the 115-pound title in front of her native Chinese crowd.

Now, she’ll make her first title defense against Jedrzejczyk, the most dominant champion the division has ever seen.

What do you think about Jedrzejczyk expecting her fight with Zhang to go similar to her matchup with Andrade?

Dana White: Weili Zhang Could Be One Of Biggest Stars In UFC History

UFC president Dana White has high hopes for his strawweight women’s champion, Weili Zhang.

Zhang will make her first 115-pound title defense against former division queen Joanna Jedrzejczyk at UFC 248 on March 7 in Las Vegas. It will be Zhang’s first fight as champion on U.S. soil, and the third time she has competed in the country overall. The 30-year-old comes off a first-round stoppage win over Jessica Andrade to capture the strawweight title.

She did so in front of her native Chinese crowd in Shenzhen. Recently, UFC president Dana White did an interview with ESPN to cover a wide range of topics. One of them being Zhang and her upcoming title defense. White believes Zhang can be one of the UFC’s biggest stars ever, especially coming off a talk show appearance in China which was seen by 1.3 billion people. (H/T BJPenn.com)

“Huge. And she continues to grow over there and become a star. She’ll fight and try to defend her belt here in Vegas, is what I want, so we’ll see how that plays out. When you have somebody who’s from another country and they’re on the rise, when you start fighting in Vegas, it makes a big impact on them at home,” White said.

“She just did this show in China where 1.3 billion people watched it. If she can continue to defend that belt, she’s going to be a massive star. Maybe one of the biggest stars ever in UFC history.”

Zhang will be provided with a truly difficult task in her first title defense against Jedrzejczyk. Jedrzejczyk has proven to be one of the most dominant strikers women’s MMA has ever seen, however, Zhang’s power and unpredictability have been key in her rise to the top of the strawweight mountain. If she can pick up a big win over Jedrzejczyk in March, there’s no telling how big her star could grow.

What do you think about White claiming Zhang can be one of the UFC’s biggest stars?

UFC women’s strawweight champion Weili Zhang has been preparing to face Joanna Jedrzejczyk for a very long time.

Zhang became the new champion following an impressive first-round TKO victory over Jessica Andrade at UFC Shenzhen back in August. Her first title defense will now come against the former strawweight queen at UFC 248 on March 7 in Las Vegas.

And the Chinese star is very ready for what is arguably her biggest task yet.

“I have known about Joanna for a very long time, even before I was in the UFC,” Zhang told SCMP. “I have been preparing for her, and for this fight, for a long time. I know how she moves and how she fights. I always knew that one day we would meet inside the Octagon. I am preparing everything. I am ready.”

Zhang is so prepared for Jedrzejczyk that she even claims she will be fighting in the Polish fighter’s own style.

“I have been training for speed and for power, working on my footwork,” Zhang added. “I am going to fight Joanna in Joanna’s way. No matter if it is wrestling or striking I am ready. Just like my fight in Shenzhen, I will be ready for different situations.”

There is no word as of yet whether the fight will headline UFC 248. However, it’s the only title fight on the card as of now.

Weili Zhang’s first title defense as UFC women’s strawweight champion is set, and she just so happens to be taking on the greatest champion the division has ever seen in Joanna Jedrzejczyk.

Zhang and Jedrzejczyk will collide on the UFC 248 pay-per-view (PPV) event from a venue and location yet to be determined on March 7, 2020. Zhang comes off a first-round TKO win over Jessica Andrade to win the strap earlier this year. As for Jedrzejczyk, she earned the title shot after downing Michelle Waterson at UFC Tampa.

Speaking to MMA Junkie, Jedrzejczyk offered her thoughts on the matchup against Zhang. Jedrzejczyk admits that Zhang is very powerful and dangerous, but vows to show the Chinese champion what real Polish power is all about.

“Every opponent is different, and she’s definitely very strong,” Jedrzejczyk said. “She’s young, very hungry, her punches are juicy, and I watch her fight two days ago with Mikey Brown because we – Mikey Brown is crazy about this fight. We’re going to have a good plan, but of course I will have to take this fight second by second. Like I said, she’s very dangerous, but I will show her this Polish power very soon.”

In reference to her “juicy punches” line, Jedrzejczyk says Zhang is a wild fighter and isn’t very technical. She looks forward to taking on a competitor with the strength that Zhang possesses.

“Juicy and crispy and, yeah, she’s wild. She’s wild. Definitely she’s wild,” Jedrzejczyk said. “She’s not that technical of a fighter, but she’s very strong. She’s big, she’s massive, so that’s why her punches are very juicy. I’m tall in the strawweight division, so I’m never going to be like bully person you know, like big person and very muscular.”

Who are you picking in Jedrzejczyk vs. Zhang?
