It looks as if Anderson Silva and Kelvin Gastelum will end up fighting after all.

According to FloCombat’s Damon Martin, the UFC is targeting a middleweight bout between Silva and Gastelum to headline UFC Fight Night: Shanghai on Nov. 25, 2017 in Shanghai, China.

The duo was originally scheduled to square off last June at UFC 212 in Brazil, but Gastelum was forced to withdraw from the bout after testing positive for Marijuana metabolites.

Silva has been out of action since scoring a closely fought decision victory over Derek Brunson last February at UFC 208 in Brooklyn, New York. Prior to that, he had lost four of his previous five bouts, including losses to Chris Weidman, Michael Bisping and Daniel Cormier. The fifth fight in that stretch came against Nick Diaz, and while Silva technically won the bout, it was changed to a no-contest after both men failed drug tests.

Gastelum, on the other hand, is coming off of a submission loss to Weidman last month on Long Island. Prior to that, he had scored back-to-back stoppage victories over Tim Kennedy and Vitor Belfort, although the win over Belfort was changed to a no-contest due to Gastelum’s failed drug test.

We are just weeks away from the biggest combat sporting event in history, as undefeated 49-0 boxing legend Floyd Mayweather puts his spotless record on the line against UFC lightweight champion Conor McGregor.

The pair are set to lock horns in the main event of Showtime boxing pay-per-view (PPV) from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada on August 26th. Earlier today (Thurs. August 10, 2017) Mayweather held his media workout and spoke about the fight shortly before getting into the squared circle. “Money” discussed his adversary’s training preparations and claimed to have the inside scoop on everything the Irishman was doing.

Mayweather said that, to his knowledge, McGregor is currently sitting at around 160 pounds. The former WBA Welterweight champ also claimed to know a bit about “The Notorious One’s” game-plan, which includes switching his stance from southpaw to orthodox throughout the night:

“Um, it’s like doing your homework. It’s not really watching fight tapes, it’s knowing the person you’re facing, that’s across the ring from you,” Mayweather said. “You wanna know what that person likes to eat, what that person is doing when they’re not in training camp. If they’re drinking, how much they’re drinking, who they’re hanging out with – those are the things you really want to know. That’s called really doing your due diligence and your homework on the opponent. Not just watching films or fight tapes.

“Even like right know, I know how much Conor McGregor is down to – his weight. He’s down I think he was a little bit heavy so he’s at 160 now. So he’s down. I know what’s going on. I don’t have to worry about speaking to Paulie (Malignaggi). Paulie is – one thing about Paulie, I comment Paulie for going to camp and trying to help Conor, of course, trying to help him step his game up to the next level. That’s what it’s about. Giving him that extra boost. And I’m glad that Paulie went to camp to help McGregor.”

“A fighter is a fighter, it doesn’t matter. With McGregor he looks to come out – he’s gonna come out and he’s gonna keep switching, he’s gonna keep switching – I already know what he’s gonna do, I already said before I already know what you’re gonna do. You’re gonna come out, come out southpaw, then switch the other way, keep switching, but when you keep switching all you doing is burning energy. So let me give him some knowledge so that he can see. As you keep switching, keep switching you’re burning too much energy.”

Anderson Silva and Kelvin Gastelum will finally throw down at UFC Shanghai in November

A previously booked fight from UFC Rio has traveled across the world to Shanghai for the UFC’s first event in China.

The Spider and the UFC have apparently made up.

The last we heard from Anderson Silva, the former GOAT was not happy with the UFC or UFC president Dana White after they were unable to secure him a worthy opponent for a card in Rio. But whatever is going on with their relationship, Silva will return to action for the UFC’s first card in Shanghai, China. His opponent? Kelvin Gastelum, who was originally set to fight Silva in Rio before a drug failure for marijuana scuttled the bout.

The UFC’s Shanghai card will take place on November 25th and marks the first card to take place in China. A previous card in the ‘Las Vegas of Asia’ Macau is technically part of an autonomous region to the west of Hong Kong.

Anderson Silva has had a hard couple of years since losing his first fight in 17 matches to Chris Weidman in 2013. Including that fight, he’s gone 4-1-1, with a win against Nick Diaz overturned to a No Contest after “The Spider” tested positive for drostanolone and androsterone. His record could be even worse, but a gift decision against Derek Brunson in his most recent fight at UFC 208 has him back in the win column.

Kelvin Gastelum is looking to bounce back from a submission loss to Chris Weidman from July. Before that he went on a three fight win with victories over Johny Hendricks, Tim Kennedy, and Vitor Belfort. That last one was overturned to a No Contest due to that aforementioned marijuana drug failure, but we doubt that helped him knock Belfort out so we’re still considering it a win.

No other fights have been announced for the Shanghai card at this time. For more information on upcoming UFC cards, click here.
