The idea of YouTube star Logan Paul fighting in the UFC has been circling MMA news for a few weeks.

Paul sold a reported 800,000 buys for his YouTube pay-per-view (PPV) bout against rapper KSI last month. The bout was a draw. It also got Paul some big-time coverage when UFC names like Sage ‘Northbutt’ started paying attention to him. Northcutt’s Team Alpha Male trainer Urijah Faber also weighed in on the situation.

Paul’s situation and possible UFC debut were compared to that of former WWE wrestler CM Punk. We know how that experiment ended up.

One man with much more say in the matter also weighed in, however. UFC President Dana White recently said his piece regarding Paul fighting in the UFC. In his eyes, credit goes to Paul for getting the PPV sales he did. Fighting in the UFC is another matter altogether:

“That guy would get murdered here,” White said. “He would get hurt badly. If I ever let him fight in the UFC, I should be arrested.

“No hate for the kid. He’s built a great business for himself, great for him, it’s awesome. But trust me, don’t play around here. You will get hurt.”

The YouTube star caught wind of White’s words soon thereafter. Paul reacted on social media by claiming White wasn’t really in it for the safety of the fighters when Punk’s name came up again:

White has drawn a vast amount of critics for his ruthless style that seemingly pays no mind to fighters’ well-being. The polarizing executive has been raked over the coals over and over again for supposedly always booking the fight that makes the most money rather than the most sense.

CM Punk Redone?

Paul was a high school wrestler and has some semblance of boxing experience. That’s hardly the resume of a UFC-level fighter, however. Maybe the UFC has learned their lesson after Punk put on two grossly uninspiring performances in the octagon.

White praised Punk’s dedication and guile to put his reputation on the line via MMAJunkie:

“Everybody always talks about CM Punk. CM Punk is one of the greatest guys you could ever meet,” White said. “He’s a super good guy, he’s very passionate about the sport, and he put his reputation and everything on the line to come fight here, and I respect him for it. Obviously it didn’t work out for him, but he’s got a lot of heart and a lot of balls to do that.”

That could seem somewhat contradictory based on what White said about Paul’s chances in the UFC. Perhaps he’s just done with these kinds of freak shows for now. For White to pass on an easy opportunity to make big money, he’d have to be.

Either way, it seems Paul won’t be making his octagon debut anytime soon.

When Google first launched its Chromecast product, I was eager to learn more about its capabilities. I currently enjoy my Roku, but heard rumors that Chromecast would be able to project anything Android onto TV screens. Better yet, the device was small and inexpensive. I wanted to see more.

I turned to YouTube in hopes that a Chromecast owner would post a demonstration video. I found plenty of unboxing videos, but most did not include a product demonstration. In fact, most didn’t even bother connecting the device to a TV. I wanted more, and I’m sure many other tech enthusiasts feel the same way.

I understand the allure of seeing technology products unveiled outside the corporate stage. Unboxing video fans like to see new gadgets released in natural habitats. But it’s time unboxing videos evolve beyond taking items out of boxes and into more meaningful experiences for viewers and video producers.

So, here are five tips for making better unboxing videos.

1. Research before unboxing.

Your unboxing video will go smoother if you have a good idea of what features, quirks or performance promises to test before you record. Print a list of features you want to highlight and post it next to the camera. Work the list as you demo the item, but remain open to spontaneity.

2. Get it out of the box quickly.

An unboxing video shouldn’t be about the box. It’s about the product inside. You risk losing the viewer’s interest if you take too long getting the items unwrapped. Keep commentary brief and don’t let it slow down the action.

3. Hook it up.

OK, it’s out of the box. Don’t stop there. Hook it up, turn it on, activate it, install it or do whatever it takes to get it working. How easy or difficult it is to install a product is valuable information. Your viewers will want to see if you have a hard time getting the item up and running.

4. Demo the product.

Now that you’ve hooked it up, let’s see how easy it is to use. Quickly showcase its features and some potential issues you notice as you demo. The list of features you posted next to your camera will come in handy. Narrate what you’re doing and your impressions as you go so viewers can easily follow the action.

5. End with a question.

Don’t just end with “That’s all, folks!” The web is social, so make the video a conversation starter. Throw in a relevant question or two at the end. Ask your viewers if they have questions about the product that you didn’t cover in your video. Perhaps some viewers also have the product but have different impressions or experiences. Ask for them. Questions give you opportunities to engage with your audience and their comments could lead to a second video.

YouTuber Lewis Hilsenteger of the Unbox Therapy channel created an unboxing video for the Chromecast that follows most of these suggestions. He did an excellent job with the video and it has generated 167.5k views and over a thousand comments. Although it doesn’t pose any questions at the end, it serves as a good example of a well-done unboxing video. Enjoy!

Your Turn

[VIDEO] The Footage of Uriah Hall Getting his Ass Kicked by Ronda Rousey on the Ultimate Fighter Set

That’s not an exercise ball, it’s a grappling dummy that used to have arms.

When Uriah Hall humbly admitted that Ronda Rousey “totally kicked his ass” on the Ultimate Fighter set, we initially assumed that footage of the two fighters rolling wouldn’t surface. Sure, “shocking videos NO ONE WANTS YOU TO SEE!” are as common on the Internet as cat memes, but the UFC can be pretty good about keeping secrets. Oh well, chalk it up as an interesting story and move on with our days, right?

Not quite. The training session between Uriah Hall and Ronda Rousey is now readily available on YouTube, and only four days after Hall’s interview with The New York Post was published. That video, courtesy of The Ultimate Fighter’s YouTube channel, is available after the jump.

Despite being little more than a slightly-resistant grappling dummy for Ronda Rousey, Uriah Hall doesn’t become frustrated and keeps his composure throughout the training session (or in Rousey’s words, doesn’t have “testosterone poisoning”). Hall repeatedly jokes about his performance, claiming at the end of the video that his session was a set-up.

Of course, Uriah Hall more than redeemed himself on last night’s episode of The Ultimate Fighter by publicly executing Bubba McDaniel.

LOLz of the Day: Pat Barry Teaches Us How to Properly Deal With Racism

I grew up in a town that was and still is 99% Caucasian. For whatever reason, I used to tan incredibly easy when I was growing up, to the point that if I held the refrigerator door open for too long, my face would look like Enrique Iglesias’ ass. And because I was apparently one of the only people in town whose skin possessed melanin, I was often the butt of jokes involving milkmen sleeping with my mother, my ability to jump more than four inches off the ground, and so on and so forth. I’m not looking for sympathy, but suffice it to say, I’ve had to deal with more misguided racism in my day than the average white guy and often had no clue how to deal with it.

Which brings us to Pat Barry, who some of you might not know is half black. If that revelation shatters your entire perception of Barry as a human being, then you are likely the garbage-ass hooley hoo floor turd known as “Jake,” who recently sent the above message to Barry on Youtube. What starts off as a simple statement of newfound understanding quickly takes a left turn to Deliveranceville, ‘Murica when this “Jake” starts dropping racial slurs like they were his cousins underpants at the family kegger-orgy, all the while assessing Barry’s skills as a fighter in an effort to, I don’t know, maintain his credibility as an MMA fan? As if to say, “You BETTER BELIEVE that if I didn’t have all of this hate in my heart, I’d be hosting MMA Live.”

In either case, Barry actually chose to respond to the troll and more or less laid out a gameplan for how to deal with racism that combines equal parts CAPS LOCK HAL and Richard Pryor to hilarious effect.

A photo of his response is after the jump.

Did anyone else picture Barry standing in front of Jake’s gene-deficient family while reading this off a note card?

“Cletus, you’re a needle-dicked diabetic and you crush your wife during sex. BOOM! Roasted.”

“Pearl, you smell like rancid mayonnaise and treat abortions like they were haircuts. BOOM! Roasted.”

And is it just me, or did the whole Barry/Jake exchange sound incredibly familiar? It’s almost as if I’ve heard it…somewhere…before…

Oh yeah, now it’s all coming back to me. No wonder why I only sleep with Asian women; it’s because I just care so damn much about the environment and stuff. CURSE THESE CONVICTIONS OF MINE!!
