When last we left the Fighter vs. Writer series, I came to what I choose to think of as a very respectable draw against Jason “Mayhem” Miller. You could point out that if I hadn’t felt the need to be contrary and pick Martin Kampmann over Jake Shields, I would have won. To that I’d say, ‘You’re right, you jerk. I guess you just know everything, don’t you?’

But rather than dwell on hypothetical conversations that exist only in my head, we move forward to UFC 122 and a fight-picking showdown with former “Ultimate Fighter” contestant and recent Sportscenter highlight-maker Gerald Harris, who took some time out from training for his fight at UFC 123 next weekend to match wits with me.

Unlike Gerald, I haven’t slammed my way on to ESPN (yet), but I feel pretty good about my prognosticating powers this week. That is why I now turn awkwardly toward the “Hurricane” and utter the four most important words in the English language: You wanna do it?

UFC President Dana White and main event fighters Nate Marquardt and Yushin Okami will meet the press in Germany on Thursday for the UFC 122 pre-fight press conference, and we’ll steam the video live right here at MMAFighting.com.

The UFC has run into some difficulties with the German media, many of whom have decried MMA as a bloody and brutal sport that has no place in polite society. So suffice to say, there may be some interesting questions for White and Co.

The press conference takes place at 7 AM ET on Thursday and the video is below.

These are strange times in the UFC middleweight division. If you don’t believe it, just ask Nate Marquardt.

Back in February he was one win away from getting another crack at the 185-pound title. A little over nine months later he’s still one win away, thanks in part to a positive drug test from the last man to beat him, but also thanks to a bizarre mid-fight mental lapse from his most recent opponent.

Now he heads off to what will be, one way or another, a career-defining bout at UFC 122 in Germany – a country where you can buy a ticket to a UFC event, but can’t find it on TV.

See what I mean? Strange times. Only for Marquardt, the weirdness has started to turn in his favor. Rather than ask questions about why or how, he’s opted to go with the flow and worry about the only thing he can control: beating Yushin Okami.

If you’re one of the many UFC fans who’s been clamoring for a fight between welterweight champion Georges St. Pierre and middleweight champion Anderson Silva, you can blame Nate Marquardt‘s friendship with St. Pierre for the fact that it hasn’t happened yet, and likely won’t happen any time soon.

In a live chat with MMAFighting.com readers, Marquardt said that he believes GSP — a longtime teammate and training partner — is avoiding moving up to middleweight to challenge Silva in large part because GSP wants Marquardt to get another chance at the middleweight title.
